feeling better, feel liked I have turned the corner. Watched The Old Man and the Sea last night with family. "Man is not made for defeat. He can be destroyed, yes, but not defeated" speaking of the spirit to persevere. I choose this pain, to push past the limits of what is safe, the easy point of return. Everyone is different. For some this is an athletic endeavor, for some a way to get attention. For others, myself included, this is from Don Quixote. It is athletic, artistic, cerebral and cathartic. Standing on stage is the culmination of the obstacles overcome, the demons slayed. Every day that the contest draws nearer, the less people understand, the more distant I feel from others.

Taste fine, however since I drink it immediately post workout, as long as it doesn't taste awful, then it's a win. Mixes instantly. I drink it walking out the door of the gym and then I drink the biorhythm afterglow and square meal protein 30 minutes later.

This is my good friend and business partner, Vance Rowland. 3 time all american, 4 time Ironman finisher and former bodybuilder. He is crushing the course record here. Some kid (21) from out of state came to get an easy win and started trying to get into vance's head. Vance (46) just smiled, and handed the boy his ass.

Z pak wasn't enough. Really started feeling better over weekend, then relapsed yesterday and last night. Lots of wheezing, really concerned about this turning into pneumonia, which happens easily for me with the asthma. Gotta spend another afternoon in the doc's office.

Ax...do they have one of those hospital type breathing units with the mist you can bring home? I have had my asthma go Pneu twice over the years. BE CAREFUL!!! Exercise does give you the adrenalin fix although very temporary.

My kids (and their mates) and grandkids just told me that I have to make it to Pitt, 'no ifs ands or buts'. First time I have seen any of them show this kind of interest. Sure helps during these trying times.

Not I...:dunno: This is a whole different animal for me. The state show was in my backyard, maybe one other guy to really worry about, nothing of this calibre. Just the knowledge of the quality of competition is mindblowing! That is why I throw some things out there, maybe more than I should, just because I know that all of us are relating on some level.

Went back to doc. Will continue on antibiotics, he feels like I am on the mend, just need to maintain for another week before amping the training up. I will be very careful of the asthma. Putting my boy as my avi helps with the anxiety, he is such a regal mutt...Zuni. Heading home, cancelling my appointments between 5:30 and 10a.m. to get some rest. Thanks guys, g'nite.

Been away for TWO Days...been brutal, feel like I am losing everything I have worked so hard for by the minute. Slowly getting better, just the occasional hacking fit.

today back:
10 minutes cardio
did a taste of the zack khan video for a change
superset t-bar rows (don't have one, so bar stuck in the corner) w/ cable rows:
bar (started getting squirrely), 4 plates x 12, 5 plates x 10, 6 plates x 5
rows: 180, 210, 230 x 12

wide pulls behind head w/close grip pulldowns: 120 x 12 and 210 x 10 x 3ea.

iso lateral low hammer: 3plates a side x 12 x 3

straight arm pulldowns superset with rope crunches

20 minutes cardio

Saturday: Had a good bicep/tricep superset workout. Little kid said I look like an action figure...didn't say which one, so compliment it is....

Sunday: walked 4 miles very brisk pace.

Today: Happy Memorial Day everyone. Legs.

A word on orthotics...they are great, really helped to even out some imbalances I had. However, some weakness caused by those imbalances take a while to even out and you don't notice them until you do something really extreme...like my last leg workout. I still have some DEEP soreness at the tendonis attachments of my right knee. Visions of esplendido went through my head driving to the gym today. I decided to do a predominately unilateral workout, so I would immediately notice anything. I have been icing every night for the past week.

10 minute warm up on bike. Feeling it.
one legged extensions: 50lbs x 25 reps each leg x 4 sets. Pain went by third set.
Goblet aka dumbbell squats: Holding dumbbell at chest, feet wide, plie style, trying to break parallel (very tough in this position). 120lbs. x 15 x 4
One legged presses: 1plate x 20, 2 plates x 15, 3 plates x 15, 3.25 plates x 12
Leg extensions: 190 x 20 x 3, 4th set drop set until no movement possible.
Single leg seated calf: 50lbs x 20 x 4ea.
Single leg standing calf: bodyweight + 50lbs x 20 x 3

I had two Wendy's spicy chicken sandwiches pre workout
I had wings and sushi post workout
I will have 1.7lb porterhouse, potatoes, asparagus and peroni beer for dinner. I will remember baldie and family in our blessing.
I will have ice cream with fresh mango for dessert.
I will lay in bed and rub my buddha belly for luck.
Tomorrow, back on track for Pitt.

