So had my 1st knee scope of my life. My doc says if I don't stop heavy lifting I'll have to have my knee replaced in 10 years. I'm 45 years old and never be Mr
O but love to train. Being 6' foot my legs are already a weak point. Just wondering if y'all think I can keep what I have with lighter training and maybe even less.

Hey man, shtty news, sorry. I'm also 6' with weaker legs... and I tore my ACL a few years ago. Thankfully I recovered fully and have no issues now.

I'd think if you gave up heavy squats and deads you may give up some overall size, but you gotta make changes man... don't wanna knee replacement! Is your main goal hypertrophy rather than strength? If so you can play around with high volume/high frequency training, and focus on more focused time under tension with very strict, controlled reps (less load) which will still deliver huge stress to the muscles with less loading on the joint.

Can also play with pre-exhaust techniques to facilitate adaptation, inroad, with lighter loads. I think you can keep size if you have an open mind and think outside the box. Load is the main variable for hypertrophy but not the only one!

Of course you'll still hit upper body hard and can focus on that as well.

Either way good luck! If it's helpful at all, here are some notes and a vid I made about my own rehab process after my knee surgery:

Hey man, sorry for bumping this ... just realized it's an older thread! :-(

Was searching for knee rehab and found it. My mistake! Still kinda new here. Any way to delete these posts after you make them btw?

Sorry to hear the news, I had the same kind of news about a year ago with my wrist (fused bones). IMO, at this stage you should focus on how you can be as prevenative as possible. I would recomend a compression sleeve for your knee for starters. Here are some other alternatives. Good luck and I hope you are able to pursue your passion!

I have had bad knees for years now mainly caused by lifting the weights. It's very strange that for a few days my left knee will be a problem, then that will be OK but my right knee will start playing up.

Sounds to me like inflammation that is occurring in the opposite leg you're favoring.

I would like to get compression sleeves or wraps, any recommendations? My right knee used to feel funny, not a pain type feeling just different from the left. Also when doing leg press heavy, one of my reps it felt like the knee cap moved and after that it felt strange as well, so I stopped doing legs until it felt normal again. I'm back to doing legs but I'm worried about going heavy.
