Guys I live near there and the farther away the cheaper it will be. Look at staying out around Hilliard. It's a 15 minute drive but it will be cheaper.

too late for me...plus I get in at midnight and just want to go from the airport to my hotel...no biggie!

I am getting really serious now...1800 calories a day is one meal for some people, and it will be my daily intake.

Take no prisoners.

here is the logic of needing to be 175

I had 172 lbs lbm at my dexascan...theoretically I could be 4% bf at 180.

I believe it's impossible not to burn off some lbm when cutting, so I figure if I lose 4lbs of lbm and end up at 168lbm, I will need to be 175 to have 4% bf.

34 lbs from now. And not much time to do it...

80% of the peeps that try this for 30 days light candles in my name. They think I walk on water. The 'cure' comes from an old
friend of Gironda, Draper and other old timers...Rheo Blaire. When you are better remember Rheo in your prayers.

Pisses me off that I can't take much of the stuff I need to take due to the damn overuse of corn in this country. Tocopherol will cause a rotten reaction because of corn. Lately I've been scouring the net for a viable B-12. Phfftt. Everything is loaded with corn!

The Vitamin E was being trashed by me...does not work. Rheos formula does. Just that my old post was on Google under Vit E for some reason.

Mikey you have to cycle your calories... give the body low calories for a day or two, then a medium calorie day then a high calorie day... and don't give it the same low days, medium day and high day each week...

this way it never knows what to expect... its what helped me drop 85 lbs and that was eating carbs and not doing 90 minutes of slow boat to china cardio... I did about 20 min of HIIT cardio every other day w/moderate intensity cardio on the non HIIT days and lifted 30-45 minutes every other day...

Trying to keep it as simple as I can...eat less, exercise more right now.

My biggest change this time has been doing the cardio at 125-130 bpm instead of 100-105 like I was doing on Dave P's plan in the spring, with little to no effect.

Cybex seated tricep extension machine: 3 sets

Palms out simultaneous db curls, standing: 4 sets
High pulley cable curls. 3 sets
Incline hammer curls: 3 sets

60 minutes on bike at 125 bpm

Stop freaking!! Everyone has it right! You're losing at a good pace, picts have to be consistent, leaner areas getting leaner can make less lean areas look worse, and keto can make you look flat. Do not panic and drop more cals and I wouldn't up cardio at this point either. This is just the start. It usually takes about 5 weeks to see changes until you're down to those last 3 months and really hit contest prep hard.

Breathe!

I have to say most of us look the same as 25 years ago...I am proud of my frat brothers for not getting way fat.

I was so tempted today but turned it all down...so far as of 6 pm I have eaten:

3 eggs and one cup of egg whites, with a fair amount of parmesan

about 5 oz of chopped pork bbq, no bun, no sauce

The guy hosting the party is a bodybuilding fan and knows I am cutting, so he will be nice about it and not push me into eating food.

Cool helps when your friends know what you need:)

My friends really push fun at all costs - fun food and alcohol
have to slow down hanging with them - do great with the food part
but enjoy a cocktail to much:p

decided sunday morning is not a good official weigh in day... 210.8

up 2.6 since Friday morning! lol

must have been the salty bbq last night of which I had about 8 oz of, and the 2 liter bottle of diet fanta orange I drank at the party. Plus I did no cardio yesterday

Going to the Y this morning to do 60-90 minutes of cardio, maybe I will sweat it out.

Just lucky I ate no carbs, who knows what I would weigh today.

Probably need to put it all in fitday and see how much I ate, probably more calories than I think.

Got negative reward for not cheating, that will teach me.

Yucky tuna. Todays recepie. Small can of low salt green beans. Marinate overnight with olive oil/Balsamic vinegar. Drain out dressing this morning and lay on 2 cans of drained no salt yucky tuna. 1/2 at 11ish and 1/2 at 2ish.

3:30 am 50gs whey, no training today...beat up. so back to sleep for another 1 1/2 hours. 7:30 my 2 yolks and 10 whites omlette with P nutt butter. Another 50 gs whey on drive to work here at 9.

Mike, 1.5 pounds over 2 weeks is fine! That's only what the scale says. Between scale error and water fluctuations it could easily be more. Keep under eating like that and you'll screw yourself in time. You shouldn't be that low until much later in the game. Stop panicking!

You'll be fine. I got Fit watching me like a hawk now on my eating plan. :) Like she told me I'm not losing weight I leaning out.

I am glad Fit is hawking you and not me, she is tough as nails!

Hey Gman, how often are you working each bodypart?I apologize if you have allready stated it. I was just wondering what most of you guys do,as in once a week or every 5 or 6 days.

