The Wrestling Observer is also reporting that Beth Phoenix has not been seen on TV as of late because WWE is focusing more on "bikini" style Divas at the moment. It should be noted that Phoenix is not injured nor does she have any heat on her within WWE, but at this time she is not being considered for the title picture and has been kept off TV heading into Night of Champions. Ironically, the segment on Raw 2 weeks ago which saw the Divas of Raw in a bikini match lost 250,000 viewers coming off the previous segment.

remember when women's wrestling was interesting? back when you had some specifically for eye candy, some specifically for wrestling, and some who were great as valets/managers (which is truly a lost art now)...

well Vince, take a look at TNA...the women there are a huge draw...why? b/c they can fucking wrestle and the fans love that...

WWE DIVAS? total joke! there's a few that actually have skill and guess what, they're not being utilized...case in point made in the above quote courtesy of wrestlezone...hey, seeing some eye candy is fine and clearly is a winner...but when you lack skill you get boring and the fans can only be held captive by it for so long...wise up Vince...pay attention...it's not lack of women's wrestling the fans want...it's skilled women that they want...

best example: when the WWE went to England they had a match b/w Beth Phoenix and Melina...and one thing I've noticed is that they do recognize that fans over there appreciate skilled women in the ring...so these two go in there and have a good match...even one move made me applaud whomever thought to use Melina's own foot to kick herself in the back of the head...but the fans loved it...so whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy isn't that shit on every week??????

you know you can have it both ways by looking back approx 8ish years ago...look at the roster of women...Ivory, Chyna, Trish, Lita, Molly Holly, Jacqueline...and I know I'm overlooking some...then in comes Victoria and Jazz...and you think of what could have been had you been able to keep a few of them and add in Mickie and Beth and Melina and omg Nattie...there's a talent going to waste! but all these ladies have talent, can wrestle, and look awesome!!! there's a different look in there for everyone!

ok I am way wound up right now on this one so I'm going to step aside and let y'all give input...

and prime example of a wasted talent...she looks damn good in designer jeans, too! hahahaha...she had them on in charlotte since she didn't wrestle that night...made me want to go home and do squats that's for sure!

GD, She is probably the only one right now on the WWE roster that truly looks like a wrestler and has marketable appeal. I would like to see that booty in designer jeans.....hell, who am I kidding I'd like to see that booty in just about anything!!

and did anyone see RAW tonight? I almost had tears in my eyes when I saw some ACTUAL womens wrestling! the spot where Beth had Kelly Kelly and Gail Kim on her shoulder at once was freakin awesome...and Alicia Fox did something that made me go, omg, did they let someone with some skills sneak in there tonight?

and the crowd loved it!!!

and then I remembered it was airing from Canada, not the US, which means it'll be right back to crap next week...funny how they let them showcase their skills in other countries but we get fluff and crap week after week...

Tag team matches are much harder to work WELL than singles matches. TNA still have some decent tag team matches.

The current group of women in the locker room just don't have that star power.

hey look, TNA is paying attention...and you know what? their fans actually care b/c their women are allowed to fully showcase their talent....hmmm, gee, what a concept...

PWInsider.com is reporting that TNA has renewed interest in an all-knockouts TV show which would air separately from TNA Impact. Part of the new deal that TNA signed with SpikeTV recently allows them to shop TV show ideas around to other networks, which could hopefully land the knockout's show a spot somewhere else if SpikeTV is not interested. One of the main reasons why TNA created the Knockout's Tag Team division is to further create buzz over the women in the company in hopes of landing a TV deal.

~I love watching WWE (and playing it on my wii lol) but i am one of them viewers who turns off when it's the turn of the women to wrestle! NOT because i don't like to see 2 women going at it in the ring but because i can't watch what it has become TODAY!! I loved the skill of Lita with the Hardy Boys and Chyna being able to stand up against the men but to see this bitch slapping contest where the clothes get ripped off these girly girls is like soft porn for the lil boys who are WWE fans rather than a entertainment show for all WWE fans!! After all the 'good' fights to see that stuff just makes me cringe, it's just not what it was before!!!~

The Miami Herald has a lengthy new article discussing the position of women in wrestling today and judging by the title, “Women Can Wrestle, If Given Chance,” it’s a must read for all fans of this section of wrestling.
The article features comments from Afa the Wild Samoan who runs annual Elite 8 tournaments for women, as well as TNA’s Sarita. Check out some quotes from Sarita below:

“As a TNA Knockout, I can speak from my time there that the women are in a great place. We have all been given opportunities to prove ourselves in matches, interviews and backstage segments.
“When I first joined TNA, I was impressed by the diversity of the girls in terms of look and wrestling style, and I think this is something that helped make the Knockouts division stand out as one of the best women’s divisions in the world.
“Sometimes women’s wrestling is not taken seriously, which is unfortunate for those of us that have invested so much energy and effort into it. Image is so important to succeed in wrestling and has tended to have more importance than talent, skill and connection with the public.
“To really be lifted up, women’s wrestling needs to keep focusing on diversity to develop girls with true star power. Your typical `beautiful’ girl is not always the girl that will stand out or interest more people in women’s wrestling.”

Thoughts: It’s really exciting to see a mainstream outlet like the Miami Herald dedicate such a long article, especially such a positive one, to women’s wrestling. This is highly encouraging for us as fans who continue to want to see women’s wrestling be taken more seriously and for the women in the sport to break down more barriers. Even this site is trying to give these women that much more exposure & that much more encouragement to do what they do. I’m really happy to see a major outlet take notice of what’s going on in women’s wrestling and highlight it. That can only be good for the rest of us.

I highly encourage people to email the writer, Jim Varsallone ( [email protected] ) and the Miami Herald ( [email protected] -to the editor) in support of articles like this...this is the kind of positive press the women need :)

The old Chyna, before all the plastic surgery.

I liked her after the first round of surgery....jawline was softer....boobs were proportional....then she took it too far....and now....it's lil kim too far but it's getting there...

Yeah the WWE women pretty much suck! You can only watch women with crappy talent rip each others clothes off so many times before you stop caring! I miss the old school days when you could actually tell they didn't come straight from a modeling run-way and get a contract just because of their looks

Amen and amen, Gymdiva!!! I have to say that I've been fairly disgusted with WWE and the direction it's taken women's wrestling. The latest NXT show is a prime example. I mean seriously, what on Earth does a "contest" involving who can carry a midget in a wheelbarrow around
the ring have ANYTHING to do with wrestling?? Not all of it on WWE is bad, though: I'm really glad that Natalya (one of the ladies that can REALLY WRESTLE in WWE) is FINALLY getting some of the in-ring recognition she deserves. However, compare this to that STELLAR 6-woman streetfight they had over on TNA, and it's clear in my book which company is REALLY trying to forward women's wrestling and which one isn't. I say make it official, and merge Shimmer entirely with the TNA Knockout division. So many of the Knockouts come from there anyway, they might as well!!
