I'm Matt Helton. I am retiring the Axioma thread after many years and many views. You guys can still refer to me as Ax lol.

This is my thread now. I will post as often as I can, answer any questions and keep it relative. I have been known to ramble and rant in the past.

What do I have to offer to the members of this forum? Hopefully a glimpse into the mindset and training of a 50 year old bodybuilder who's goal is to be the best in the nation and win a coveted IFBB pro card.

Why the latin title? Because NOTHING is of worth without LABOR. Hard work, pain, sacrifice, more pain and all of it a gamble that the judges will agree that my physique is the epitome of what can be achieved at my age.

I'll start with a status report:

The Injury Report

This is my current status.

These are based on MRI's, X-rays and consults.

Neck:
C2: Posterior ponticus.
How does this relate to lifting? Any ballistic rotation and flexion could kill me. Any of the 5 concussions, head on collisions, chiropractic adjustments could have killed me. This was sobering...took my wind for a day or two.

C3-T1: disc degeneration to the point of bone on bone with associated bone spurs protruding from foramen. Permanent loss of cervical curve. Impingement of nerves.
How does this affect my training? Constant nagging pain at best, excruciating pain at worst.

Shoulder:
Tears of labrum, sub-scapularis minor and biceps tendon resulting in compromised brachial plexus and nerve impingement.
How does this affect my training? Greatly limits my selection of movements and the volume of training. Nagging pain or loss of strength.

Elbow:
Peripheral neuropathy, degeneration of joint, arthritis and bone spurs.
How does this affect my training? Loss of strength (40%) in extensors and flexors. English? I can't hold on to a bar. Pain? Yes.

Wrist:
Torn ulnar tendon, carpal tunnel syndrome. Prognosis: Surgery
How does this affect my training? Loss of strength and mobility with numbness and pain.

Hand:
Stress fracture.

Leg:
Torn gastrocnemius and achilles tendon.
How does this affect training? LOL. I will consult surgeon on Thursday to see if it is worth reattaching muscle.

Sunday I began my MBR (Metabolic Burst Routine) which is workout and CKD. I actually got through the Chest/Back Giant sets pretty well, all things considered.
I'll do Leg Giant sets today.

I'm wondering if this forum is still alive? Or do I need to post pix for you? Not feeling the love for a guy who was one of the first on this forum...ran a thread for years...won overall State championship at 49?

Hey, I'm doing this for you...I know what I know, but many of you don't.

As far as pix? I'm sure there will be plenty on the net after I guest pose at State.

I decided to do this thread without regard to who reads or posts. Masters forum is pretty much defunct as far as new contributors and anything edgy or provocative. Esplendido...Baldy...Angelican...

Last post was negative in tone....I'll say....TREN lol!

I have not seen any of those members in the last year. It would be great to get them to come back and start posting again.

See what happens when you leave us?

I would like to get some interest again...it was fun.

I'm just going to post and let it fly. That's why I'm back. I have to filter what I put out on facebook and I don't have enough people to really devote time to a blog so this has always been the place that I could say wtf.

I'll be guest posing at SCNPC State Championships this weekend. I promised Tres Bennet (chairman and promoter) that I would show up in great shape to get my ring. I will be four weeks out from Masters...that said I will be in shape.

I'm super depleted right now...trying to get the majority of the fat loss done this week so that I can grow into Masters.

My physique at State: jacked up light heavy (198) channeling my inner Zane and Baldwin.

My physique at Masters: diced heavyweight (210) channeling my inner BEAST.

I'm in my second week of MBR (Metabolic Burst Routine) and really depleted.

Flavor of workouts:
Saturday: Glycogen Deplete workout. I decided to amp it up a little to really push the deplete:
Squats: 20 reps (225)
Single leg curls: 20 reps
Single leg extensions: 20 reps
Calf raises (painful due to tear): 20 reps
Incline Hammer Press: 15 reps
Reverse grip seated cable rows: 15 reps
Neutral grip shoulder presses: 15 reps
close grip pulldowns: 20 reps
Standing triceps extensions: 15 reps
straight bar curls: 15 reps
Back extensions: 20 reps
Rope crunch: 20 reps

Rinse...Repeat

Today was the Lower Body Tension training: 5/5 cadence, no pause

I'm feeling pretty good considering injuries and deplete.

Matt,
I saw your pics last year when you won SC state and you looked the best I've seen you look. I'm sure you'll do really well this year at Masters....Lots of respect especially considering all of your injuries you're dealing with.

I don't get on RX much at all anymore. I've had a few run-ins with a couple of guys (not on this thread) but really just not worth getting into debates with others about how I built my body vs what they are doing to theirs. Look forward to your continued uncensored posts my friend.