Here's my split:

M-legs
T-chest
W-back
Th-shoulders
Fr-arms

also post workout cardio M-F for one hour at 125-130 bpm

Sat and Sun do the same cardio, but no lifting.

Try to do 16-20 sets per day

Mikie my man...how much muscle weight do you think you have added with the improved diet? I am down 43 fat and up 10 muscle according to my trained eye since 11 months ago. I still have 10 fat loss and plus 5 muscle to go...

I will call my doc, Allen Smolenski and talk with him about it...see what he thinks, too.

might bump to 2000 instead of 1800...2200 is definitely too high.

Waist is right at 38" now, so I have only lost 1/4-1/2" on my waist...so not just going by the scale.

I had a dexascan when I visited Allen 3 weeks ago...since my last one in April 2008, I had put on 4 lbs of muscle and 3 lbs of fat.

this is on TRT...without TRT I would be totally screwed.

lbm was measured at 172 3 weeks ago...not too good, but better than some people at 5'8"

bad news on sleep, this was in our paper today

Residents who live near Navy air strips can expect more noise starting today and lasting for about a week.

Squadrons from Oceana Naval Air Station and Norfolk Naval Station are conducting field carrier landing practice at Oceana and Fentress Auxiliary Landing Field in Chesapeake, according to Oceana spokeswoman Kelley Stirling.

The increase in air operations is in support of training and upcoming deployments. Fentress will see day and night landings; flight operations at Oceana will end at 10 p.m.

Stirling said the heavier-than-normal flight schedule will last through next Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Just have to ask this: what does starvation really mean though?

Seriously, what do bodybuilders do who are at 20% like I am...it seems they have a much easier time than I do...or maybe they just stretch the truth...it makes me sick to see guys say they eat 3000 and do no cardio during a cut. I really don't know what the answer is.

Also you have to factor in clen, T3 and 600-800mgs of test, plus anavar in some people...of course they can eat more!

My definition is 1000 calories a day. Others may think 2000....what is the right answer?

I am not sure, just asking it rhetorically.

Allen says at our age, it just takes so much less food to maintain our weight, and we have to do what we have to do...plus I sit on my ass all day except when at the gym!

musclegoddess65
10-27-2009, 03:49 PM
well there is your answer... T3, clen, test and anavar :)

starvation... just means when you start cutting calories so low and upping cardio so high, your body is hanging on to every morsel you give it because it has no idea what the fuck your doing to it...

back in the caveman day our bodies were programmed to hold onto everything because it (the body) never knew when the next meal was coming - sadly it takes many years for our bodies to adjust to modern times - so when we start slashing calories to the bear bones and then adding in tons of cardio on top of it, the body HAS to have something to survive so it will keep everything... and I am not a DR nor do I play one on TV its only my .02

gman
10-27-2009, 03:55 PM
My body is in that mode before I even start cutting, so I am totally screwed...

I think a lot of it has to do with my totally sedentary life outside of the gym

Lots of guys doing this are trainers or blue collar workers who move all day long, so they can eat more.

Not sure if this is making any sense or if I am just rationalizing.

Bullshit. You don't give diets much of a chance. Between regular cheats in the past, under eating, and impatience you drop cals and end up very hungry, irritable, and frustrated. Our bodies do not turn on a dime. It can take weeks to see progress in the mirror. And the scale! It's been proven over and over to be a liar. You want results in your problem areas too fast! Talk to any woman who wanted to lose thigh fat. It takes freaking time to see progress! Even if your metabolism is sluggish your maintenance would still be on the order of 2700 cals. But there's no way to really know your maintenance as when you aren't trying to lean out you aren't exactly on point with diet to maintain.

I'm 5'4", weight about 110#, maybe 90# of lbm, hypothyroid, menopausal, and sit on my ass all day. I'll slowly lean out at 1750 cals.

I also think you should change your routine and get off the one body part a day routine. Shock your body with something like a 3-day split done 4x week, or a two day split done 2x week. Get a good hour of lifting in with little rest. Get out of your rut! Burn more calories while lifting.

Honestly, some of this seems to be a psychological backup for the failure you're truly expecting or maybe hoping for so you can have one of those cheat meals again. Stop the negative internal banter. Breaking bad food habits is hard. Put the blame where it belongs.

the blame is eating too much pure and simple.

I had my resting metabolic rate tested at 1940 calories

Add 700 for exercise and life

so yes Pam is correct, about 2700 maintenance.

I want to lose 1.75 lbs a week, so I have to go 6125 a week under, or 875 deficit a day

2700-875= 1825

I would love anyone to explain how that is too low, I even used Pam's number. Yes, maybe if I had no date picked, I would want to lose slower, but I do have a date and it's only 18 weeks away.

