I'm just wondering how many ppl wear them. I didn't start till I started training at Coffee's and have found they make a huge difference in terms of stability, transfer of energy, and even helping with ROM.

wear them for pressing, legs and deadlifting. yes i said deadlifting!
recent article from elitefitness about that. author of the article said that with oly shoes on there was more quad involvement.

I wear them any workout day now it helps on legs and back day and it just helps flip that switch letting me know if they are on the feet: its time to cash the check on the investment!

Chuck Taylors all the way. I don't think it's worth the the extra money if you're not a competitive weightlifter. If you really wanna isolate the quads, why not just squat off of blocks?

I would love to try a pair.

They are not easily found in the UK, especially in smaller sizes.

thats what the heel is for.
but chucks are great all around lifting shoes. great especially for a wide stance squat.

True dat. I guess since I almost always use a wide stance low-bar squat, I have a natural bias towards Chucks.

The nike's got terrible reviews from the lifters I know who got free pairs. They said the shoe wasn't very stable and it felt springy.

The adidas are bad ass for sure.

I'm going to get the new Do-Win's when they come out in Aug this year.

the back could be a problem. there are enough strongmen with torn bis and bad knees...should see mark philippi. one year right one snaps and he goes under a car, 2 years later the left one goes while doing a conans wheel.

the real amazing guys are the lightweights. under 231...
we did 290 each hand with farmers at the europa, the heavies did 320
most lightweights were giving up 100lbs in bodyweight

funny you say that, before i could afford the wl shoes...i used an old pair of shoes that had a heel.

if you ever come across some vintage photos of weightlifting youll see they did the same

It's more about getting under the bar than pressing it. My clean and jerk is about 100lbs more than my strict military press. With the clean and jerk it's all about dropping down as quickly as possible and catching overhead.

The closest thing I've used is Safe squat shoes (powerlifting). I squat barefoot now.

Like what was said a "Jerk" isn't the same as a "Press". In fact in comps if one of the three judges see you press out the Jerk you get red carded and the lift is no good.

As you drive the bar off your chest with the dip drive using your legs, you lock your arms and squeeze up on the bar with your shoulders.

Still impressive to say the least and honestly more difficult technique wise than a push press if you ask me.

I did have a look a year ago through the UK power/strength lifting sites.

There was an Irish company, but they looked like hideous.

Other than that, to try some on, I would have to go to Luton.

I was surprised there weren't any shops in London.

Yeah I'd agree. For the longest time my push press was no better than my olympic jerk. It takes a while to get the form down..

O well, back to the subject. If I ever decided to compete in weightlifting, I might buy a pair of shoes.

Once you get the technique down you'll be able to Jerk ALOT more than you can push press. You don't need an impressive upper body to jerk alot but you do need an upper body to push press alot.

Not that much heel to em, but in the past I've gone to the bowling alley and bought old rental shoes for like $5. Stiff sole, bit of heel on it, all leather upper, stylish look ;)
You can't go wrong

Plenty of grip on the rubber floor. Especially if they've been scuffed up on the bottom. If you find a really slick pair just shuffel your feet in the parking lot a bit and good to go. Don't know if I'd do any lifts on a wooden platform with them though.
