View Full Version : Lat Spread / Scapula Flexibility

Does anyone have any suggestions on opening up the lat spread pose.

Whenever I try to do it my trainer keeps insisting I open my back up and then when I try he says not to pull my arms forward, well I really don't know how to do it.

Are there any exercises or stretches for my back or scapulae that can help.

move your hands higher up under your lats there to low!

Do lat "shrugs" with a super wide grip and pulldowns with a handle in which you pinky stays higher than your index finger.

Generally I agree most beginners need a whole body routine featuring compund exercises 3-4 times per week for the first 3-6 months. A follow-on push-pull split or upper body/lower body split should round out the rest of the 1st year, when naturals put on 95% of the muscle mass they will gain.

what the hell did that have to do with opening up on a lat spread. that guy needs to create a new account and start over

OP, i think like mentioned above that its a practice thing, but i remember a guy i use to train with called it the butterfly effect and he said to inhale when pulling back and exhale when spreading, just have to losen up back and relax after your first time you will have a feel for it and it will be natural.
