Just got back from CVS. Sneaky marketing...chocolate in the same isle as Midol. Fuckers. I didn't buy any. Instead I came back to gym and popped a double dose of Midol. Mood should change in about 20-30 minutes. I bought extra strength. ;)

Lol! That really is some sneaky marketing! What I want to know is why has it taken retailers so long? Hell they should put chocolate and salty snacks on the tampon aisle :D

I don't know how old you are, but did you know PMS can really worsen in your 40's? It's part of perimenopause. But it does get better! I promise!

I'm in a mood the last two days. Yes, you can call it PMS. And with that goes up the scale and down the mood. Add in all the training, work, etc and I'm just an unmotivated crybaby bitch. (And TMI...it's a fuking week early)

last two days???:p

Your doing great Erin, you can bitch, complain, mone, whatever, but in the end, you are getting it done and we are all proud of you.

You are one person I've avoided bitching to. If there's anything that makes a PMSy woman worse it's a pep talk. I really didn't want to have to tell you to go to hell. :flowers:

I'm 46. My period has never been regular. Add in contest prep, off season stuff, body fat up and down...my body doesn't know what the hell to do anymore. Midol certainly fixed the crankies today. I'm feeling much better.

LOL...that's just women. The best thing to do with a PMSy woman is let her alone and don't say anything. And NEVER...I repeat NEVER suggest she's just PMSing. Pep talks do not help either. Happy does not help. "Positive thoughts" do not help. Only Midol...not suggested by you...helps.

GirlyMuscle

Me and my crampy belly are going to bed. BTW...a crampy belly does need rubbing. And a low back rub for good measure. That should soothe the savage beast (the woman). That'll make the beast purr like a kitten.

Good night all.

^^That's a very good idea.

I took Midol the minute I woke up today. I was doing just fine until I drove to work and had to deal with the idiots out there on the roads.

My facebook status...

My goodness, people, it's just a little snow! Use some commonsense!

If you can't drive more than 3 mph in the snow, Mr Florida tags, Maybe you should park your Mustang Convertible.

Mr Fourwheeler, tailgating me in snow is just asking for trouble.

Miss Pedestrian, if you don't want to be hit by a sliding car then walk on the sidewalks and not down the middle of the 5th Street.

Mr Pedestrian, if you're going to cross against the traffic lights then at least wait until there are no moving cars coming at you.

But...I got here safe and sound so I'm over it. :)

nah...I'm fine. My coworker Rachel brought me a hazelnut coffee and I took my second dose of Midol for the day.

I wore my pink Australian Ugg boots to work today. I'm not changing out of them either. Pants are all tucked in. I look quite fashionable and my toes are toasty warm. Between my Uggs and watching the end of Crocodile Dundee II this morning, I'm missing Australia today. And that big hairy bald headed bloke I stayed with while I was there. :(

I hate when women wear those things in southern California. Drives me nuts.

Ugg. lol...see the pun? I woke sick as a dog at 6am. Could decide what to do first...sit or throw up. Throw up won. Then I got the runny other end. Went back to bed and slept until 11am. Not feeling too bad now...stomach quieted down. Still have the other end going on and I'm really tired. My mom said there's some sort of stomach bug going around. I'm sticking to the diet but decided not to train today and rest up. I have to work at 4pm.

Weigh in tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed for me. :)

Sandra scored 4 new sets of scrubs. She's so funny...she used to be a size 6XL. So she goes to the 4XL rack. I pulled out 3XLs and 2XLs. I was right. She'll in regular XLs in no time. Then she'll get to drop the X...heehee

I also introduced her to sushi and sashimi. She loved it.

My arse is sore today. OH! And Sandra did 1010 lbs on the leg press for 3 reps. Unfortunately, my video cam was not on but i did catch the 960lb set.

So...here's a little story for y'all...

I left work at 6pm because we have a blizzard going on and I had no more clients. I got home at 7pm and Sandra said, hey, mo problem, I'll drive to the gym. We only live about 1 mile apart and the gym is about 1 1/2 miles from me. She's used to New England weather so this is nothing to her. Yeah, tell her car that. Her Pennsylvania car which doesn't have 4 wheel drive decided it doesn't want to go up the big unplowed hill in front of my house so now she's stranded here until the roads get plowed. If the road gets plowed before 9pm we're heading to the gym. If not, we'll wait until it does before she goes home.

hey, coach...we tried! Not sure if our bicep/ab workout is gonna happen tonight!

No hijack....snow is the big deal in our area. It's still coming down steady. There was sleet and stuff earlier but it's all snow now. Visibility was the worst part. I actually drove a coworker home before I got home. As much as I complain about my little Sebring breaking down these day she was a champ in the snow. Got me home in about an hour...usually takes 15-20 minutes but like I said I did detour a little. That was at 6-7pm. The forecasters are calling for 10-12 inches so far. Plows still haven't come down my street and I live on a main thoroughfare in town. I don't start work until noon so my only concern is getting out to do cardio in the am. Guess I could shovel snow and call it cardio. :(

I have tendinitis and arthritis in my hands and wrists and bicep training always makes my forearms hurt. Bad hurt not good hurt. I muscled through it. Didn't get abs done because the gym was closing but I did manage 3 x25 of incline sit ups. Who the hell does sit ups anymore these days? I thought that was supposed to be bad for your back?

