it just irritates me that i can never have 8 hours of uninteruppted sleep... i always wake up at the 3-4 hour mark to go to the toilet or drink protein shake..lol... i sleep again easily though..

if you feel good after your 2 part sleep, whats the problem? if you feel dragged down, i found biotest's z-12 fixes that for me when i have times like that or i have to go to work the next day early leaving me with 6 hrs or less of sleep.

Melatonin works ok for me at 3mg. Any higher than that for me personally and I have jacked up dreams. There is another thread about that with some funny stuff in it. Somalyze if you are cutting has the melatonin in it already. Also good stuff.

For some people, lower doses work better. I like time release melatonin better. The normal kind makes me fall asleep but I tend to wake up in the middle of the night more. I use 1 mg time release tabs.

ProminoPlus effervescent powder knocks me out for 8 hours with deep sleep. It comes with a morning dose and a PM dose. Whatever is in the PM dose is strong.

Melatonin. Use a time released form if you wake during the night for a longer sustained sleep.

3-6 mg should do the trick. I prefer 3mg rapid release and 3mg time released.

I haven't tried Somalyze yet, but Scivation's 'Knockout' is my favorite in this category.

st john`s wort works very well for me. I use it every night. 5htp although used for mild depression 50-100mg is good. Valerian root is very strong and left me drousy the next day, would use sparingly. Extra strength nytol is effective. I cycle all of them except for st john`s wort. I swear when I take st john`s wort with 5 htp I can feel myselft falling and know I will be getting a good sleep. Will be trying gaba soon.

How much are you working out? Try cutting back a week on how many times you go to the gym. When I start going 5 days, 1.5-2 hours a piece, it seems my body wants to do everything but sleep. Went to a Mon/Wed/Fri HIT style, at only an hour tops and this has been the best week of sleep I've had in a long time.

Just a thought. Your body knows best and will fight you every step of the way. I'll put alot of stuff into myself during the day, but at night, I want normal healthy 'drug-less' sleep. Just my opinion, thats all.

Gotta go with the suggestions thus far of Melatonin and GABA. Both of which, I believe, are in SOMALYZE.

Good stuff.

I do shift work and have used Melatonin and Valerian. Both worked to an extent but left me with that fuzzy hungover feeling when I wake up.

I now use GABA and it's great. good quality restfull sleep with no after effects.

Try snooze in from the Vitamin Shoppe.

It has magnesium, valerian root, hops, melatonin, chamomile, skullcap, passion flower, calcium, and L-taurine.

Why did everyone respond with melatonin when he said it doesn't work for him?

Rozerem works wonders to. It is is not habit forming and if you do not get a full eight hours of sleep you are not drowsy.

I agree with the recommendation for the time released melatonin. If all you have is regular, you can dose again halfway through the night. It wears off fast enough that you won't be groggy in the morning.

L-theanine also works well. I've tinkered with everything under the sun in the past 10 years.

Mild insomnia I use 100mg l-theanine, if it seems fairly bad, I'll add 100mg 5-htp.

1mg Melotonin also works, or 3mg time released. 3mg was too much straight up and caused very vivid nightmares.

Valerian root I found too mild

St. John's wort requires frequent use (not convenient for me)

Kava Kava works well if anxiety was keeping me awake.

Scheduled drug but Clonazepam was hands down the best, .5mg would allow me to sleep VERY well for 3-4 days straight (long half life).

I never had luck with Melatonin until I found the 5 mg bottle. Now I take 2 or 3 and get some good sleep with very vivid dreams - which is a common side effect with melatonin. Had to take too many of th 3 mg's.

Try Vitamin C time released caps,
Vitamin C lowers cortisol, which helps the body stay in a less stressfull state contributing to sleep quality. Couple friends tried this and felt the results.

My combo lately, 3mg Melatonin, 2 ZMA pills by "Now Nutrition" and a glass of red wine...
Melatonin didnt do much for me by itself, but when combined with ZMA, its lights out...
(I may have a beer instead of wine while watching TV, not recommeneded for the non-drinker) :>)
