It was cool in the early 80's when the sox were pretty good, they were some burly, beer drinking guys on that team...wasn't Gossage on the Sox, and that guy that won the Cy Young award and then burned out his arm?

I haven't weighed in a long time now, probably 4 weeks. I am fitting in 34's still but some are a little snug. I have been told I actually look better with a little weight, but I sure wish the soft back fat would not come back on so quick.

Hmmmm - this doesn't sound good. You worked hard to get lean and now you are sticking your head in the sand as you gain it all back. Get on the scale and hold yourself accountable for what is going on. If you want to be fat that's cool but don't fool yourself into thinking it isn't going to happen. Sorry for my bluntness but I have been your friend for a long time and I know where this is going for you.

I will Allen, just need to buy a scale this week. I was trying to go by how things fit, but that probably won't work for me.

It's fun in a way to live cheap...not saying I want to do it forever.

My monthly budget is $2000 after taxes, and about $1150 of that goes for rent and utilities, leaving me $850 for everything else.

I will charge 10% of the savings as a fee for shopping for you, is that a deal?

I also have pretty quiet neighbors, I really got lucky.

My other cheapskate trick is I have a first floor apartment and it's half way underground in the front and a walkout in the back. I have lived here 10 days and have not used heat or ac a single time, even on Saturday when it was 93. With my luck though, the power company will "estimate" my usage and I will have a huge bill anyway

Nice lifts on the Rack pull. You got me beat by 10lbs. You think this is going to slow down your forearm recovery?

Try doing one arm pulldowns on cable or lat machine so you can rotate your arms as needed to reduce forearm pain.

Get some wraps around that injured forearm and wear it for a couple of weeks while doing anything lifting.

My rack pulls are pretty short, the bottom safety on the squat rack is not adjustable and is above my knee.

Great idea on using handles to rotate my arm. I do have a tight sleeve to wear if I could only find it, sort of like allen Iverson wears.

Hi Mike!

Glad that the new apt. is working out OK.

I have a bit of news for you guys. Last week, I taught a rather stressful and chock-full-of-paperwork class for the Census and wound up losing 4 lbs just running around. Definition in arms and calves improved, so it was worth it....

I haven't disappeared completely but haven't had too much time to hang out on the forums lately.

Still lifting though, and enjoying it a lot!!!

I know so! Plus I just started a month or so ago, big beginner gains!

I am noticing how easy it is if you prop the bb against your legs to help get it going, and also how much easier it is on the second and third rep than on the first one, especially if you touch and go as fast as you can

my erectors are screaming now, not sure if you really want them or not!

the overhand stuff is mostly what gets my tendinitis going. strangely enough I have absolutely no discomfort right now anywhere in that arm...I think the rack deads stretch everything out.

Just a warning. A couple of years ago, the first workout I spoted for Miss Girlymuscle. She was doing lying tri extensions with an ez-curl bar and I let her conk herself in the forehead. It left a nice red mark. And I only laughed a little bit. A couple of years later and it still gets brought up occasionaly. I've spoted for her heaps lifting more weight than she thought she could, never gets mentioned. One red mark on the forehead never gets forgoten. :)

3lbs of london broil, cut up
1 cup of water with 2 beef bullion cubes
1 large can of diced tomatoes with chilis
1 bag of lima beans
1 bag of green beans
6 medium red potatoes, quartered
1 purple onion, cut into 8ths
1 small bag of petite carrots

cooked for 10 hours and it was so good.

I had 1 1/2 bowls for supper and made 8 more containers of it for lunches.

Right now I just use the NotePad app. Each Note is a body part. I can quickly see what I did last workout and then I email it to myself and copy/paste into my journal.

If you find a good app for logging workouts, let me know. I have quite a few similar apps but no good way to pick an exercise, weight, reps. I would like it to summarize total sets and volume and update an online journal automagically.

I did 3 sets each of:

Hands facing seated lat pulldowns
Tbar rows
close grip chins
dual pulley kneeling lat pulls at crossover
rack pulls...this sucked, the bar was set below my knee, only a 2-3" below the level at my other gym, and I couldn't even do 405. I did 315 and then 2 sets at 385

Anyway, the damage is, 25lbs since Columbus....I now weigh 209. I am going to try to cut to 190-195 by cutting my carbs down some, no more bagel thins with breakfast, no carbs after lunch, etc. I am trying not to stress about it like I usually do. What really sucks is with 25 more lbs and plenty of carbs, along with tweaking my TRT, I am actually weaker or barely as strong as I was at 185.

