LOL ... I posted one of the onstage pics of us from Friday on my FaceBook page.

Thanks for the pics Blu. It is great that those of us who were unable to travel to Columbus can still participate, even if it is indirectly.
Mike and Bruce do kinda favor. Not sure if that is a compliment or not?
Hey everyone...finally got to a computer. Thanks for all the well wishes! Paul was a great guy and we had a fun time. I was a little nervous at first when I stripped down, but Mr G made it easy. It was a great experience to pose in public in a "practice" show. I actually was enjoying which worries me a litte bit, I guess I am member of the Mirror Whore Coalition now (right Ed?)
I was a little disappointed that Paul and I didn't win anything but a t-shirt, but that's ok. I did it to do it, not to win something.
My leg was shaking toward the end when I tried to spike my right calf, so I had to try to switch legs a couple of poses. I did ok considering I have only been posing for about 3 weeks now.
I went to the Schmidt's Sausage Haus for an epic cheat meal: 2 plates of German sausage, cabbage and potato salad, most of a 32 oz stein of beer, and 1/2 lb peanut butter and chocolate cream puff.
What an experience! I am ready now for my 12 week show prep...Esplendido concurred with my coach that 15 lbs is the number I need to lose, which will put me right at 170.
Training with Ed was a great experience....he got my form correct on tricep pushdowns and overhead rope extensions, as well as helped me with my front relaxed

Yes, that's what the original challenge was supposed to be, supplements as prizes...we each won a t-shirt, 2xl, so I have to wash it in boiling water and put it in the oven so I can wear it! lol

It could be just difference in lighting, but if it is a diet/water thing, you'll want to figure that out before your contest in May.

I got pretty dehydrated on Friday and really never caught back up the entire weekend. I ate like crap for 2 of the 3 days (friday night and Sunday) I was there too, and that didn't help.
I do think I will do well in my contest. I am at 12% bf right now and looked only bad in my lower torso, so at 4% I will look great I think

The whole thing was distracting because it was in a vendor exhibition hall with about 100,000 people milling around...but once it started I was able to concentrate pretty well.
More observations from watching the video again.
I am pretty fat still for a bodybuilder
I need to pose, pose and pose some more to get more stamina on holding poses
Need to learn to flex my lats (ed gave me some good tips, so I can work on it)
will need to invest in a real good custom spray tan job, janna tan doesn't cut it for me
I enjoyed it way too much!

No, didn't mean it to sound down, just as a motivational tool...I have a long ways to go to be competitive in my real show, and I know it. It is really going to help me to have done this challenge.

2 scoops of whey and navel orange after workout
10 egg whites and 2 oz of sweet potato
2 scoops of whey

then for meal 6, will have 8 oz of chicken.

Finally got the courage up to weigh myself.
186.2, meaning I gained almost 2 lbs since Thursday morning. To be honest I feel thinner, so I am not sure what's up with that. But I ate like crap Friday night, and Sunday all day, just hungry beyond reason. I honestly was almost thinking it would be worse than 2 lbs, so I guess I should be happy!

Might want to add Balsamic vinegar 50/50 with that oil on salad. Zero cals and helps with the blood PH from all the whey. Stress = weight gain (in my case bloat). And, don't ask me why. I was the poster child for that yesterday.

Carbs. Bet you're not as flat. You might even get the "whoosh" this week.
by whoosh are you meaning a big drop in weight?
I am also back on the low carb train so back to flat very soon!
today I did not eat exactly what my coach gave me, I need to start cooking fish somehow, plus was supposed to eat 50g of sweet potato but could not find them at Kroger at all
1: 2 scoops whey
2: postworkout MetRx protein bar in car on way to client
3: 10 egg whites
4: 2 scoops whey, navel orange
5: 8 oz of chicken
6: 2 scoops of whey, 2 tbsp of sugar free chocolate syrup, 10 peanuts mixed in

