View Full Version : I did strongman training for the first time

Hi all, I'm new to this section of the forum so give me some slack, haha:D:D

This past saturday (the fourth), I got the opportunity to go to Waterbury Fitness with one of my friends who is a regular there and try strongman things with Derek Poundstone, my friend and a few other people.

I'm hooked is all I can say, It was fun, challenging and totally different from a bodybuilding aspect

First we tryed log presses, warmed up and got the hang of it with just the log which was 95 lbs, then proceeded to do a working set with 145, and then up to 185 for two sets

We moved onto Continental Presses with an olympic bar
I pretty much stayed with 135 till the last set, just so I could get the hang of it, then i went up to 185

and then the highlight of my WEEK

Atlas Stones!!!

170 for 4
240 for 4
240 for 3
270 for 4


There's deffinitely a possiblility for future competition

the only draw back was that the box's we were loading the stones onto weren't completely secured, so as i was rolling a stone off, the whole box came down and I felt like a jackass, especially in front of all the older guys and Derek, but shit happens i guess

270 for a triple is pretty damn good bro! Nice work.

Thanks T, I tried 300 but all the Tacky and tape on my arms kept slipping and I couldn't get it more than like 6 inches off the ground

Im trying for one night next week, I kno the rest of the guys train on saturday morning, but I have to work on saturdays, pisses me off

Haha!! That's why I haven't been there yet! I work Saturday from noon til 4!! BS!

yeah i work 10 - 4 and they go in at noon and are usually done by 4, Im thinkin bout just using vacay days for a couple saturdays just so I can train
