Competitors will compete in a two-piece suit. The bottom of the suit must be v-shaped. No thongs are permitted. Competitors can compete in an off the rack suit. All swimsuits must be in good taste.

It's in the rules, so who knows... I did see that and wonder about it myself though.

they check the suits at the weigh-in. and no thongs have been allowed in npc for years - as far back as i can remember and i started following this pseudo-sport back in the 90s. rio or straight thong, nice butt or not - they are not suppose to be allowed. so now does that mean figure, fitness and bbing can wear them?

Not the point though... let's see if they stand by the small set of criteria/rules they do have for bikini. My money is she still wins her class and possibly a pro card despite breaking this rule. Minus the thong I personally think she deserves the win, she is a 10 plus at this show for sure!... we will see though.

Gotta say when I was looking for the thong she was the last competitor I looked for because with her experience with competing and who she works with in the industry, I just assumed that they def know the rules, and this is a common one, but maybe it's the "rio thong" they thought they could get away with it.

one funny thing is that when a guy pulls in his pants like a string, to show a ripped ass he gets a remark by the judges. but when a girl does it it becomes a "sex" issue at once. both in the eyes of the judges and by the crowd.

If girls competed in grandma panties then there would never be a distraction or a discussion like this :D

this is precisely the reason why thongs were banned for many years in american beaches and i say should continue to be banned for contests. unfortunately, we have not reached the level of maturity around sex and almost naked bodies like other nations - brazil, in europe etc where thongs are pretty common in contests.

She's not a vibe killer :p she's making a good point pertinent to the thread... you guys can't even focus with the thongs lol... probably a big reason why they were taken out of competing... that or the judges were drooling on the score sheets ;)

But seriously allowing thongs is not helping the argument that bikini is all just T & A... and if they really don't care about that, and do want to allow them then they should take it out of the rules because saying they're not allowed and then allowing girls to wear them gives them an unfair advantage as we can see it draws A LOT of attention.

I will say I don't know if they still do but the WNBF at MS Exercise (which is their World's competition for figure) did allow thongs a few years back and out of 30 plus competitors ONLY ONE chose to wear one. They may be more prevalent in bikini but I honestly don't see them becoming popular in figure or fitness.

i agree with you on the saying thongs arent allowed and then allowing them is messed up. however that is actually rooted in a much deeper and bigger problem in the ifbb and npc. the rules almost mean nothing, you got guys modifing poses during madatories, extremely inconsistent judging of figure and just so many other SUBJECTIVE factors.

Judge 1: hey what is that girl doing up there in a thong? that's against the rules!

Judge 2: yeah i know it is but DAMN ma got a backend on her!

"O.K. Here's the scoop. After prejudging I had at least 15 or so other Bikini competitors & trainers approach me about Marzia's suit bottom. I spoke to both Sandy Williamson & my father about it. A suit bottom like that is not allowed. The problem was that as many of you noted, Marzia pushed the limits & hiked the suit up. At the Saturday finals competitors meeting, Sandy emphatically stated that all suits in all the women's divisions, especially Bikini, are not to be hiked up in the back on their butt's. If you compare photos of Marzia from prejuding & finals from the back, you'll see the difference. The cut of the bottom does fall into line with what the rules state when you see the finals photos of her. How many times have I seen Ronnie Coleman, Dexter Jackson, Kai Greene & even Jay Cutler do the same thing on the Mr. Olympia & Arnold Classic stages? Way too many! Sorry, their rears are not what I want to look at! http://siouxcountry.com/images/smilies/puke.gif Of course, once they came off stage, they were told by the judges not to do it. I have a feeling that at all NPC National contests from here on out that the expediting crew will be taking a closer look as the competitors are lined up to go on stage or as they are about to take the stage. That being said, as Sandy & I were leaving the finals on Saturday night Sandy did approach Marzia & told her not to change her suit in the future & that she should wear that suit until it falls off of her when she starts entereing IFBB Pro Bikini contests in 2010. I suspect we'll be seeing more Ed Hardy bikini's on stage soon.
