How long can it be expected for an abdominal muscle tear to heal. Is training advised during this time?

I have no idea, doc just told me I had torn a muscle!

Just to the right of the navel on the surface. It is most painful when you raise yourself partially up (like the beginning of a sit up) and pressure is applied directly to that spot ( i know because the doctor did it SEVERAL times on taking a second look on Monday...lol!)
