View Full Version : Bruce Lee Tribute Thread
In my opinion without Bruce Lee MMA would not be where it is today. He has been called the "Father of MMA" by Dana White and many others for years. He introduced a different approach to hand to hand combat, by mixing styles and developing "no style", Jeet Kune Do.

He has. He definitely was an inspiration for me, and the reason my martial art is what it is today.

He's the reason I busted myself in the face about a thousand times with my nunchakus.

I took a few shots myself in my training with them. I was told to use the foam covered nunchaku to start, but I refused. I learned the use and respect of the weapon pretty quickly because fo that.

If there is one thing that I absolutely must do before I die, it is to visit grave.

I started with the shitty foam ones. Then I want to a wooden pair with 2 thin ropes attaching them. Once I was confortable with them I went to a good pair with ball bearings. Haven't had them out in a few years, I would probably kill myself the first few times. I like my staff's and tonfa's better.

He would rule the cage. Yes, he would even beat Fedor, well not really he would be too old by now.
Have they ever really came up with a cause of death? I have heard some many different stories I can't tell what's truth and what's fake.

The action is a tad bit different on the traditional nunchaku (connected with cord) as opposed to the current ball bearing swivel system with the chain. I prefer the chain link.

It seems to be that the commonly accepted cause of death is an aneuresym.

Don't forget what a great poet the man was. I posted this over at MD. I read it every morning like a prayer.
I wish neither to possess,
Nor to be possessed.
I no longer covet paradise,
More important, I no longer fear hell.
The medicine for my suffering
I had within me from the very beginning,
But I did not take it.
My ailment came from within myself,
But I did not observe it
Until this moment.
Now I see that I will never find the light
Unless, like the candle, I am my own fuel,
Consuming myself.

I remember people telling me that when he finally did movies that the directors had to beg him to slow down so they could actually catch his movements on camera.

Amazing, is it not? Jun Fan's striking speed from three feet with his hands down by his side reached five hundredths of a second. His kicks, while slower, still were normally too fast.

I am sure everyone has their reasons for not participating. Most Jeet Kune Do stylists that I have known or known of subscribe to the same beliefs and philosophy that Jun Fan did. Most accounts suggest that Jun Fan (later in life) did not believe in wanton violence, even in the name of sport; only be well trained and ready when the need arose. Probably to preserve his legacy to the fullest concerning Jeet Kune Do, those who study it also do not.
Hard to say really, though.

Cause they would get their ass handed to them by people who really fight instead of just doing really fast forms.

Jeet Kune Do is void of form.
MMA is basically Jeet Kune Do put into action.
