Yes that's how they work for pull exercises
for push you do the opposite basically like a reg. gloves
I liked using them a lot:)

I wish you were here to make my meals...I have a very boring meal plan compared to that. Whey, eggs and egg whites, whey, chicken and pb, tuna and pb, whey. Blah, blah, blad.

If everyone else joins the Versa Grip cult, I may have to break down and get some. I sure like my bad ass straps with the flaming skulls though!

probably is not a bad idea to front load the cals a little like that. It is your first meal, so your body needs the fuel. Plus it starts you out on a good amount and you don't have so much pressure to catch up later.

don't short yourself on your preworkout meal

Thanks all great ideas - I tend to feel under pressure when I have to many cals left for the day and since I workout after work - that gets shorted sometimes. Eating something on the way home from work helps since I drive 45 mins home.

You definitely want to take in more cals in the earlier part of the day if you can. When I'm in pre contest mode, my biggest caloric meal of the day is my breakfast. Each meal there after has less and less cals.

Well, I work out about 5pm and my eating accelerates as the day goes on. I'll get a little over half of my cals in prior to working out, but I eat almost constantly right up until bedtime.

What's important is pre- and post-workout and then total cals for the day. How you distribute the rest of the cals depends on what you need in your body prior to pre- and after post-workout meals. Everyone is a little bit different. But there are no witching hours. I'll even eat oatmeal right before bed.

Actually, there are witching hours...lol. Fat burn and mass building is about hormones. At night your insulin sensitivity decreases, meaning your body must release more insulin than usual to put any carbohydrates you eat at night to use in the body. You may not be aware, but higher insulin levels can decrease fat-burning and enhance fat storage. In addition, the body naturally produces a fat-liberating hormone called Growth Hormone(GH) within the first 90 minutes of sleep.

GH not only increases fat-burning but is needed to build mass. Carbs, however, decrease GH release. Therefore, it's best to either go to bed on an empty stomach or after consuming a last meal consisting of only protein (my recommendation). This allows blood glucose to remain low, which causes the increase in nocturnal GH production.

What to have before bed? I would recommend a casein shake, low fat cottage cheese, egg whites, or chicken breast.

OK Blu...here goes my thoughts on a suppliment plan for you to consider. First off Bodybuilding for women is not my bag although I have trained 3 women (2 natural and one taking male horemones), married twice, 2 daughters your age and 3 grand daughters. So I have a wee bit of girlie exposure. I believe that women after age 45 do way better at natural Bodybuilding than their younger sisters due to a better estrogen/testosterone balance. Way too much estrogen for the younger women. I also believe that the leaner you are (does not mean skinny....I'm talking about having plenty of muscle) the higher your natural testosterone. I will stick to supplimentation.
1. Vitamin/mineral suppliment. Vitamine Shoppe (you have them in your city) Ultimate Woman Daily Pack. Take WITH food. 1 pack a day.
2. Added Vit D3 1,000iu
3. Added Calcium 1 gram
4. Xtend is OK
5. Kre 5mg serving per day
6. If you need to keep calories up Muscle Milk. Whey plus 4gm sugar per scoop. If not then I like most zero carb wheys. ON is a good brand. I'm guessing you need 150 grams protein every day. Suppliment the whey as needed to reach that minimum.
7. fish oils about 4 capsules per day
8. Natures Life Lipotropic Complex. 1 tablet 3 x day. You may need to Google to find your local store or order it over the net. My secret fat burner and liver clense.
9. have some xtra coin in your purse? If so I would reccomend Coenzyme Q10 and Resveratrol. Over all health/vascular tonics.

I do not have a falling to sleep problem. I use those 3 specific aminos I mentioned to stimulate natural HGH from my tired pituitary gland while I sleep. I would do a micro injection HGH protocol from one of those life extension clinics Vegas and L.A. have so many of if I had an xtra $600-1000 a month to blow and did not have a Melanoma cancer history.

All very doable suggestions and not as complicated as I thought...must of been the late reading I did that made it seem that way.
It's cool that for once being 45 is a benefit:)

Will check out Natures Life Lipotropic Complex - one of my biggest worries is staying lean - I put weight on fast -
Diet has been perfect and still working my way up to maintenance and I have had a steady upward gain since - up 4 lbs since starting as this morning.
Not worried ...yet - I like the changes I am seeing and feeling

Workout - Shoulders
Mike had me do circuit training tonight - it killed

one set at a time with no rest in between until the whole circuit is done, in which case you rest 2 minutes, and start the circuit over, do 4 complete circuits.

Front raise with a plate

DB shoulder presses

Hammer grip laterals

close grip upright rows with bar

regular lateral raises.