224 I would be in tight 36's. I hate being a small framed dude sometimes.

I think I am a little bit artificially high weight right now....Sunday was my son's graduation and I had to get there early in the morning. I ate trail mix on the way, and then had a cheeseburger for breakfast, lunch (no other food available from vendors unless you wanted hot dogs) and midafternoon snack with him and his gf. then more trail mix on the way home and a protein shake made with milk and peanut butter before bed.

cool, Rich! I am going to take my measurements and a pic tonight just to see how it compares to last time I weighed 209.

It's my sides and lower back that are making my pants tight!

I guess what disappoints me most is the lack of strength. Most people on TRT seem to really gain strength. Plus I weigh 25lbs more and am eating carbs. It seems to have no effect on my weak lifting stats. You can't get bigger unless you lift heavier and I am not lifting heavier.

Crying doesn't make you a sissy Mike. If you truly care about something w/ all your heart and you believe in it 100%, it's perfectly fine for your eyeballs to sweat a little. I wasn't the least bit ashamed for people to know I cried my eyes out last fall when all that stuff went down.

support means alot to all of us who are going to compete in Pitt. I read this journal, downwith whatevers and others, don't comment if there is nothing to say. Mike, your journal has gotten more of a personal flavor lately, and that is a GREAT thing for both of you. Some people do not understand the magnitude of a competition like this, hence the drop off of competitors nearing the end. Those who make there, often have to limp there, mentally and physically. My being on stage is a cinderella story, competing in my third show against guys who have 25 years and dozens of national level show under their belts. Knowing that there are even a couple of guys and gals who have some empathy for our journey, have read about the struggles, is a tremendous lift. I really hope you guys can swing it and say a prayer that guys like baldie can realize the culmination of a life's work by being on that stage. no hijacking intended.

gman
05-25-2010, 02:43 PM
no hijacking taken, Ax

Last year's Pittsburgh show was my first show I ever attended as a spectator ( I helped out backstage at an OCB show once), and it helped me understand really what it took to get up on stage. I learned so much from setting next to Baldie as he critiqued the competitors.

We noncompetitors will definitely be there to support you guys, just make sure we trade cell numbers so we can make sure we meet.

I really plan on competing in the future, I found out this spring that you have to be 100% committed mentally and physically or it won't work. Paula is behind me 110% to compete and I am glad to have that support for when I am ready to try again

You did the math yourself. Get out of that self-defeating mindset! It's not that you were dehydrated, you just can carry more water than you think. Keep an eye on your sodium, drink dandelion tea, drink lots of water, don't over do fiber, and don't over do carbs (except veggies). You may also be eating foods that you are sensitive to. Flaxseed and soy will bloat me for a long time with no other symptoms. Oatmeal, extra that is, will only cause a day or so of bloating. Figure out your triggers.

It is frustrating in a lot of ways, not trying to be self defeating, just a realist. I will always gain weight fast, so I will always need to be on a diet of some sort. I just cannot maintain a status quo weight, it either goes up rapidly, or down slowly, depending on how closely I track things. if I want to maintain a certain weight, I will need to be anal the rest of my life about what I eat.

Shoulders 50
Chest 43
Waist 37 1/2
Hips 39 7/8
Thighs 24 1/2
Calf flexed 16 5/8
Bicep flexed 16 1/4
Forearm flexed 13 1/2

I last weighed 207 on Oct 28 and all my measurements were bigger except shoulders (the same), forearms (the same), and waist (1/2" smaller now). My chest was 1 1/4" bigger in October.

I have no idea how I weigh this much when I am smaller in almost every measurement!

If I had to guess I would say I averaged 3500 calories a day over the past 8 weeks. Many days I ate very clean.

I did splurge on weekends a lot admittedly, but shit, didn't think it was enough to put me up 25lbs this quick!

Hell yeah, that'd be sweet! If there's a dudebro weekend, it is a rule that there must be weights, and then lots of food and plenty of cold beer. And we may need to hit up a Hooters so I can look at scantily clad wimmenz.

I disavow any knowledge of a Hooters in my area... ;)

You can just go w/ us for the company, and I will blindfold you if necessary. Damn it I am going though, w/ or w/out you!

I am sure Paula will be ok with it if you blindfold me. You do need a chaperone for sure

Futon is comfy but will only sleep one...

Queen size bed will fit 2 of us

If Shadow can come, maybe he can bring an air matress or cot.

We can cram 5-7 people in my apartment with no problem if we have sleeping bags or mattresses for them.