It was great to see and train next to you guys! A pleasure to meet Blu! I was up till about 4AM the night before, so I was glad Mike set a date to train or I'm sure I wouldn't have made it that day!
I was invited to a few clubs with a nameless supplement company Friday night. Finally at 3AM I said to them, "done! Take me to the hotel". I haven't been clubbing in over 30 years! I'M TOOOOOO OLD FOR THAT KINDA CRAP! LOL!
Anyway, we shot off the guns at a great meat head gym. Lots of big beef and clapping, slapping steal!
Just a note at to the two great men that stood on that stage Friday. My hats off to those guys! They had a huge crowd that was having a great time and you could see the admiration from them as they watched these two men go through their moves. I WAS AND STILL AM INSPIRED!!!
Baldie
My friend, I keep training hard. I keep working on my weak points. I'll be at the 2011 Masters Nats and the No Americans. This time I'll have my head screwed on straight. My sweetheart will be there this time or I will not! I've come to the age that I'm just more stable when she is by my side.
Celluco picks up all my bills and take amazing care of me. So that pressure is off my mind! If you guys want any of thier products, go to their web site www.celcucor.com (http://www.celcucor.com) and add promo code, oldsuperman, and you'll get free shipping and 10% off.
I'm doing what I can to get then to send me to Master Nats this July. We'll see!!
Again Mike. I love ya brother. Soooo proud of ya! Popps:hmn:
Popps, I feel blessed I got to train with you. Just one session and I feel even more like a bodybuilder!
I knew last night as I was getting ready for bed that I had lost some weight pretty fast. I could tell by how my abs looked and my pants were loose more than usual.

Mike, how'd your wife like the show, your new physique, and how's her weight loss going?
I looked better on saturday and even better on Sunday than I did at the contest!
You have just seen how your body responded to carb loading and probably much lower stress levels.

Just a note at to the two great men that stood on that stage Friday. My hats off to those guys! They had a huge crowd that was having a great time and you could see the admiration from them as they watched these two men go through their moves. I WAS AND STILL AM INSPIRED!!!
The privilege of meeting was all mine. You are an inspiration to me!
I've talked to my wife a lot about both you and Baldie. She gets you mixed up, still, but is impressed with both.

Popps, I feel blessed I got to train with you. Just one session and I feel even more like a bodybuilder!
I knew last night as I was getting ready for bed that I had lost some weight pretty fast. I could tell by how my abs looked and my pants were loose more than usual.
183.4!, down almost 3 in one day, and I did eat all 6 meals yesterday
Traveling seems to be good for your weight loss ... all the different activity and excitement.
Do you have posing practice starting back up Friday ?
Posing lessons do start again on Friday, but I have been practicing again yesterday and today...need to get in much better condition!
Today I did back, I really am trying to lift heavier
Deadlifts (really suck at these now): 6/225 warmup, 6/275 5/315 2/335 4/335
Inverted rows: 14 15 14 13
underhand closegrip pulldowns 185 lbs (honest weight on the new machine): 8 7 7 6
bentover db rows, both hands at once, 85's: 7 8 8 8
10 minutes posing practice.
Deadlifts (really suck at these now): 6/225 warmup, 6/275 5/315 2/335 4/335
Hey, that's about all I am doing, so quit saying I suck too!
Just bothers me because I usually do 365-385 for 4 reps!!!!
I think I hurt my back too at these lighter weights...might go see my chiro if it doesn't get better by tomorrow.
did mention before how I am really really really digging not doing cardio?
I have decided now that it's getting warmer, to go ahead and incorporate intervals a couple of times a week outdoors....wind sprints more than likely. Never seen a sprinter who was not jacked.
Check this out Two sessions are better (http://www.ergo-log.com/twohalfhourjoggingsessions.html) than one longer one.
This was always a theory of mine and now there is scientific evidence to prove it!
Good article
i have read so many articles with scientific backing to shoot down long bouts of slow cardio, I will never do it again.
Just going to do short interval sessions and maybe hike in the park on Sunday morning now that it's warm again!
Long slow cardio WILL work, but it's not as effective. HIIT is where it's at. Much more productive and does not take as much of your time.
It's great for controlling blood sugar levels after eating.
I am sold on it so I will try it this weekend!
today's food:
2 scoops whey, navel orange
postworkout, protein bar, Metrx (after I ate this I went and bought Lean Body drinks to leave in the car for mornings when I couldn't get a whey shake)
lunch: 8 oz chicken breast, 2 oz of sweet potato
snack: 2 scoops of whey.
I am determined to get below 180 in 2 weeks, come hell or high water.

