Just met Branch Warren [Archive]

I just met Branch Warren at the 2009 Elite Muscle Classic in Greensboro NC.

I was there to support John P, our sponsored bodybuilder, who made an excellent showing despite his contest prep being derailed 12 weeks out by a motorcycle accident. After being laid up for a month and rehabbing the injured leg, he resumed training and did us all proud in the Heavyweight Class.

Branch is an awesome guy, autographing a magazine for my wife, a DVD for my son, and taking not one but TWO pictures with me when my camera messed up on the first try.

He took the time to talk to every single person in line and really get to know them a little. He gave me tips on back training and was incredibly gracious about compliment and congratulations for his Olympia placing.

I did ask him about the moment when Bob Chic announced "Congratulations to our NEW Mr. Olympia..." and Branch said,

"My heart stopped bro, for a second there I thought I'd done it...."

Branch is definitely atop my list of celebrities who are down to earth and great people.

I'm 6'5", but I didn't ask him how tall he was. I figure since his quad circumference is probably the same as my height, I should keep my trap shut. :)

Branch is a great guy. I see him all the time and hes always helping people out regardless of if they are bodybuilders or just someone getting started. Only time you really wouldnt wanna talk to him is in the middle of his workout. NO ONE speaks to him then lol. Other than that hes always gracious and approachable. He is a quiet guy most of the time and somtimes people take that the wrong way but hes a good dude!!

That's the exact vibe I got from him.

I might be tall, but man when I saw him for the first time, that quote from Rocky III jumped into my head when Mickey said, "I seen some wrestlers as big as DINOSAURS!"

That is the response I always hear about Branch. He does come accross as a great guy. It is nice to see a few good guys in between all the egos out there.

Bro me and girlymuscle saw Branch in Houston and you know he lives in Dallas. She got to speak with him at the Arnold and I see him around here occasionaly. Can you believe the thickness on him at his height?? No wonder he is second in the world.

Without a doubt. Muscles means nothing.
Don't get me wrong i wouldn't mind being big and ripped but only if i'm high.
Short and beefed makes you look even shorter.

Met him in June, Asked him probably half/dozen questions, answered all of them in depth, no one word answers, actually explained stuff to me, took a few pics. Signed a pic for me. Polite, down to earth, hard working guy. Nothing but respect for Branch.

In person, it is just OBSCENE how freaking thick he is. Pictures do NOT do justice when it comes to this guy.

Not the whole thing, but most of it. We had an athlete in the novice Heavyweights.

I was impressed by the fitenss competitors who kept doing their routines without missing a beat even when the sound system crapped out. :)

Not me. If I decide I want to take second at the O, I'll stay at my height, clean up my diet, train a little harder, turn back the hands of time, requisition entirely new genetics... just a few simple fixes

I had 2 friends that competed in the show, one of them was the 1st place in the middleweight and the other took third in the heavyweight. They competed in the Novice class

Hey, sue me. I still have the "fan boy fever" at age 47. Probably the mayor of bodybuilding has me beat, but it's very cool - from my perspective - to meet the pros.

I had a Polaroid taken with Arnold in 1989 and that was like meeting...

And I took a digital snapshot with Ronnie Coleman at this year's NPC Maryland and it was still that same feeling. These are not your average cats. It's like a page from a bodybuilding history book in the flesh. Impressive to some, inconsequential to others.

Branch is no doubt the people's champion. He does not have the most aesthetic physique but he makes up for it with work ethic. He has to be in the top 2 as for hardest working bodybuilder. I am very happy for him in his placing at the Mr. O

Back when Branch first got his column in MD he had a picture where he was just sitting down and hitting a semi most muscular. That picture floored me and I could not believe he was not already a Mr. O. I mentioned it on MD and said that one day he was going to be a Mr. Olympia or come damned close to it. Meeting him is also meeting a page in BBing history.