I am not going to fail, quit or let anything keep me from getting to 4% bf for this contest...so the psychological problems of the past are over.

Talk theory all you want, those are the hard and cold facts.

gman
10-27-2009, 04:44 PM
the split, yes maybe I will change that. Need to talk to my trainer about that...I already have cut my rest times down a lot between sets to try to burn more calories, but maybe there is a better way.

On the cardio, I honestly don't think I can go much harder...I had the damn bike set on level 12 today and still could hardly get my heart rate above 125-130. I was exhausted at the end.

PS, don't want a fucking cheat meal either! It would set me back too much...I have worked too hard to blow it on pizza

freebirdmac
10-27-2009, 04:50 PM
It's too low as you're only counting on diet to do this, short changing your nutrition way too far out, and risk losing muscle mass. Your body may very well like to partition cals towards fat rather than muscle. All the more reason to get out of your comfort zone with your lifting routine to keep your current mass as well as burn more cals doing so. You use a less drastic calorie deficit to help you hold on to that lbm and dump the bf instead. A solid ass kicking hour of weights in the gym plus some good cardio and no cheating on the diet will get the bf off. You'll be saner with more energy to boot. Where you're at now you'll need a wheelchair and stims to get to the Arnold.

700 cals for exercise and life? That's gotta be wrong. I burn about 1100 just with 4 lifting sessions and one cardio session. It doesn't include the rest of my life. Your deficit should be much larger than you think.

Don't make the mistake of trying to use your weight training to help you burn calories and get cut. That is what cardio is for. Your weight training sessions are to build muscle mass (and towards the end of contest prep to try to maintain muscle mass). Competitors often make the mistake of turning their weight training into a circuit/interval session in an attempt to get lean. To me, that's a big mistake.

In regards to a cheat meal, if you are doing a keto diet, you should definitely utilize a weekly cheat meal for your thyroid. Even if you aren't doing a strict keto diet, a cheat meal is a great metabolism stimulator.

Note to self:

Never get on Freebird's bad side. With that being said I can completely agree with you. All the times I have tried to lose weight I am always looking for the excuse to stop and say "See I can't do it". Now with the contest I know I have to do it and have been able to do it. The first 40 pounds were easy, I know the next 40 will need work and discipline.

I know FBG...I have always had a fear of succeeding for some reason...this time I will overcome it.

I also know that 20% bf at my age is pretty healthy, and that the closer I get to 15, 10 and 5%, the tougher it's going to get.

Pam has seen this pic, but this is me at 193 a couple of years ago, almost my lowest since starting lifting in 2005.

I was all the way to there and I gave up, not going to do it this time, I will kill myself on the stairstepper doing cardio before I give up this time.

Mike I wear a hr monitor when I lift, just because I'm a freaking geek. All of my routines from the start have been geared towards gaining mass. I can see that after two weeks on a new routine that my cal expenditure drops. Adaptation has already set in. Not with regards to mass gains, but cal expenditure. It takes another 8 weeks or so to feel that a routine change is needed. Not just swapping out exercises, we do that all along, but making some sort of significant change. Could be something like reps or sets or split. I can also see the benefits of multi-part training in terms of more cals burned. Again my routines are always geared towards mass gains. When bulking it means I need to eat more. When leaning out it means more fat loss. There are a lot of multi-body part mass gaining routines out there.

If you are missing something in tracking your diet fix it now. You shouldn't be guessing or ignoring your intake. You're too vulnerable. Both physically and psychologically.

Besides the scale changes, are you still seeing measurement changes? Do keep track of your leaner areas. If you're losing there you are losing in your problem areas too.

Yes! You need to come over to NN to workout! I need to get past the World Series first. I'm losing tons of sleep watching the post season games and using the weekend to try and catch up :D

I am not guessing on the food, but when I have a bad day it is usually because I kept the peanut butter jar nearby...everything else is measured to the T. I stopped keeping the peanut butter nearby after the first week, if you do an extra 2 tbsp in a day by absent mindedness, you just blew the whole day! Lesson learned. Everything else is easy to do: 2 scoops of whey, 1 cup of egg whites, 3 large eggs, 5 oz chicken breast, pouch of tuna...all of those are pretty idiot proof. I even tear the chicken breasts apart an bunch them how I need to to get 5 oz portions!

I have measured my leaner areas and they are losing too. Doc says you lose everywhere the same rate, but it shows up faster in your lean areas because there is not as much to lose...my arms are down under 16.5" already, a 1/2" drop. my chest is down an inch already. Waist only 1/2" though.

Scared to measure my thighs and calves, maybe tomorrow morning just to see.

