What's up everyone? I've been keeping a thread over at MD since early 2008 and since everyone has moved over here, I am moving that thread over here. If you're a new reader of my thread, here's a quick background. I've been training since I was 17; I'm 24 now. I've been seriously bodybuilding (naturally, probably won't stay that way for much longer) for about 2-3 years. I had a facet joint injury in my back at the beginning of 2008 that sidelined me for about 3 months, and I basically had to start over. I was 208 at 5'7" on December 1, 2009. I started a diet on that day and am now 175.5 as of yesterday morning. I'm not doing a competition (yet). I have not found a natural show nearby (I live in St. Louis) anywhere close to the time I expect to be finished w/ the diet. I do want to compete next year though. So I'm using the current diet as a test run for next year, although I do not intend to get back up to 208 or near as fat as I was at that weight again. I also have not been shredded since 2005, so it's about time I peel and see what needs work.

Here are some pics from week 1 (12/1/08). I was 208. I lost my measurements from that week, so no idea what anything was except I know my waist was about 38.5". I last measured it about a week ago and it was 33 3/8".

Forgot to add, I've been feeling like I had a minor cold for the past 2 weeks, but I kept training like usual. It finally hit me on Wednesday and I found out I have a sinus/ear infection so I'm being smart and taking a few rest days until it's gone. I typically do not take any full rest days when dieting. I do weights 5 days a week and cardio every day. I do 2 40 minute sessions on weight days, and a 1 hour session on non-weight days. But right now I'm not doing anything until this infection has cleared.

Well my buddy changed his mind. He's been sick this week too so he decided to take a nap. Now I'm on the fence between a stromboli and mozza sticks, which I had last weekend, or some Americanized Mexican food, which I haven't had since starting the diet. Hmmmm....

And yes, the water retention from dbol could be detrimental while dieting. I will save that for a few months down the road.

What is arnis? I ended up going w/ the strom and mozza sticks again this weekend. It's just too good not to have when I'm home. Met up w/ an old lifting buddy/coworker and stuffed my face then watched Step Brothers. That is the best movie ever made. And got to pet my friend's Chihuahua, which he named Xbox. That's when you know you love gaming a little too much.

Now time for evening cardio...then more rest! All the rest I've got these past few days has really helped. I feel much much better now.

It wasn't. My parents have an elliptical in front of a TV so I just watch movies while I do my cardio there. Watched The Chronicles of Riddick this weekend. I love the cardio cinema at Gold's but assholes always come in there to have conversations, when there are like 100 machines to do cardio on out in the main room, but they decide to come in and piss people off in the cinema. Since I had to take a few rest days last week, I think I'm going to switch up my routine just a bit starting tomorrow. In the past it has looked like this:

Mon-Chest, Calves, (2) 40 min sessions of cardio--done every day except cardio only days
Tues-Legs, Abs --morning cardio only 20 min
Wed-Cardio only--1 hour
Thurs-Shoulders, Traps, Calves
Fri-Back, Abs
Sat-Arms
Sun-Cardio only

So this week I'm just going to move a few days around.

Mon-Legs, Abs
Tues-Chest, Calves
Wed-Cardio only
Thurs-Arms
Fri-Back, Abs
Sat-Shoulders, Traps, Calves
Sun-Cardio only

Not much change, but I was getting tired of the old split. And since I missed legs last week, I'm going to hit them extra hard tomorrow. May do 7's on leg press then do 4 drop sets to failure on extensions or something. The goal is to be in excruciating pain through 20 minutes of cardio.

Also going to start using SuperPump and caffeine preworkout tomorrow.

Bacon Boy

Saw your post on Bacon Boy's thread about how heavy you used to be. I have a friend who got shredded down, he told me you don't realize how fat you were until you get lean. He said people think they are big when they really are just fat.

Is that how you feel about it?

BEAST MODE
02-22-2009, 09:39 PM
That is exactly how I feel about it Mike. I mean, yeah I was big and I was pretty strong, but I hated the way I looked and felt. Walking around at almost 230 is tough at 5'7". I got winded so easily. I did cut down from 230 to about 183ish in the summer of 2007 and didn't look to shabby, but I didn't realize how much fat I had on me. And I knew I was carrying a lot when I started this diet, but I didn't know it was that much. I thought I'd be good to go at 170, but I'm 175 now and realize I am not going to be there at 170. But the weight doesn't matter to me at this point. I just want to be completely peeled. I don't think I've been in the single digit bf% since 2005, possibly 2003. My senior year of high school I was diced.

You know what, I was really fat going into my junior year of high school. I didn't play football sophomore year. I just dated this girl and ate like crap, got up to like 190 before football, then it all came off and I started lifting regularly again. Then a friend of mine got me into bodybuilding and I've only got heavy since then to put on muscle. I had a hard time early on putting on weight, but now I'm one of those people who can look at a doughnut and gain 3 pounds.

Good goal to set for yourself to on the 30th reunion.

I have no idea how much more I'll lose to be honest. I'm just going by the mirror and measurements right now. I only weigh to make sure I'm not losing too much too fast. And I've upped my weighing to twice a week now instead of weekly. I think I'm on week 13 or something now and I've lost 33 pounds. It's been so gradual that I didn't notice how big the changes were. But looking at the pictures, and even the pictures between 2 weeks ago and now, it's a huge difference. I know I'm starting to peel when I can see my lower abs. And I'm not talking about the lower 2. I mean the abdominal wall below the belt line. It's finally starting to show through and I can see those muscles when I flex. It looks really cool.

