A friend of mine needed 120s. His gym only had DBs up to 100 pounds. Easy enough solution....

Couple more times of him banging the weights together should start making the duct tape fray. That will teach him the lesson that he needs to workout at a real gym. lol

We have 125's at my gym, there is a guy who uses knee wraps to strap on 10lb plates to the ends. I thought he was the only one. Crazy bastards.

LOL. Fear the weight with the pink tape!

WOW. I had a gym I used to frequent (weeks) that only went up to 100's. They said they didn't put out more than 100lb DB's because "no one should use any more than that. Our members aren't criminals." I was like "give me back my deposit... I'm out!"

lol...me and my boys had this same conversation this morning....funny thing we have been asking the owner to bring in some heavier dbells for months now...so what we did was placed one the 100lbs dbells in his parking place standing up and the other on his desk( dont worry we have a good relationship) ..talk about getting his attention!!!

that doesn't look very safe... if you need more weight use barbells!!

I wish it were that easy. to upgrade to another gym I would have to travel too far.

I have to second that...It seems all gyms arent carrying more than 100's nowadays...Insurance reasons??? Or maybe they are trying to cater to a diffierent clientele, most gyms are getting commercialized

Does the gym staff not get worried when they see that w/ the duct tape? That's a potential liability situation for them.

I actually have a 2nd gym membership at a more "hardcore" gym that has DBs up to 150. The stinker is that that 2nd gym has zero ambiance and not really anyone who I could trust as a spotter, so I only use it for "special occassions", e.g. 120 lb db rows....

Mine go to 80.

Only steroid freaks use more than that.

Sassy, 120 db rows? :s

that is a good idea. b4 i opened my gym, the place i worked only had 100. we used use a chain and let plates hang from them. it was a bitch to balance. this looks so much more comfortable. i could saved thrashing my arms on the chains for all those years!!

120's at mine. Id like heavier ones for SA DB rows, but whatever. One of the stronger PL's taped two 25s to one and frenchpressed it. That was pretty cool to watch.

160 at my gym - I can only use them for DB rows on a good day. However, there are a couple of guys at the gym shoulder pressing them, but that's wayyy too heavy for me.

I just got a set of olympic type dumbbell handles off E-Bay. They live in my gym bag and I have any weight DB I want.

they bought heavier ones when the owner saw me adding 1 or 2 extra 45lb plates to the machine stacks.

You learn something new everyday, huh?

My gym has 180's, not that I'll ever need them.

my old gym from when i first started liftin only went to 75. but we had an old school plate loading lat pulldown station as well as plate loading leg extension and leg curl that used the old weights with the small hole in the center so we went to dunhams and bought empty dumbell handles and collars and made our own using the old school plates... maybe not as genius as duct tape but it worked well lol!

My gym's weights goest that high as well. But there is always enough people that can be spotters. Alot of people who compete workout at my gym. Even Michael Libertore works out there

The 24 Hour Fitness in Lewisville, Texas, goes all the way up to 200 on the dumbbells. I've never seen anyone use them to this day. Maybe Ronnie, will come by.

My gym goes up to 160's. If my gym only went up to 100's, I would focus more on barbell movements.