My thighs were really small when I leaned out last time...all the way down to 23 1/2" from 25 1/4"

It's all good...I will get there this time...I have lots of support.

I won;t even watch the WS, my team got destroyed just now...the Dodgers.

Just let me know and I can come on a Saturday and do back or chest. Or something completely different depending on if I change my splits.

DB shrugs with 100 lb dbs's: 20 20 16 17
Palumbo's rear delt db exercise, hard to describe, used a 55lb db: 4 sets of 15 each side
Overhand bb rows with 225: 8 8 7
Underhand bb rows with 225: 6 5 6
DB rows, both hands at same time, 90 lb db's: 8 8 10
Cybex back extension machine: 10/210 10/230 10/230

60 minutes of cardio, no heart rate showed up, I must be a zombie.

Tough today, definitely losing strength, especially on bb rows.

I wanted to put up my measurements for Pam...I have lost a lot of size all over, probably mainly from keto, which makes you shed the water.

Here are the measurements from this morning vs September 18 which was the last time I did full measurements:

Weight: 207 vs 215 (down 8)
Neck: 16 3/4 vs 17 (down 1/4)
Shoulders: 50 vs 51 (down 1)
Chest: 44 1/2 vs 45 3/8 (down 7/8)
Waist: 38 vs 38 3/4 (down 3/4)
Hips: 40 1/2 vs 41 (down 1/2)
Thigh: 24 3/4 vs 25 (down 1/4)
Calf, flexed: 17 vs 17
Bicep flexed: 16 3/8 vs 16 3/4 (down 3/8)
Forearm flexed: 13 1/2 vs 13 3/4 (down 1/4)

Ironically the one body part I have done no work on it almost 2 years is the one that has stayed the same, my calves.

DB rows, both hands at same time, 90 lb db's: 8 8 10
Cybex back extension machine: 10/210 10/230 10/230

60 minutes of cardio, no heart rate showed up, I must be a zombie.

Tough today, definitely losing strength, especially on bb rows.

Wanted to quit cardio at 25 minutes, but pushed on.

Nice work, even though the diet was sapping your strength.

I looked back at my bodyspace on bbing.com....in Feb of 2008 when I was 206, my chest was only 42 and my shoulders were 48, so I have put on some size up top.

I would kill for a sweet potato with butter, brown sugar and cinnamon right now.

Probably would gain 2lbs from an 8 oz serving though.

I love you too pal....I would tell me to fuck off personally. Now, on the other hand, I won't have anymore real carbs until probably Sunday night except veggies.

That being said....I am down 3/4 inch on the gut. No idea on the weight because I just don't care yet.

good job on the waist...if you are down 3/4 in the gut, you probably lost a lot elsewhere too.

I may have to start worrying a bit soon.

I wanted to put up my measurements for Pam...I have lost a lot of size all over, probably mainly from keto, which makes you shed the water.

Here are the measurements from this morning vs September 18 which was the last time I did full measurements:

Weight: 207 vs 215 (down 8)
Neck: 16 3/4 vs 17 (down 1/4)
Shoulders: 50 vs 51 (down 1)
Chest: 44 1/2 vs 45 3/8 (down 7/8)
Waist: 38 vs 38 3/4 (down 3/4)
Hips: 40 1/2 vs 41 (down 1/2)
Thigh: 24 3/4 vs 25 (down 1/4)
Calf, flexed: 17 vs 17
Bicep flexed: 16 3/8 vs 16 3/4 (down 3/8)
Forearm flexed: 13 1/2 vs 13 3/4 (down 1/4)

Ironically the one body part I have done no work on it almost 2 years is the one that has stayed the same, my calves.

Mike those numbers are really good for just a tad over a month!! The fact that your thigh only went down 1/4" versus 3/4" for your waist and 7/8" for your chest is great. It's coming off proportionately. Keep it up and don't panic!

I will be in bed by 9:30 or 10 every night. I really can't go without sleep anymore...this diet is brutalizing me, and I need all the sleep I can get!

If it were the Dodgers I would go ahead and suffer and stay up til 1 am, but not for the Phillies and Yankees!

kevin got on my shit list big time in the health insurance thread, so I put him on ignore where he belongs...

I basically told him to go f himself, which I later edited out.

I put him on ignore, and didn't even read his response to my post.

Yeah, I have a love/hate relationship with him--he can be really funny when he's not being obnoxious.

Kevin and I get along fine, as long as the talk is far,far away from politics! He's almost as bad as my Ayn Rand loving best friend :) GBG doesn't bother me. Kimberly and now ctrainer otoh bug me to no freaking end. Be glad know it all/nothing to show Miranda from the female forums doesn't go into the OV35 area. Sometimes it's so hard to be nice :)