Cooking fishies right now. I ran out of my usual Mrs Dash seasoning so I'm trying fajita flavor....on white fish. :dunno:

i found preacher db less painful
also leaning forward some doing ez bar curls
let's see hammer curls i could not do at all even with super light wt
curl on bicep free motion with elbows forward weren't to bad

i get pain in my wrists now and find on heavier wt if i wrap my wrists it isn't as bad

I had it last off season from jan til june had mri's went to orthopedics nothing helped Well going to massage therapist and having the forearms stripped did help more than anything

Seems you just need to keep trying diff exercises or change angle a bit and that does help some

A new week starts tomorrow, let's make this the best week yet, all starts with the attitude, stay positive, just focus on the moment. Are you doing the best you can at the current moment giving everything you got going on at the moment? That is all that matters, sometimes the best you can do is 85% and sometimes it's 100% but if you give it your best effort everyday, in the end, you will be rewarded. With commitment comes reward! I know you hate pep talks, but I don't care, cause I like them.:)

It has been well established your coach is an asshole

but my advice would be if it hurts, don't do it, find something else that works, I am guessing that when your coach writes out the program he bases it off of what he thinks your muscles need vs what injuries you may have. if it hurts, don't do it.

Walking lunges killed my knees yesterday but I did them. Lying Leg curls 100 reps certainly humbled me. I tried starting at 50 pounds and by the time I got to 20 pounds I'd only done 30. I quit, swore, let Sandra do hers (she kicked my ass) and then did 100 at a pussified 10 pounds. Doesn't help matters that the bend on the bench that's supposed to fit where I bend naturally at the hips hits me in the middle of the rib cage. Hey, not everyone is taller 5'3". LOL

Still no contest date. If they hold it the same weekend as last year then this past Saturday would be 15 weeks out. With no notice of a date at this point, I'll bet attendance will be quite low. There is another show within driving distance (Philly) in June...two weeks after Jr Nats. Downside is I hate traveling to visit friends and be in prep. Puts a downer on the visit. Ya know what...you're right. My situation is not unique. Lots of 46 yr old single women work 50+ hours a week and try to compete in bodybuilding. You're also right in prioritizing my life. well, I don't know about all that, there is a time and place for everything in life, if your a bodybuilder, sometimes it is time to focus in 100%, be selfish and make things happen, other times it is time to step back and rebalance your life. I know that when it is all done, it is worth it, that has been my experience.

Gerb
02-03-2011, 11:56 PM
Gee I thought that's what a coach did. adjust the training/diet to the individual and their requirement in sport and life and personality because everyone and their situation, motivation is unique.
Otherwise a couch could just stick to a generic diet and training plan for everyone. And that's not a coach. That's an information supplier.
Heck I could just take my coaches plan he gave me, a 45 year old bloke working 12 hour shifts and give it to a stay at home mom of 24 with 3 kids to look after and except the same results.

to an extent, of course, but in the end, if my coach says, Stephen, you gotta do 2x 45mins cardio sessions a day, he doesn't give a damn how I make it happen and isn't going to listen to me cry him a river over my busy life, he simply expects I will balance things out and make it happen. Erin has alot of different issues which require us to work around and I gotta come up with all sorts of options for her. She is suppose to walk every morning, she can't, her feet. So we adapt. Sometimes her work schedule of back to back shifts screws up her diet and we gotta adapt. And we do. Erin is doing a great job and is right on track this prep. The coach/athlete relationship is about a team and that relationship, that is what makes it work. That is my experience. Erin is free to fire me when she sees fit and I will go back to just being a friend and supporter of her cause I think she is awesome. but until then, I'll continue to kick her in the pants and push her to be the best she can be.

erin at the end of the day you are the only one that lives in your skin and walks in your shoes. and if you decide not to compete then that decision effects you and no one else.

one thing i have learned helping people prep for shows is the expectations and drive i have for myself as a competitor doesnt always jive w the person i am prepping. i have the whatever it takes attitude. probably a bad thing. so i assume others hav ethe same stance. i have people tell me i cant eat fish, don t like this and that and basically hate all the pre contest foods. when i eat what im told and stfu bc i know it will get me to my goal.

what i am trying to get at is its up to you how deep you wanna dig and what you are willing to sacrafice to get to your goal. no need to justify your feelings.

Erin I hope that foot heals too, but having known many a runner that dealt with PF issues.... it takes staying off of it and sadly I know you can't do that......I'm gonna message my friend Lori, and IronMan and marathon racer who is stubborn and see what she did to help hers.... I know she had some special weird sock she wore at night that was of some help.... and I'm sure you've searched for remedies/cures too.....

