Ok I am in a contest for cutting and the end is coming up. Pro BB will be judging pictures of the mandatory poses so I was told that I need posing trunks and tan. My question is how do you pick the right pair of trunks and since I am African American how do I determine a level of color. I know these are dumb questions but just getting started and this will give me a foundation going into my shows next year.

RE: posing trunks, generally better to go w/ dark, solid colors. Generally for pre-judge they request non-metallic, solid colors. And darker colors are not as likely to show stains e.g. from protan or any other mishap that could stick out like a sore thumb if you have no backup suit.

RE: color - here I"m not sure. I think at a min you might want a layer or two to even out your skin, and then some oil for stage time - usually the show will provide expeditors who take care of that, but not all the time. Sometimes they just use PAM cooking oil. I've also used almond oil. My last show, Quadsweep & Rita used some horse spray that worked great - not too oily and good for the skin.

Here is a cut and paste from a forum I saved a while ago. I'd give credit if I could remember where I got it.

A bodybuilder must choose trunks or bikinis in accordance to his/her body type and skin color. Never buy a
specific color or cut simply because another competitor looks good in them, or the color appears attractive. Here
are some buying/designing tips*:

• Those with a long torso should wear high waist cut trunks. Those with a short torso should wear low
waist cut trunks. The cut visually can help to alter the upper body length to suggest better proportions.

• Those with long legs should wear low leg cut trunks. Those with short legs should wear high leg cut
trunks. The cut visually can help to alter the lower body length to suggest proportions.

• Black and other dark colors can make the hips look smaller, and accentuate the width of the shoulders
and sweep of the thighs.

• Those with pale skin should not wear white or light colors since this accentuates the paleness, making
the skin appear washed-out. Light skinned people look best in medium to dark greens, blues, or reds.

• Dark skinned people look best in bright reds, yellows, blues, orange, or cream.

• Very dark skinned people can wear medium to medium bright colors, but should stay away from white
and very bright shades since there is too much contrast between the suit and skin colors; this contrast
appears to cut the physique in half rather than compliment it.

• Those with blond hair should consider pink, turquoise, or green.

• Those with dark hair should consider red, white, fuchsia, or royal blue.

• NOTE: judges do not allow multi-colored suits because of their distracting qualities.

• Quality suits are available through Andreas Cahling at 1-800-458-7848.
*Depending on hair, skin color or structure, more than one suggestion may apply.

General Guidelines
Women competitors must wear a solid, non-distracting color bikini. The bikini must be clean and decent (no Gstrings).
The fastenings of the bikini must be plain with no attached ornamentation. Judges do not allow metallic
materials, such as gold or silver. Men’s trunks must also be a solid, non-distracting color, clean and decent (no Gstrings).
Judges do not allow metallic materials.
Once a contestant tag with a number is provided at the competition, clip the tag on the left side of the posing
trunks.

Also look at the cut in the back - sometimes a straight cut across the back can chop you off at the waist and interrupt the V-shape.

I suggest CJ suits http://cynthia-james.com/ She is an awesome lady and an IFBB pro. She will advise you on the cut to best suit your physique. They fit great and don't smash your balls! Thats a plus on an 4 hour comp! For tan I suggest http://www.liquidsunrayz.com/ Marilynn will get you set up. I also got the show horse spray from her... that is wonderful stuff...smells good to another plus when you have not showered in days!
