When I lift really heavy like going for PRs during deadlifts, squats or leg press, I pee a little. I make sure to pee before I lift and sometimes between sets. I'm not talking gusher. Just a little leaks out....like yesterday when I was going for 275 on deads. I am almost 45 yrs old so I figured it might be age related. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

I've never heard of that, nor have I ever experienced it personally, but I'd be interested to hear what people have to say. It doesnt sound uncommon though. No more uncommon then the men that fart when deadlifting or squatting. All that pressure.

After I turned 40 the gynocologist always asks me if I experience any incontinence when I sneeze, cough or laugh. I don't. But that's why I'm thinking it may be age related.

It could be- have you tried googling the problem? Or looking it up on WebMD? Typically I can find most of what I'm curious about health wise through those two methods...

Nah...I didn't even think about it because it only happens when I lift really heavy. So I came here first. If it was happening at other times I would have gone to webmd or something.

I think it is having babies related.

You haven't experienced it before this as you haven't lifted heavy ass weights.

125 kg on deads is a fair crack innit luv.

GM every time you pee, try to stop the stream. When you can stop & start again easily, try to stop it for longer. Aim for up to 5 sec. That will tighten up your downtown muscles and keep this from getting worse as you age. (called a keagal but I forget how to spell.) (men should do this too)

That's the thing Swan. I've done kegels since I had my son 21 years ago. I have strong vag muscles. Ask Sledge. ;) So that's why I don't understand the pee thing. I'm serious...I'm gonna wear a pad or something. I want that 300 deadlift!

That could have something to do with it. I'm concentrating on lifting the weight, not squeezing my pee muscles! LOL

I'm 27 and this has happened to me when lifiting as well. I started wearing a thin panty liner on leg and DL day.

Do you have children? I have 1 kid...but just like you I'm no stranger to Kegals.... So I don't know what it may be.

also happens during pms week if i sneeze

so could be age or baby since i am 45 and have 18 yr old

Everytime you exhale into any exercise/ movement, squeeze down there, and also at the diaphram.

I've tried to concerate on the "squeeze" down there, but when I did that while squating...I felt like I wasn't activating my glutes properly.

Well, good. Not good that you gals pee...good I asked. I'll just wear a pad on those days. I'll be damned if I'm messing up my lifts because I'm trying squeeze pee muscles!

That's how I have always done my kegal exercises. I play games when I pee....;) I figured that if I can't stop the pee flow then its not good so I always aim to hold for longer. I also think that you can strengthen your vaginal muscles during sex. Contract, tighten and hold during intercourse.

I used to think that I would insert those balls into my vagina while I was doing cardio to give them a workout too. But then I was scared that I would have orgasms on the threadmill in front of everyone. Sledge I think you should get some of those vaginal balls for your clients. Not sure but you might want to get some anal ones too. Some women might want to strengthen their ass muscles. :D

Ben Wha balls are one i'f my training tools. I have a rack of them in increasing weights. Then my clients move on to kettle bells. I can give away all my secret training meathods though.

Sledge sent me benwa balls once. My vag is tight enough that I couldn't feel them moving around. They stay right where I place them.

Wow...that first video makes sense. Ok...I don't like his delivery but it makes sense. When he makes the point about pushing your belly button out and the abdominal floor relaxing, I tried it and he's right.

But here's the problem for me personally...I'm not gonna attempt PRs (right now 275 is my highest) on a deadlift with two herniated disks in my back without a weightbelt.

So maybe I need to get the PR thing out of my head. Maybe I should just stick with a lighter working weight and more reps. Afterall, I am a bodybuilder not a powerlifter.

Yep I agree, a small amount of urine vs a life time of pain and disability. I say wear the belt when you go heavy. It's too easy to let form slip. Their is a reason all the powerlifters and weight lifters and strongmen wear a belt.

Doctor said it could possibly be a prolapsed bladder, couple of stitches sorts it out

Wow, yall are crazy....lol. Nah not really, but actually, as far as the pee muscles go, my guess is this...as I love body anatomy, I would like to hypothesize:

Yes, while aging can weaken your muscles, obviously, because of your keagal exercises, your vaginal muscles are quite strong. However, when doing deadlifts, the main muscles used are lower back, glutes, and abs (for surrounding stability) as I am sure you know. The weight is so heavy that the contraction puts pressure on the bladder, which, in turn makes it release a tiny bit of urine, which will usually come out because it is such a small quantity. Quantity being as small as it is may not trigger the vaginal muscles to contract, ergo, you leak.

Just to let you know, I am 23, have a fabulous sex life wit my husband, and because he loves keagals during intercourse, I do it every single night with him, and usually I don't keep track of reps, but it is a LOT. I have very very strong muscles, and I myself have had it happen on occasion. Normally it never happens, but it will maybe a couple times a year.

i have seen some female power lifters (especially olympic ones) have a problem with peeing while they lift such heavy weights... it's cause you're pushing so hard, i think. it's not uncommon.. just wear a pad and you'll be good. :)

i also thought, since some folks were talking about vaginal exercises... this is a weight lifting place.. i thought y'all might be interested in seeing the woman with the world's strongest vagina! lol

Kegels can make your problem worse if they're not properly done.. and it's hard to tell if you make any progress by doing them, because you have nothing in there, hence a lot of women saying "I have kegeled my brains out and it didn't make a huge difference."