Thanks, he was a lalaland! There were only two guys in the open superheavies, so he got a trophy.
He didn't place in the juniors where heavy and super heavy were thrown together. He did MOST of what I told him to do, not all and that was the difference. He has realized that big doesnt mean shit without deep, seperation and thin skin. Hey, he is only 23, will eventually carry 250 on his frame with no problem. he walked away motivated and ready to make a plan. I was exhausted. I will post my thoughts on the contest tomorrow in Central.

I will, I promise. Having said that, it is one brutal shot to pull off. The bigger you are, the harder to hold. I will have to start working on loosening the diaphram (crushed in a car accident years ago) and releasing it with aplomb, not PANIC! My dream is to have Zane comment on it someday....

15 minute cardio warmup
5 sets of 20 rep extensions (light, right knee is uber tight, being cautious)
squats: 135, 225, 315 x 15 x 2 (held last 3 at the bottom with 4 second pause, then drop to 225 x 15 with 2 second hold on bottom of every rep)
Leg Presses: 16 plates total x 15 reps x 4 sets (feet in different positions every set)
free motion squat machine: 300 x 15 x 3 (focused on pushing on the outside of my feet to activate vastus lateralis)
superset: extensions w/ lying curls 3 sets of 20 reps Overall ok workout, just felt antsy because of knee, hips. tomorrow, high gear!

I'm feeling ya on the sore knee. My right one hasn't recovered from the deep heavy hacks last Wed and tonight is time to do again! Just got to get that negative vibe out of the way but be smart at the same time.

Interesting how the distribution of the fat is...upper body, especially abs, look like two weeks out from show, however lower body, especially upper thighs, needs every bit of the time remaining. I thought only women had that problem?:dunno:

No doubles today, rested this morning. Client out of town, so could eat a good breakfast. Will workout shoulders/bi and cardio this p.m.

Freakin chiropractors should stick to cracking backs and quit trying to represent themselves as Yoda. Guy checks my blood pressure, I notice he is kind of fumblin with the pulse, pumping the sleeve until my eyes bug out.

On supplements:
The closer I get to a show, the less supplements I take. I really try to simplify everything. I cut down on stimulants as I don't want to risk half-life caffeine surge in the night...

I love the names of your suppliments. If thats cutting back...would love to see the list when you are full on. Do you count specific aminos as suppliments? On my non training days like today I limit my suppliments to one Animal PAK, 2 fish oils and aminos.

No because I usually take a product with an amino profile, I really don't take indiviual aminos. On my non training days like today I limit my suppliments to one Animal PAK, 2 fish oils and aminos. We are not too far off on non-training days..I take about the same, just have to keep the fiber supp in there, Animal Pak is my multi vit and my oils are the omegalyze or clomega

I haven't wanted to wrap (hide the injury) so I just got a sleeve. I feel like high rep squat warm-ups work better than extensions. It is there, just trying to get enough stimulation to keep growing (which I need) and not aggravate it too much.
Here's the chit...as soon as I deal with the knee, other old injuries flare up, ie, the torn biceps/brachii tendon in rt arm. Gotta LOVE it!

I hear ya....the knee swells up, get that under control the shoulder freaks out. Back and forth...just fucks w your head! My knee pain just went away during my last leg session, that was weird in a good way! But it's just part of the deal, we learn to train smart and move on.

Interesting observation regarding the warmups. Sometimes I wonder that I may being too much on the warmups trying to get loose. I have to get my hips loose before trying to squat I am way to tight! Need to stretch more.

exactly, to me a compound warmup works better than an isolation. sometimes extensions will aggravate it bit before loosening, whereas squats are more gradual. Stretching, don't get me started...I taught a power yoga class twice a week two years ago...now? Only so much time in the day, however I WILL focus exclusively on stretching, (yoga) for two-three weeks after contest. Then I will keep it in programs once a week.

Took your lead and did lighter weight squats for warmups today instead of leg extensions. Liked it alot. Think I will just do 10 sets of squats from now on at the beginning of leg day. After all squats are what make them sticks grow! Thanks!

Hey, glad it helped! My new challenge is keeping my arms out of chest and back, especially. Have to focus more on squeeze, arms wanting to take over, arms are pumped to the max my second set of back. I will start preexhausting: chest w/pec dec and back with rear delt flys or incline shrugs.

