At a local Barnes and Noble book store and noticed "Overdo$ed America: The Broken Promise of American Medicine/How the Pharmaceutical Companies are Corrupting Science, Misleading Doctors, and Threatening Your Health" by John Abramson, M.D.

Chapter 5 hit me, but may be old news to our Masters Women.

The chapter title is "A Case in Point: The Saga of Hormone Replacement Therapy".

From that chapter:

"The women who took HRT had access to the best care that American medicine had to offer: Compared with the population at large, they were more likely to have graduated from college, were wealthier, and were more likely to have received preventative health care.

Despite this, they unwittingly exposed themselves to increased risks of breast cancer, heart attack, stroke, Alzheimer's disease, and blood clots."

And "26 percent increase in the risk of breast cancer caused by HRT found in the Women's Health Initiative study..."

The reason for all that text? Well, it's curious to me, once again, how so much funding is available for interdiction and incarceration, but those finances seem to fall short when it comes to much needed studies, education, and training of medical personnel wrt effective use of hormones for both men and women.

Bah.
