Hi everyone, I am Swingslammer on here but in "Real life" I am Cal and I have been clean and sober over 26 years now. I spent 31 days in a rehab center over Christmas and New Years in the mid 80s and NEVER looked back. (snip)

Take this for what you want but I will say my drive to go to rehab was a 3 week old baby, my daughter is 26 now and has never known her Dad with an unstable mind. LIFE IS GOOD!

More of swingslammer's inspiring story @ http://forums.rxmuscle.com/showthread.php?119476-Recent-upheavals-here-and-addiction

Well Done. I need to get me some of whatever you got.

8 weeks ago, when I took my avatar photo, 7% bf, felt strong, healthy and full, 4 weeks out from a show, couldn't wait.

Bang, Pec tear and bicep injury, couldnt compete, relationship broken down and family problems all in a short space of time. Could really do with having a night off booze myself. I can totally see how people get addicted to stuff when the shit hits the fan.

Impressed by your willpower more than ever swingslammer. keep it up

This is CRAY's avatar. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-gceST5UGj20/UdMW9zOHipI/AAAAAAAADkc/0-79JiKhVi0/s100/CRAY.jpg Looking diesel!

Hope surgery is an option for you, CRAY.

Perhaps some motivation for recovering from a pec tear...

Created this thread hoping that perhaps others would share how they've dealt with a devastating injury.

Thankyou for the Kind words Curt

I guess training is a kind of addiction itself. I don't think I have had a significant period off since I started when I was about 14 (around 10 years ago) so when you can't do the thing you love its very tempting to replace it with other, less healthy habits.

I am lucky that I have a metabolism hotter than the fires of mount doom so haven't gained too much weight after 8 weeks of inactivity. But unlucky (in a sense!) that its only a partial tear so they wont consider me for Surgery :( unless I pony up the dough and go private . I just have to wait it out and it will should heal to 95% of its former strength, or so they tell me.

I don't know how many people on RX are from the UK, but the NHS we have, nice that its free for us. But what a load of bollocks when it comes to sports injuries. Totally clueless.

One positive I have definitely learned from the experience is not to take your health for granted. The warning signs were there before it happened, but being 24, I thought I was invincible, ignored them and paid the price.

What do you do to prevent injuries? I don't want to hear "don't lift heavy" because that would admit defeat. Besides we are supposed to push ourselves to do better. Feel free to share your injury prevention measures.