Looks like a good Thursday!!! Ummmm, where's the extra 51 calories? :D

You could buy some rice cakes and spread thin layer of PB or SF jam on them for a tasty 50-100 calorie snack.

I may steal Mike's shoulder circuit for tonight!

do your best, if it is extremely hard, just do 20.

just got to get you used to it...once your brain figures out which muscles to use to do the pullup, you will be surprised how easy they might get.

The good tip that helped me was from old supe, he told me to try to make my chest go up and touch the bar, it forced me to pull with my back instead of my arms.

Get the blood work now. Schedule the ultrasound for after the first of the year. That way if you need meds you don't lose 2-3 months. And suffer from any needless weight gain :)

I am convinced the thyroid meds are helping me at least somewhat....you need to get checked...and remember what I said...get a copy of the lab report.

Doctors and especially the staff are very good at just calling and saying your results are "normal". Normal in thyroid tests is very subjective.

I agree. I heard more horror stories from endos than PCPs for thyroid. All you need is a blood draw for a full panel, including antibodies. Since you already have a goiter you probably have high antibodies. My TSH was 11 and I was subclinical. Don't know how long it had been that high. Three months later I had symptoms. Easier weight gain, fatigue, and more sensitivity to cold being the main ones.

Get an appointment with your internist. If your TSH is over 3-4 get on meds.

Don't sweat that gain. You will still be 200 cals below maintenance. Even with a thyroid problem most of the gains are water. You can try incorporating dandelion and asparagus into your diet. However I suspect your muscles are filling out nicely. You're probably not looking as flat. At 1800 I do not gain easily. And I am not as active as you. Bloating is part of this metabolism repair game. Getting an appetite back is a good sign. Getting to the "I'm starving" phase will mean it's fired back up. Just ignore the damn scale and make that appointment!

You have been under eating for how long? Where did that get you? How much progress have you made lately? Even when leaning out carbs aren't bad. You naturally have to cut back on everything to reduce cals, but you don't have to go below 100g. Unlike some people, you're not going to have cheat days or cheat meals that undo several days to a week of dieting :D
Once you get your carbs back up to reasonable levels your body will adapt to having them and you won't have the bloating you get now.

I want to read some time tomorrow that you have made that doctor's appointment!

We've gotta change your attitude on carbs! This week don't get your extra cals from protein, get them from carbs! They really aren't evil
I agree with Pam; carbs are not evil!

You have been under eating for how long? Where did that get you? How much progress have you made lately? Even when leaning out carbs aren't bad.

I changed trainers and my attitude toward carbohydrates. Carbs give you energy to function and do well in the gym. Enjoy this phase; eat, train, recover, repair your metabolism and grow muscle.

I have made great progress ...I love the changes
Going to try and get one for my day off the week after Thanksgiving:)

Love the phase ...hate the jeans
did realize today the tightness is really in the legs - and I know I already have bulky legs - my shirts seem loser in the torso and tighter in the upper chest/arm/shoulder area
all good things:)

I told you to look for signs of leaning out! Loser shirts in the torso is an indicator! The tightening in the upper chest and legs is muscle pump and even some muscle growth. Both are great indicators of an improved metabolism! :shake:

Do not worry about the bulky legs! Eventually you can work on fat loss and overcome muscle gains and muscle pump. Making them smaller. Let's get you "fixed" first and on some thyroid meds (freezing all the time and enlarged thyroid tells me you need them).

I went through a very short bulking cycle and had to get accustomed to my legs getting "bigger", but I didn't gain in my waist.

You're doing well; stay the course!

You both were right .
I am so self defeating sometimes it pisses me off.

Work out - Legs

Squats x 4 sets

Stiff leg dead lifts x 4 sets

Bulgarian split squats X 4 sets of 20 on each leg ( these are killers )

DB stationary lunges X 2 sets ( this was suppose to be 4 sets after 2 sets I got shaky and couldn't finish )

Ate a banana and a tablespoon of PB and felt a little better in about 10 mins but by then my quads felt toasted so did not finish up lunges

Leg curls x 3 sets

Not sure if it's just the lack of food today or the natural water pills I got
either way I screwed myself 2 weeks in a row on leg day

Actually a high carb meal can help get rid of water. It can take a few days, but it works. So can drinking extra water for a day.

Blu, you need to read up on this site http://www.whfoods.com/foodstoc.php. Good carbs provide a lot of very good nutrients to the body. You can even search for various health conditions and see what foods may help.

You probably got a headache from lack of sufficient water. Your bloating isn't excessive water, it's putting back what belonged there. The pills dried you out too much. You don't need those pills!