Ya know what...you're right. My situation is not unique. Lots of 46 yr old single women work 50+ hours a week and try to compete in bodybuilding. You're also right in prioritizing my life. Maybe I have my priorities all messed up. I mean, I really shouldn't be making bbing the number one priority in my life. Maybe it's time to live in the real world and make some changes.

This is the reason I think BB is one of the toughest things to do in the world. The lifting weights is the easy part but the mental aspect can just destroy a person. Best of luck to you and stay strong, we are all here to support you.

I'm moving forward as if I'm still competing. As long as my body holds up I will. I did all my cardio 2 x 45 min and biceps, traps and abs today. My knees were hurting so much I semi-limped all day but I made it. Had an open cheat meal tonight meaning anything I wanted. I treated the family to a Superbowl spread.

I had...

3 slices of pizza
about 10 boneless wings
a handful of tortilla chips with bean/cheese dip
3 coors lights (really wanted Kilkenny but it's unavailable in PA)

Watched the first half of the Superbowl and the halftime show. I thought the sound for the halftime show sucked ass. I couldn't hear the music...only the singers.

Then I made homemade doughnuts. OMG! They are so freakin good! I ate 3 and I'm stuffed. Cheat finished.

The spread and the doughnuts.

Went for a job interview today. Starbucks. I thought I could find one full time job instead of two part time. Figured if I could just get in the door I could move up to management. I have tons of experience in management. Interview went fine. There is possibility of promotion within 6 months. Pay rate to start...ready for this...$7.60 an hour. Next step would be shift supervisor and then Assistant Store manager. Asst Mgrs make $9 an hour. Hell, I make that now training the random client and cleaning gym equipment at PF. I make about $10 an hour waiting tables at Applebees. Manager said she'd call in 2 weeks one way or the other. I've already decided to pass.

Started taking glucosamine/condroitin/msm. Can't tell if it's doing anything but I'm sure it takes time. Joints aren't too bad today. Feet are. My new sneaks feel great but standing on my feet all day just flares up the PF. Did my first cardio at 4:30am and the second one at noon right after work. I just knew if I didn't get it in then it would be next to impossible by 5pm. As it is I had to switch equipment to get through the entire 45 mins. Trained Hams and Glutes with Sandra at 4pm. I took a 2 hour nap this afternoon and still felt really tired when I got up but wouldn't ya know it I got a second wind now. Figures.

I decided to rent movies in order to do cardio at home. I'll probably join netflix but in the meantime I stopped at Blockbuster and picked up two rentals. I got Alice in Wonderland with Johnny Depp. Yeah, typical woman...there's just something absolutely dreamy and yummy about that man....even in goofy makeup. I saw a scene from the movie at a friend's house and it looked really good. Cinematography and all that rot. So I'll give it a whirl. Second movie I rented is The Expendables. Just about every action hero actor ever in that one...again, all yummy. Gimme hot guys blowing shit up, shooting shit up, car chases and I'm hooked to the scene. More yummy.

After these two, I'm open to suggestions. My favorite movies are action flicks first, then comedies, including romantic comedies, then dramas depending what it is and who is in it. Oh and kid movies. I love kid movies...easy entertainment. I prefer either Pixar, Disney...that sort of thing.

Yeah, I didn't think of that. They don't really have a big selection though do they? I could be wrong. Netflix seems like it might work but if I'm going through a movie a day during cardio they better ship fast. I'll have to keep it circulating constantly to have one delivered every day.

If you have a new XBOX or PS3 you can get the feed for Netflix through the wireless. With this option some of the newer movies are not available but they still have plenty to watch.

Redbox is good as well but it really helps to save them online because waiting till you get there the good ones can be gone.

That was nice because there are no licensing issues with MP3s. Apple makes the iPod thing too hard for me to understand. I love my MP3 player but it only holds 512 cards so not much music. On the good side, Rhapsody has unlimited downloads for $9.99 a month. So I might just invest in some 512 cards and make a cardio card, a lifting card, etc and go back to the MP3 player.

When you get songs from other people, they have to authorize you. So she needs to give you her password. The way it works you're able to authorize 5 computers for your tunes. This keeps the music business somewhat happy in that their music isn't being distributed royalty free.

Rest the hiney for 3-4 days but after that the next time on the bike won't be as bad. :)

In about a week and a half you'll be quite used to the bike. Just make sure that the seat isn't set too high for the distance to the pedals. This is a problem sometimes for us shorties!

Still no iPod wisdom though....

So far here's my initial review of the Spin Bike.

I am 5'1". I have the seat as low and as far forward as it will go. I think that part fits fine. I also have the handlebars up as high as they will go. I don't like the leaning over position since it hurts my upper back. I wish they'd go up a little higher. I don't like leaning so much of my weight on my wrists. We all know I have wrist and joint issues. I do most of my pedal sitting in an upright position, not holding the handlebars at all.

Other than that, the feel of it is very smooth and solid. It pretty much feels like a regular spin bike form the gym. The dvds that come with it are totally boring, hence the decision to watch movies instead. I'm 40 mins into Alice in Wonderland and it took 35 mins for Johnny Depp to appear. (I watched the 5 mins of coming attractions).
