Still plodding along without a gym. My workouts at home consist of high rep movements with dumbbells.

Try this at home - grab a dumbbell 1/3 of your bodyweight and see how many reps you can get doing a press. I am up to 50 reps at 50lbs. I used to do this years ago and remember getting 80 reps with this 50lb dumbbell. Got a ways to go to get back to that, but then again, that was 25 years ago. I am doing the same thing with one arm concentration curls where I got 18 reps with 50lbs.

Thats some serious pump work for sure!

You know my shoulders aren't even sore, but my intercostals and lower lats are killing me.

Joined a gym about 10 miles away and it's down the interstate 3 exits so it's relatively quick to get there and back. Much much smaller than I am used too and they have a month to month. Got a BOGO for two months. Hopefully the other gym will open. Lots of great things to look at in the cross-fit area. There were at least 3 fitness girls ripped to shreds and your average gym girls. It was like 10 girls to every guy there. :D

I managed to get in a great workout despite all of that. Funny how I used dumbbells for my workout with the Smith being the only exception when that's what I been using the last month here at home.

8 sets Smith Press
4 sets front lateral DB raises
4 sets rear delt machine
2 sets rear dumbbell raise
3 sets laterals

I think it's just the large mirrors that draw me to the gym. There are no mirrors at home because I will never look in them unless I am pumped up.

I would love to have a home gym, but with only 4 dumbbells, it just doesn't cut it.

I used to own a small gym back in the late 80s, it was called the Sweat Shop. We made all of our benches, power racks, cable crossovers, preacher bench, inverted sit-ups and lots more.

Closed it down when a member cut her finger off when a 25lb plate slid off a bar and smashed it against a 45lb on the floor. I was always telling the kids to pickup their plates which garnered me the nickname "Dad"

The Sweat Shop sounds cool!
I have about 1000lb of plates, oyi bar, dumbells from 20 to 100 and a smith machine in my garage but I rarely use the stuff anymore since I work in a gym full time I still do walking BB lunges in my backyard sometimes

My best friend and partner in the gym had full access to a metal fab and welding shop.

We sold all of our equipment quickly as we lost our lease when the landlord heard about the lost finger incident. Freaking small print got us.

Chest and Legs - yes an unusual combination. It's been too long since I worked either with any appreciable weight since the gym closed, but back to business now. Well, slow business on the legs. They have a great squat machine that I have never seen with handles in the front and a cradle around the shoulders. No need for a spotter and you can load a ton of weight on it.

We'll see how well I can walk tomorrow. :D

I had a great workout, especially because I was the only one there.

16 sets of lats in 35 minutes, 30 seconds rest between sets with 20-25 reps sets. Holy shit was I pumped.

Going to try some occlusion training in my next chest workout. Bring on the lactic acid baby, as it causes greater muscle hypertrophy from the higher lactic acid production. John Meadows was talking about this on his latest Blue Collar Radio show. Check it out!

Nursing a problem in my hip again. Something popped doing low pulley rows and I was using too much weight.

The new gym is boring and is lacking a lot of machines that I am used to.

There are two new gyms opening, one in the old location where I used to train and the owner of the previous is opening one about 3 miles from home. It looks to be a much smaller place and not as open but I know he has the equipment I want.

I tried some occlusion training during bicep workout last night. I used an ace bandage on my upper arms. Holy f--k what a pump. They were just tight enough to cause some blood flow restriction and about 10 minutes after I was done I took them off.

Last time I had hip problems it was from muscle imbalances caused by running and using the treadmill on steep incline and I woke up one morning with the problem. Couldn't touch my knees or put shoes or socks on.

I knew when I did it this time as my hip socket actually popped and I felt the pain. I can dislocate both my hips out of socket. Been that way since I was a kid.

It's almost gone now so back to squats tomorrow.

