That is literally less than a mile from my house ... I am going to have to check this out. I'll bet it used to be Gold's ...

I'll be checking back to see how you like it, Paul! My membership expires next month so I may try a diff gym.

I visited this gym and 2 other gyms on Saturday.

Someone had said good things about Anytime Fitness on Campbell Rd. Forget it; not at all hardcore.

The Royal Oak Gym was fine. Old school gym, good amount of space, not lacking very much. (The only thing I noticed it didn't have was any fixed-weight EZ-curl bars. All their fixed-weight bars were straight ones.) The gym features mostly Cybex equipment.

Finally, I visited the Powerhouse Gym in Madison Heights (14 Mile and Campbell Rd.), and I thought it was easily the best gym close to me. It had more space and more equipment than Royal Oak Gym, and was $10/month cheaper ($19.99 per month as opposed to $29.99 per month). It also features 24/7 access for members!

I ended up joining the Powerhouse Gym. Details are:

Powerhouse Gym
1461 W. 14 Mile Rd
Madison Heights, MI 48071
(248) 589-8030

I will add this one to the Hardcore Gym Registry, also.

I've actually toured the MH Powerhouse b/f. I not only liked the gym, but the staff as well. Good choice! :yep:
