power curl?

WORD...what is a power curl?? I think I might have seen it on a video once, where the lifter grabbed a bar on a monolift in the bottom position of a curl and curled it and such. Is there actual power curl records out there or this some new thing?

There's at least two different federations that have Power Curl divisions. You can read all the rules of performance on their RawPowerlifting.com website. And yes, there's records and state/national/world champion titles to be won and such in that division.

Cool, thanks for the info. I guess powerlifters now have an excuse to do this so called "vanity lift' now lol. Pretty insane the kind of weight being curled in the records, I suppose theres some serious form requirements on a curl tho, u can cheat the crap outta that movement.

i like the idea of all raw just bar n chalk but the idea of drug free power lifting is about as good as the idea of drug free bodybuilding it sounds nice on paper but we all know the truth.

Strict Curl:

1. The lifter shall face the front of the platform. The bar shall be held horizontally across the thighs
with the hands palms of the hands facing outward and fingers gripping the bar. The feet shall be flat on
the platform with the knees locked and arms fully extended. The lift shall have their shoulders and
buttocks firmly against a wall during the lift.
2. After removing the bar from the racks, the lifter must move backwards to the wall to establish his
starting position. The lifter shall wait in the starting position for the Head Referee’s signal. The signal
will be given once the lifter is motionless and the bar is properly positioned with your Head Up & Chin
Up and arms extended fully down. The Head Referee’s signal shall consist of an upward movement of
the arm and the verbal command “Curl”.
3. Once the curl command is given the lifter must bring the bar up to the fully curled position (bar
near chin or throat with palms facing backward). The knees must remain locked and the shoulders and
buttocks against the wall throughout the entire lift.
4. When the lifter has reached the finished position the Head Referee’s signal shall consist of a
downward movement of the hand and the verbal command “Down”. The signal will not be given
until the bar is held motionless and the lifter is in the apparent finished position.
5. At the completion of the lift, the knees shall be locked and the shoulders and butt firm against the
wall and the lifters will need to wait the signal to replace the bar. This will consist of a backward
motion of the hand and the verbal command “Rack”.
6. The legs and hips may not be used in any way for momentum to complete the lift. Lifter may not
lean back to assist in bringing the weight up. Any thrusting of the legs or hips for momentum is not
allowed.
7. Any rising of the bar or any deliberate attempt to do so will count as an attempt.
8. The lifter may, at the Head Referee’s discretion, be given an additional attempt at the same weight
if failure in an attempt was due to an error by one or more of the loaders.
9. This lift will be judged by 3 referees.
10. The back part of the heal cannot be more than 12” from the wall. There should be a line (tape)
designated on the floor where the heals cannot cross over.

Causes for Disqualification of the Strict Curl:

1. Any downward movement of the bar before it reaches the final position.
2. Leaning back to assist the lifter in raising the weight.
3. Shoulders or Buttocks coming off the wall during the lift both while going up & down.
4. Failure to stand erect with the shoulders square and Buttocks flat against the wall at the completion
of the lift.
5. Failure to keep the knees locked and straight during the lift.
6. Stepping backward or any foot movement such as rocking the feet.
7. Lowering or racking the bar before receiving the Head Referee’s signal to do so.
8. Bouncing the bar off the thighs or bending the back to assist the lifter in starting the upward
motion.

I agree that lifters can clean up and "beat" a drug test. But knowing that 10% of the total competitors will be tested and that they'll start with the open class record breakers makes it more legit IMO.

I've been to contests that claim to be "drug free" and out of 40 some competitors, only 3 get tested and they pick some lady, a guy who got 4th place and a teenager who doesn't look like he could afford the juice even if he wanted to take it. Meanwhile, all the top lifters breeze through untested and some of them loudly proclaim on the internet "I did it drug free!"

Subject: 100% RAW Powerlifting Update

Dear Lifters,

World Championships
The Worlds are approaching very fast. As you all know this year we are having the Full Powerlifting Worlds in Las Vegas at the newly renovated Riviera Hotel & Casino on October 17-18th. We will also be holding the West Coast Single Lift Championships in conjunction with this event. We have some very special deals going on for the lifters who are interested in lifting in this event. The early bird special has just 2 more days left if you want to take advantage of this event. You will get a free cross-over and t-shirt which is a $55 savings. Make sure you have your entries post marked by August 1st in order to take advantage of this. The Riviera has given 100% RAW a terrific deal and the room rates are only $89/night. When you call please make sure to mention 100% RAW Powerlifting Federation in order to get this rate. There was some confusion about the block and number of days but this has been straighten out. If anyone tells you there is no block or you need to rent 3 nights in order to get this rate please ask for their name and then ask to speak to a supervisor. You can also call me with their name and I will take care of this. We need names in order to find out who is saying the wrong information. But I think we finally got things taken care of. Please make your room reservations as soon as possible so we can find out if we need more rooms and to ensure we get the best rooms. There are 4-5 towers and they want to keep 100% RAW all together in the same tower in the most recently renovated tower. We already have more than 50 lifter pre-registered so get in your entry forms soon so your not cut off and be left out of this event. To print off an entry form go to our website site and click on the logo on the home page. For the West Coast entry form go under schedule and click on the entry form from there. On the original entry form I post it had the Riviera hotel number as 800-634-3414, this went to the wrong department. This is the correct number here to reserve a room, 1-800-634-6753. It has been updated on the website and if you printed off the old entry form please use this new number.

The platform will be equipped this year by Nebula Equipment. These are the same guys who supplied equipment to MHP's Kings of the Bench & Clash of the Titans pro show in Dallas, which is ran by Sean Katterle or Hardcore Powerlifting.com and which takes place at The Ronnie Coleman Classic Expo. Sean will also be at our worlds in Las Vegas, running a booth island as both the owner of Hardcore Powerlifting and as an official distributor for House Of Pain Ironwear.

Yes we will have World Championship belts available for the Overall Lightweight, Heavyweight, Master and Female lifters.

The best deal we have is that this year we have signed a contract with a ring company to make World Championship rings for anyone who wins 1st place in their age group or division. These rings will be made by the same people who make the World Championship Super Bowl rings which will be there for viewing. There will be a few different designs for you to choose from. They will also have pendants for the wives to match the ring as well as watches and participant rings for guys who do not win 1st place. This company will be at both World events in Las Vegas and Norfolk.

The single Lift Worlds will be in Norfolk, VA again this year on November 7-8. We had a great turnout last year we decided to return Back to Brute Strength Gym for a 2nd year in a row. The same deals will be in effect for the single lifts as the full power so make sure to get your forms in asap to get the early bird special. Go to the website to print off an entry form for either meet.

Read the letter for the single lift worlds to see how many World Championship belts we will be providing for the bench, deadlift and Curl. When you click on the entry form there is an intro for what is going to happen at this event for awards.

Sponsors:
we are looking for our sponsors for the 2009 World Championship belts. If you have a business or know of someone willing to sponsor a belt they are $250 each. They will get their name on the belt as the Class sponsor for that weight class. 4 free tickets to the event, name on the t-shirts and banner and 1 year free advertising on our website. We are looking for 20 sponsors this year for all of the belts. Please contact me at [email protected] ([email protected]) if you or someone you know is interested.

Arizona
Congratulations to Paul Gillott our Arizona state chairman for running an awesome event in Prescott on July 18. He had more than 70 lifters for the Southwest Regional's which was an incredible competition. I went there to help out and had the time of my life in Prescott. I met some of the nicest people there and everyone was so polite and very helpful. Paul has a great thing going on down in Arizona and if you ever get a chance to lift in one of his meet you need to do it. Well run efficient meet with lots of quality lifters. There was more than 40 National records broken on this day.

New Jersey
Congratulations to Mike Binkley who is a 100% RAW National Champion and our newest State Chairman for New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He already has his 1st event scheduled for October 3rd in New Jersey. You can print off an entry form from our website. In 2010 he will be running 2 events in each state New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Mike is young and very energetic and will do a fine job for the federation. He just of out of the US Armed forces where he served in the Marines.

100% RAW will be in Brazil this weekend for our 1st ever in this country. Stay posted for the results when the meet is over. Brazil is the newest country to join 100% RAW and we look forward in seeing them competing in the Worlds this year.

Canada
Canada has there 1st meet scheduled and there are making some noise up there wanting more events. We have chairman in eastern and western Canada which will help promote meets. We already have 5 lifters from Canada registered for the Worlds this year.

Asia
100% RAW had it 1st meet in Turkeih last month. I am awaiting the results so we can post them. And our chairman in India Vishal is working on his 1st meet as well.

Records
I am in the process of updating the records and hope to have all National and World records posted by this weekend. Please check them out over the weekend and let me know if there are any I might have missed.
