The real reason some people gain weight easier and some lose it easier has to do with a concept called “nutrient partitioning.”

Therefore, people who smoke, crave less sweets and curb their appetites.

So when people stop smoking, they go back to the weight they would have been if they were non-smokers. This is one of the barriers to people stopping smoking.

So, one must weigh any small benefits from nicotine to the many problems of smoking cigarettes or cigars (or for that matter nicotine patches). The best thing is not to start smoking at all.
