Hi Gang,

I have a question that I hope someone can answer:

I won the Overall in my State NPC Bodybuilding Show in March of 2008. I then went on to compete in the Emerald Cup in April 2008 in which I placed 2nd in my class. During that year I was told that I qualified for a National level show for two years thereafter. Does that mean I can only do a National show up until March of 2010 or until the END of 2010 before I need to re-qualify?:dunno:

Thanks for your help!

L- Starting in 2009, the cut-off for national qualification was cut to 1 year from 2 years. So you still qualify for the 2 year window, but when the year ends, I'm not sure. I want to say at the end of the following competition season, but I'll wait & see if anyone confirms more specifically. Or you could shoot an email to the NPC folks - e.g. Pam Betz or Peter Potter.

I thought the last year to get 2 yr was 2007

so those competing in 2008 only had rest of 2008 plus all of 2009
i could be wrong

Ok, thanks Ladies. Not sure what show I will do Tammy, something later in the year because I took a lil too much time off this year:o I do recall them saying the rule changed to 1 year at the beginning of 2009 tho, like Jill said, so hopefully I just squeaked by. Thanks again.

It should be w/ 2008 as the last year to carry over the 2 yr limit- it wouldn't be fair to pull out that extra year from under someone's belt if they won it on the pre-2009 terms and were planning their competitions accordingly.

they didn't pull an extra year this new rule was decided at the meeting at nationals in 2007 to begin in 2008 so from 2008 onward only 1 yr qualification

its 1 year my training partner had to requalify on 2 weeks notice in 08 because he thought he had 2 years(he didnt make it placed 4th HW state champs n 2 weeks prep) not bad for being 2 months out from being in real shape!!!

Hmmm, ok --- shit its been a year & I'm old & blonde... so I guess 2007 was the last yr to grandfather in.

The qualifications run through the end of the calendar year and the new rule took effect for the 2008 season. So, for example, Justine won the lightheavies at the 2008 Jr nationals. That qualified her for any national show through the end of 2009. Since she did not make the top 5 at the 2009 nationals she will have to do a qualifier first during 2010 if she would want to do a national show anytime during 2010.

This is going to be an interesting year at some local qualifiers because this is really the first year many will need to requalify. So, there will be some doing their first contest not realizing the new rule and be shocked to see a national level competitor or two show up and take the overall.

TTTG is correct in that ALL qualifications go through the end of the calendar year, not from when your contest was

it was decided in atlanta in 08 Suz, not 07. this is confusing....but i do believe its explained on the NPC site.

from npc site:

Beginning in 2008, eligibility is reduced to one year for National contests with the exception of the Nationals and USA Championships that have two (2) years of eligibility.
Eligibility for athletes that qualified in 2007 will be grandfathered under the previous eligibility.

Ok, now I am really confused. These are the shows I did recently:

* 2007 Continental USA Won Overall Womans Bodybuilding. This is a national qualifier.
* 2008 Illinois State I took 1st in Masters lw and 1st in Open, also a National qualifier.
* 2009 Masters Nationals in PA. I took 2nd in 35 lw and 3rd in 45 lw.

So now I have 2 questions...
1. Do contestants need to secure top 5 at the Masters to re-qualify to do Masters National again?
2. Because I didnt do a regular National show does this mean I have to re-qualify to do...let say the North American in 2010?

If a competitor qualifies as a Masters competition, they are limited to compete in the masters divisions only.

from reading the above, i think you have to do masters only and qualify for open.

This is what I read out of this too - your last Open qual was in 2008, and per the NPC BOD note, as of 2008, your qual in 2008 is only good thru the end of 2009.

Ok thanks Tammy, Sassy... I messed up I guess last year...

So I will try to re-qualify for an open and do the Masters in 2010, 2 shows.

Then in 2011, I can do the open like USA's and Masters right?

Dam this is confusing.. I thought Masters was a Nationals too! I am so new at this! Sorry .. showing how dumb I am...

this is true if at a local level and qualify in masters division but not sure if that is also true if you place top 5 at masters nationals should ask sandy or another national judge

Thanks Suzanne, I really appreciate you guys taking the time here! I guess I will have to ask Chuck Sanow for my particular case. I wish they made the rules so everyone could understand. Wow, this just gave me a totally full schedule for this year..quite frankly, I really dont like doing more than 2 shows in a year... that going to be tough on this old body!