doing 365-385 for reps in the recent past, plus did 2 at 425 not too long ago.
I realize I was 15-20 lbs heavier then, maybe that counts for something, but fat does not lift the bar!

It's great for controlling blood sugar levels after eating.
But HIIT takes your heart rate over 130 and enters into anaerobic work, which burns glucose, not fat. If Mike is trying to hold muscle, he'll burn it to provide glucose since he's eating low carb. HIIT is not good cardio for contest prep!
this is always an interesting debate
If you do 5 50 yd dashes with a walk back to the starting line in between as your cardio, don't see how that's a muscle burner.

Great job on your contest prep eating!

Official weigh in day
183.2 (down 1.2 since last Thursday)
34.5" waist (down about 1/2 or so since last week)
two things have me a little stressed:
chest is down to 41 1/2
and worst of all my thighs are barely 23" now!
Throw the f'n tape measure away!

It worked well for me, but I was not on a keto diet. It's what occurs when you're done with HIIT and the fat burning process continues.

Fat does help a lot with size. I wouldn't worry about it. You looked pretty thick in the pictures. You wanted a May show. You can't expect muscle size and being on a calorie deficit for months. Just sayin.

I know, Bob. My legs look better now than ever, so I should not even care!
Went to East Coast Gym and signed up for a one month membership just to see if it works to drive that far before I commit to permanent.
Did a shoulder workout:
Seated cybex shoulder press, wide: 4 sets
Db laterals, normal grip: 4 sets
Front bb raises: 4 sets
DB laterals, palms facing mirror: 4 sets
Bentover reverse flys: 4 sets
Wide grip rows to the sternum, slightly bent forward at the waist: 4 sets
10 minutes posing.
Definitely seeing the loss in the mirror. I guess 1 lb shows now.

I think doing no cardio, switching to higher protein and lower fat diet( it was easy to cheat with nuts and peanut butter), and the fact I am posing every day, are all contributing. Plus I think my body is used to this now and is starting to burn more efficiently...at least I hope so!

I think this is misleading, though.
Everyone and his uncle enters 5K and 10K races these days. Some of them have horrible physiques. All the front-runners, though, are lean.
Hardly anyone is a recreational sprinter. Otherwise you'd see skinny-fat people doing that, too. It is a "filtered" sample, while the distance running population is "unfiltered".

I need to look, I don't recall any other way, but I am wrong probably!
It's an AB pose, not an ab/thigh pose. Try standing with both legs together and don't crunch too much. Lift up your rib cage, shoulders and chest high and then contract your abs. If your bodyfat were lower, you could crunch more if needed but you need smoke and mirrors here.

I think maybe you are right, but I have never seen anyone not stick their leg out. It acutally is called ab-thigh isolation in the jargon I read.
Especially when you have good legs, you have to draw attention to them and away from your fat ass midsection! lol
Coach could always change it as I lean out. He already changed my side relaxed because I looked to tensed up in Columbus the way I was doing it.
no it's not, it's ab-thigh isolation at least in virginia. It's required to do the thigh part
Must be a Virginia thing. NPC rules page does not spell this out to include the thigh. I digress.

not sure, I edited my post after seeing pics of other people not sticking their leg out!
I do think it's mainly because my legs are so good and my abs so bad that he has me doing it this way right now.
I never thought I would say I needed to bring my quads up to match my hams, but I think I do now that I see the pics!
I need to get the outer sweep especially...my legs are flat down the sides when viewed from the front!
here is my new and improved side relaxed
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w294/namtrag/b79306cc.jpg
my front relaxed...have to concentrate on spreading lats without trying to use my arms to do it. arms need to stay closer to sides, and I need to avoid rolling traps over and shoulders forward...just flex my lats...I cannot feel them so it's hard to flex them:

The relaxed poses are looking better ...
funny how the "relaxed" is almost harder to pose
Legs look f'n great! turn your feet outward just a little more to help with quad flare.
Take your pictures in a slightly softer light without the guy on the treadmill. LOL

It's an AB pose, not an ab/thigh pose. Try standing with both legs together and don't crunch too much. Lift up your rib cage, shoulders and chest high and then contract your abs. If your bodyfat were lower, you could crunch more if needed but you need smoke and mirrors here.
That is not correct.
The NPC magazine itself calls it out as "Abdominals with One Thigh" ...
Check out Page 134 in this PDF file:

At every NPC show I've attended, the head judge calls for: Abdominal pose, one thigh extended.

I agree! Front Relaxed pose is really looking good, Mike.
Ok, whatever. I copied and pasted the above from the official NPC rules page. It simply states Abdominal pose.

Mike, in the picture at the bottom of that page, half the guys are doing it the way you do it. The other half have their legs all the way extended (or hyperextended) at the knee to contract the quads as much as possible. Mine look truly weak doing the second way, so I do it your way, basically.
I think you could improve it a bit by bringing your extended foot more directly in front of your body. Play around with it, and see what your posing coach thinks.
I will talk to the coach and at least see the reasoning....he has me lock down on the MM pose, but on the ab-thigh, he wants me to spike my calf
Follow your coaches advice, not mine.

So it's an ab-thigh-calf pose. :yep:

I just cooked up a carton egg beaters...made palatable by dumping some Frank's Hot Wing Sauce (boy is this hot), and a bunch of Land O Lakes Sharp Cheddar Seasoning.
It almost tastes good!

Now I know I will be in the crowd in May. I can't even imagine Mike doing the robot, the wave or any other form of a break dance. I want to be sure to get this on video. :yep:
I will see if Marvin thinks I can do the robot!

I honestly don't know why the time change bothers anyone, the shit doesn't do a goddamn thing to me, honestly, I don't even fucking feel the difference. Same shit different day.

What about an 18 year old that has high blood pressure?
Can you be more specific?
What is a good highblood pressure in general regardless of age?
I know I am lazy I hate fucking searching shit :D
120/70 is really good I believe
130 on the top is getting to be high
85 on the bottom is getting to be high.
you can have high top number and normal bottom, or vice versa.
Not sure if this is true, but I heard the top number is the stroke risk when high, and the bottom number is the heart attack risk when high...could be old wives tale

I ordered the Raising the Bar trilogy from Mike Pulcinella...I am in the middle of the first DVD and it is really awesome. Well worth $54 for all 3. I am seeing bodybuilding from the inside, and it reaffirms my obsession so far.
I am totally amazed at how much Dave Pulcinella was eating while cutting. 21 egg whites and 3 whole eggs for meal 1, for example
When you're done watching the DVDs, send them to me.

I will trade for your "Secrets of Big Delts" DVD
I will trade for your "Secrets of Big Delts" DVD
OK, that's a fair and easy trade. I don't have a DVD though.
You know what blasted my delts the best?
Heavy DB Rows - 6-8 reps with the 150s - 10lbs under my BW
my laterals always hurt after these
Heavy DB lateral fly - one DB at a time - lose form but under control the entire way
Lots of Rear delt machine and cables from the bottom.

Holy shit gman. I don't recall seeing this picture. Incredible transformation.
this was me at almost the peak of fatness. I had actually lost 5-7 lbs before this pic was taken.
can you believe my chiro could see a bodybuilder in there somewhere...something about good symmetry.
finished watching Raising the Bar 1 last night. I am determined not to be one of the guys Mike Pulcinella filmed up there who he said didn't belong because of lack of conditioning!
Great movie by the way
On to RTB 2!