My old gym is opening in a new location with 30% more space and a much nicer building. They refused to pay rent in the old location until the landlord fixed the mold problem and the landlord refuses to fix it citing 80k for a new roof must be paid by the tenant. I'd say fuck you too and leave. Oh well, in the long run it will be a positive thing. I wasn't comfortable in the new ' crossfit ' gym, even with all the girls running around in skimpy clothes, wait, wtf did i just say. Well it wasn't a bodybuilder's gym, if you know what I mean.

Another plus with the new location for my old gym is it's a block away from my grocery store so I can always make sure I am stocked with lot's of food after a great workout.

I owned one of those kind of gyms until a member lost her finger in an after hours workout with her boyfriend with the lights off. She tripped on a e-z curl bar left on a bench with a 25lb plates and no collars. She fell to the floor and the 25lb landed on her hand which also happened to be on top of a 45lb plate left behind by some member on the floor. No more finger ! No more gym after that. Gawd blessed lawyers.

Hit shoulders today, 20 sets of 5 different exercises circuit style. 30 second rests between sets. One minute between each round. I was f'n gassed when I was done.

Seated Press
DB Side Lateral Raise
Front DB Raise
Rear Delt Machine
Incline Smith Machine

Pyramid reps 25-15-10-20 each set was very close to failure, except the first
Awesome pump.

This interim gym that is setup before the grand opening this week has no mirrors. I failed to realize just how much the feedback from the mirrors effects how I feel about myself. It was like a drug that was missing from all the action.

My girl and I rode around in one of my dream cars. I had a Z28 30 years ago and always wanted to drive a new ZL1 SS.

We put on several hundred miles driving down the South East Coast of Florida and I managed to stay out of jail and the back of a police car while driving this.

I was lucky to receive a couple of bottles of IML Halo Extreme from an esteemed member of the RX fold. We will see what it can do for me along with a return to some staple supps that I dropped several months ago when my gym closed down.

My strength is down considerably since I stopped using Beta Alanine, Citrulline Malate and Creatine. Tonight is going to be Back and Arms.

I had an 85. Parked it on the street in front of my house. Around 7am I heard a loud crash and looked out to see another car where my Z was parked. It unfortunately was NOT totaled and they fixed it about 10 times trying to get it right, but never did.

No. I was happy to rent one for a few days and drive around southern FL. But at 38k plus a $2600 gas guzzler tax I will pass. I am saving up for a Lexus, maybe.

This was the exact model I had, the IROC version.

I haven't been to the gym in over a week because of a sciatica problem. It's been difficult to do anything but sit up straight or lay flat on my back. Starting to feel some relief today. Lifting a weight was the last thing I could do.

The only thing I can think of that set it off was shoveling 6" of heavy wet snow last Saturday and then my leg workout the following day.

FUCK this getting old shit.

So after no workouts for way too long, i decided to pick the weights up at home as this sit-on-my-ass therapy for recovery isn't working.

Started out with the foam roller and worked all the muscles in my hips and buttocks. I am not convinced it is sciATTICA as the doctor suggested. Now it maybe tight, bound up muscles aggravating the fuck out the sciatic nerve, it's not the primary problem.

Like other injuries, I am going to start working this one out and hopes the physical therapy will do me good. Doing nothing is only prolonging it.

Seated DB curls, presses and triceps extensions is all I did. Bending over to pickup the dumbbells was the hardest part of the workout.

My back isn't as sore or tight today.

Sorry your not feeling the greatest! SUCKS to get held down by an injury!!! I've preached it before - but, may want to "consider" getting a deep tissue massage a few times......if you get a good masseuse - it will hurt like a MF'r (not gonna lie on that one!!)......BUT, I have gotten through some pulls and strains much quicker and with regular tune ups - find I'm much less tight in the areas that tend to hang up on me (low back, traps, delt neck connections...etc). I had a similar problem last year. Now it's much more pronounced in one area of my hip and pain down my leg.