Kelly Baker
02-23-2009, 01:25 PM
Well...I estimate it was probably about 30 pounds. You see, I'd gotten awfully good at manipulating my parent's dial scale to read what I wanted because I knew I was heavier than I wanted to be. I was probably between 135-140 (on a 5' 2" frame) and dropped clear to 107 lbs in the course of two semesters. How? I lived on the fourth floor of my dorm and took the stairs every day, walked all over creation on the campus with the 3rd largest land area in Ohio, and lived next to the WORST cafeteria on campus. You combine that last item with being a horribly picky eater and the weight came off and not on purpose. When my body ran out of fat that it was willing to burn, it turned on my mucle mass. To be honest if I had known about my "issues" then, it probably would have helped explain the weight coming off as well due to nutrient absorbtion issues when you consider what I was eating. (Lots of pasta, bread, etc. you know, stuff I could IDENTIFY)

G and BB, I am taking pics every few weeks. I'll probably take some new ones the weekend of the Arnold when I'm back in Indiana. I just don't have time through the week to do it, and I hate trying to take them by myself. You guys know your body looks different at different times of day and depending on what you've eaten, etc. I am constantly looking in the mirror though. When I go to take a piss, I stop and hit a few poses for a few minutes just to see the progress because it's been so damn long since I could see the definition. And my skin is so responsive to the temp too. If it's the slightest bit warm, I look fat because my skin loosens up, but if I'm cold, I can see so much more. Yada yada yada.

Energy has completely crashed this afternoon. I have enough fuel in the tank to make the drive home, then I'm done. Gonna take the evening off from cardio and catch up on the sleep I didn't get last night. I'm not risking getting sick again from lack of rest. I got 5.5 hours last night, so I need rest right now if I'm going to be productive tomorrow. I think I'm going to start being more instinctive right now. Gotta try new things right? I'm still going to train the same and everything, but if I have 0 energy in the evening or didn't get enough sleep the previous night, I'm going to ease up a bit. I'm sure lack of sleep and going to the gym no matter how I was feeling contributed, in some way, to getting sick. Anyway, 1 more hour and I'm on the road to my bed. Chest day tomorrow. I'm excited for the weekend. I'm getting a deep tissue massage on Saturday, so it will actually be a complete rest day again. I haven't had any deep tissue work done for about 2 years, and my back is killing me. It's been in spasms for about 2-3 weeks now and I can't take it anymore. I've got too much energy this morning. I want to go back to the gym. But instead I'm taking a HMDA test.

Thought I would share w/ everyone that I will be a groomsman for the first time in September. Pretty exciting news for me. One of my best friends is finally getting married to the girl he's been w/ for 8 years. I'm really looking forward to it because they are both a lot of fun. This could be a random conversation starter. Any takers?

Guess no one wanted to talk about wedding parties...

So, as usual my energy started to wane around 1 today. I just got some caffeine pills w/ my last order on bb.com. I went w/ the Prolab 200mg tabs. So I popped one of those at 1 pm. Energy kicked in around 1:30, but wasn't excessive at all. It's gone now, and I had to crack open a Diet Rockstar. My body seems to be pretty much immune to the effects of caffeine. Or maybe it's just the sitting in front of a computer all day that is outweighing the effects.

Mine goes into spasms quite often. Sucks, but I've learned to deal w/ the pain until I can get work done. Lumbar sprains...hmmm, do facet joint injuries in L4, L5, and S1 count? In that case, I would have 2, or whatever they equate to. They were no fun.

Kelly Baker
02-26-2009, 12:38 PM
Facet joint pain is a little different because of the nature of the onset. It sucks every bit as much though, if not more. The last (and worst) sprain I got was from the 3 hour scraping of ice on the driveway Christmas Eve. It's still not quite fully resolved, I don't think, and that's my fault for not backing down on the weights for more than a week and a half.

Yeah, the spasms are getting pretty bad right now. Just makes my whole back hurt really. At the worst points, it feels like searing pain in the mid/lower traps. If I am not laying on my back, it's terrible. I don't know how I've managed to train back the past few weeks. Mind over matter I guess.

At least you don't have radicular pain. (Pain that radiates down a leg or both) That nearly always indicates disc and nerve involvement. My Mom has had back problems for years, all kinds of degenerative stuff, so that makes me realize two things. A. I'm not as young as I used to be and B. What she is experiencing is a preview of what I could experience.

The only place I'm actually concerned about my image is at work. Can't be a moron here! lol You're adjusting very quickly with regard to those fuckers. Want to do comp? The problem is that the State really screwed up with their worker's comp insurance programs as we are one of the last monopolistic states. It is not a prereq to have a problem. I used to do it regularly for maintenance, but it's been a long time since I've had one. I would definitely recommend it. The first one I got spurred a lot of new growth. I gained about 1" on everything in the following 2 months. I'm hoping this one will bring out a little separation. 12 pm can't come fast enough.

Better than the school I went to in Indiana. Their "weight room" was about the size of the lower level of my house. They probably only had 500 lbs in weights too.

Dimmu Borgir
In Flames

And the massage was excellent. It ended up being a guy, so a little let down because I thought it was going to be a female. But he was able to get really deep. It was somewhat painful, but it worked. Bout to go watch a movie and crash for a while.

Agreed, Pantera is KILLER for workout music. Even though I workout at home I still like headphones, the isolation is really effective for focus and intensity.

Rage Against the Machine and Megadeth are some more great choices. Well, the only metal that isn't going to work is really experimental or technical stuff like Atheist.

BEAST MODE

Pantera is the shit, but for some reason they recorded their albums at such low volumes that I have to crank their shit up, then when it gets to the next artist I go deaf. And yes it does help w/ focus. I'm in the zone w/ headphones in. I have the same opinion of that experimental shit.
