LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The Los Angeles Lakers (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/teams/lakers) have retracted an offer to Lamar Odom (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/players/3327), saying that talks to re-sign the free agent have stalled.

Lakers public relations director John Black said the team had taken the offer off the table in the past two days.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Lakers owner Jerry Buss had offered Odom two deals. One was worth $36 million for four years and the other was for $10 million a season for three years.
Odom, who will turn 30 in November, made $14.1 million this past season.

Black said talks with Odom's agent Jeff Schwartz hin the Lakers' championship run. He averaged 12.3 points and 9.1 rebounds during the playoffs

This is a common issue with teams who win the title the previous year. I've never understood it. Teams need to understand that, if you win the title and a valueable player becomes a free agent the upcoming year, he is gonna ask for more money. It happens in all professions not just sports. If you work at a company and you're the best producer of whatever it is the company produces, when its evaluation time you expect the company to offer you a raise.