Doing nothing for two weeks only made me feel worse. Shoveling snow today didn't help, it was more like pushing it, as my driveway has about 15 incline.

So I am going to balls-up and deal with the pain vs. roll over and let it keep me still.

yes be careful w/deads get reps speaking from a competitive lifter deads are great exercise but can be dangerous if go to heavy too often.

They make your whole body stronger esp legs and back but either do every 10-14 days or do 1 day mod heavy and 1 day light if do deads weekly at least that is my opinion.

haha Thanks for the blessing.

I will take it VERY easy Kevin. No single, double, triples or less than 15 reps for me. I want to strengthen it so that when I do pick up an 80lb dumbbell or struggle, it won't be a weak point.

The muscles were being neglected and causing me issues from that alone.

My aim is to keep what muscle I have, not so much build new, although that will certainly be acceptable should I do all things right. It's happened before. I am not enhanced and test levels are declining.

Same here. It can be 80 in Miami and 35 in the panhandle of FL, or colder which you just went thru. Don't know how cold you got.

I want to keep the house in Ohio for the summer and early fall seasons. Let the kids live here and just keep a bedroom for us, and probably most of the bills.

I believe that Mike is dead on. I haven't trained heavy weights per se in a long time. What matters is how heavy it feels to those quads at the time. Higher reps, super sets, giant sets, drop sets and tempo all can seriously put a load on those quads without getting injured.

I was wrong, today my legs are screaming. They weren't even sore the 1st day and I thought this is good.

This is the kind of pain I love to endure. It did cause my hip/sciatica to flare up but nothing like it was. I am doing a lot of stretching and foam rolling to keep loose.

thanks Mike. Indeed it's tough and I have much admiration for the guys doing it with real weight. I was using just under my bodyweight with 155lbs. Going to move up this week with small incremental adjustment of the weight.

Great advice on the hanging from a pull-up bar.

3. Resume supplementation - adding a pro hormone from IML - Epi/Tren 6-8 weeks
4. Moderate Cardio

5 REDUCE STRESS - now that taxes are paid, I always worry about that being self-employed, I can relax and not worry about having the money to do it. I hate IRS penalties!!!

Hey Lorrie. How are you doing?

If the judging in BB wasn't so f'd up and they awarded the best physique and not the 'best buddy' or the gym's biggest guy or supporter I might do it, someday.

Then there is the problem of just being too old, too lazy, too busy, too fat...

Light weight I assume? I don't think my shoulders could handle much more than 20lbs.

20lbs will cause me problems, as in rip my shoulders apart - it's got to be done with the correct form.

I use 10 -12 - 15lbs and only when my shoulders have been warmed up. If it hurts, as in the joints, I drop back down

It helps many of the smaller stabilizer muscles and to ensure you hit all three heads of the shoulder.

It will also hit the brachialis / brachioradalis in your arms with enough reps.

This one pumps my shoulders and gives me that visual feedback we all desire, so its a great reason to like them.

Thanks Curt. I am starting to catch up to you now, I got to get it in high gear.

Sorry, my sarcasm detector didn't pick this up! Lol

20lbs was a high estimate. Will start adding these at 10lbs. Thanks!

Will add those at 5lbs. Maybe a 2 1/2 plate.

You were too busy looking for grammatical errors and typos.

Mac,

I tried the goal posts as a finishing exercise yesterday for shoulders. I only used 15 pounds and I really felt it. You can teach and "old" dog new tricks.

Hey Kevin, that's great. Yes, if I can learn new tricks, so can you younger brothers.

Do these with correct form or they can do more damage than good but I believe they will add stability to your shoulder joints.

Thanks for stopping in my Asylum.

I do have some shoulder issues. What I couldn't get right is exactly how high I should keep my elbows. It felt right when they were below parallel to the aground. When raised them to parallel I began to feel the grinding on my joints. Is that the case with you?

Yes, there's a sweet spot where things are not grinding together so much. I get some elbow pain if they go above parallel.
