I always wondered if my pituitary gland burned itself out like a roman candle...look at me at either 8 or 9 (can't remember), and at 13 1/2...I was the biggest dude on my team, or so it looks. Remember that some of the dudes on the team with the crimson shirts were 14, and could have been almost 15. In the pic of me in the crimson shirt, I am 3rd from the right of the people standing...my father was on the far right. He was 6' even. You can see how big I was at that age. Guess what? I never grew another inch after that. I was 5'8" at age 13, and still am.

In the purple shirt pic, I am 3rd from left back row. Even slouched as I am, you can see that I am the tallest kid. I could have been 8 1/2 or 9 1/2 in this pic...I know where we lived at the time, so I know I was one of those two ages. You can also see that I was a chubby, but not fat kid in the younger pic. I am still built like that! lol

Interesting to ponder why I grew so young and stopped so young. I had hair under my arms beginning at age 10 (summer right before turning 11), and was shaving daily at age 13.

You can see why I never say, "man I wish I was skinny like I was as a kid," that's because I never was skinny!

My dad carried a laminated version of that pic in his wallet until the day he died. I was 31 yrs old. And I'm not an only child yet this was the only pic of any of us he had in his wallet. That's why that pic is special to me.

That's a really nice story, GM. I lost my dad when I was 22 and I still think of him most every day.

My theory is your early entry into puberty probably was part of the reason for the no more height.

Upon entering puberty the male starts to produce testosterone. Resulting aromatse and the estrogen produced will cause a closing of the growth plates on your bones, therefore limiting height.
