I always thought it was pretty cool that when he made his 'comeback' in the mid 90's, he actually stepped onstage at 325 lbs. I believe the heaviest he competed at during his 'prime' (1970's?) was closer to 275 or so. Better training methods? Better 'assistance'? Just an effect of age?... probably a combo of a lot of factors.

When people speculate what would Arnold or any of the golden agers would look like if they competed in the modern era, look no further than Lou. What do you think was the reason for his weight increase? How much different do you think his training methods were? Lou simply caught up to the modern day drugs being used and you have the results that you saw. Imagine if he had those at his disposal his entire career and had never taken a break. It isn't inconceivable he'd have competed at close to 350lbs.

That's a great video, thanks for posting it. I've always been a fan of his, especially when I was younger and watched the Hulk on TV.
I also remember him on Battle of the Network Stars. He was the reason I'd watch it.

Big Lou was my bodybuilding inspiration my whole life. More than how amazing it was to actually become his friend is the fact that I ended my career at MD with an interview with Lou, and i began my new career on Heavy Muscle with Dave and I interviewing Lou. He is a true friend and I was honored that he was our first guest.

Louie is awsome, but i just don't get the whole charging for everything mentality. Oh well, I think he had more potential than arnold, I don't know why he didn't compete again.

I wish someone had a pic of him in the 76 O vs his comeback when he was 300+. That was an amazing transformation considering it was the same genetics and he was 40ish (I think). If someone has that post it up in my other thread!

What an inspiration he is to all bodybuilders all over the world. In my opinion there will never be another like Lou. He fueled my passion for this sport from watching him as the Hulk. He is one of a kind and is the pure definition of awesome.

He competed from 92-94 in his comeback, the last time at 43. Even though he never realized his dream of being Mr. Olympia, Carla wanted him to drop weight and accept that he was LOU FERRIGNO, and the Olympia title was unimportant. His acting career was/is more important.

Definitely a great BB that IMO never got the attention he deserved, He should definitely be a regular on Heavy Muscle Radio.....

The '75 Olympia was Lou's last show until the '92 Olympia. You have the best before and after pics here. Notice, by the way, that Lou's waist is thicker in the '94 picture.

His waist is thicker,.. but so are his pecs, calves.... there really are some pretty evident differences, whether the effects of age, muscle maturity,... gear.... Amazing that he was able to hit that sort of shape at the age he was at that last Mr. O