I have been without computer, internet or phone! since last Thur. Just got it back yesterday. Pretty devastating thunderstorm went through and tore everything up. I started on supersetting everything and increasing the frequency of workouts yesterday. Yesterday was chest/back giant sets w/abs, cardio.
Chest:
Flat bench: 295 x 6 straight to Incline dumbbell presses: 80 x 12 and straight to pec dec 150 x 20 for three sets.
Back:
Wide grip pulldowns: 220 x 6 to barbell rows: 225 x 12 to straight arm pulls 120 x 20 for three sets.
Deadlifts (dorian style): 295 x 10 x 4
incline crunches w/twist: 4 sets of 20 Crunch machine 4 x 15 w/drop
30 minutes cardio.

Today: cardio and calves.

Weight: 210

I am also going to blast arms. I have to bring them up, just in constant pain...almost unbearable to work. I will drop weight and almost PT train them with super high reps, just get them to respond to blood dump. They will be radically different in two weeks, promise. No synth either...fuck that.

Try post #574 for the most recent. I usually post them at the end of a workout or diet. I also proposed a "hypothetical" AAS cycle in the AAS thread to esplendido. I won't say that is what I have done...as "it may hurt my chances of going pro" and because "you just want to know because you aren't willing to work as hard..." and "people will just look at the cycle and not the....blah, blah":hypno::hypno: LOL. I just got that everytime I have asked anyone about this stuff and ALL of their hoodie rat buddies chime in. The AAS thing is fluid and subject to change as it should be. I will just say that it is documented in this thread the BP issues I had as well as anxiety attacks. Scared the chit out of me and I RADICALLY revised my strategy to a LESS is MORE philosophy. "nuff said, thanks for taking the time to read...I'm honored.

Background: She started weight training September 08. She entered her first show in 09 and won the masters and overall in SC STATE. This will be her second show! This will also be the second show we have both competed in together..in bodybuilding!

However, for "right here, right now" nothing left to do. Just fine tune and hold the fire. I have already put together my training plan for next year with what i want to bring up, etc., but I am happy with what I will present at Masters. Like I said, I just want a top 5 for my first visit.

Now would be the time to find out how you respond to a carb up and water depletion instead of doing it at a show.

During my last prep, I was ready at 6 weeks out. I tried using diuretics to see how I responded and the result was a total FAIL. My muscles flattened and I seemed to smooth out with very little vascularity.

I also found it took A LOT of carbs to spill over but my muscles were significantly fuller. 3 days of carb up was perfect. Then I added some fats and bam, my veins were popping like crazy.

Of course all of that goes out the window if your not ready on the day of the show and your still holding water and fat.

Weigh in Thurs. late...correct? The Station has a dry sauna. Shred, weigh then carb city Thurs. after weigh in. Like a prize fighter.

Wisely said Hammer. This judging panel, if the same as last year, looks for Conditioning, back, then symetry. Its all over in the initial walk out and a few turns. Pencils down until comparrisons. If there are so many in a class then they will do some moving amongst each walkout group. Win your weight class then go for the Overall on Sat.

Thanks guys. I was wondering what the hell was going on with my thinking processes and it was a BUG! Yesterday was two hours of cardio and halfway through the second hour session my legs felt like lead and my head was swimming. Went home, took a hot shower, ibuprofen, vit. c and got in bed at 8:30. Sweated and shivered all night long. Feel better this morning.

Diet: Same as posted earlier, no carbs with exception of lots of veggies. Taking in about 300 grams protein.

Decided to have a change of pace and got a month membership at the local Y. It is surprisingly the only place that is powerlifting friendly, Gold's won't even let you lift heavy. So there are some big guys and no one knows us.
Cybex equipment, different feel, the cable stuff feels heavier, 250lbs stack feels like 300 on lifefitness or other. Also, the plates are HEAVY. That is why the powerlifters love it, no shocks in a meet from using light plates!

Pulldowns: wide, rt. angle: 200 x 10 x 3
Barbell rows: 225 x 12 x 3 (felt like 275, maybe just weak?)
One arm dumbbell rows: (charles glass rowing motion) 100 x 10 x 3
Seated low hammer rows: 180 x 15 x 3
Shrugs: pyramid 225 to 405 x 12 then down

can't underestimate the effects of virus/bug can have on your outlook. woke up this morning positive and ready to enjoy myself. I also have Xiomara to think about. I was wearing myself out getting her ready, music, posing, make-up/hair appt...got all of that done. I want her to enjoy herself and luckily, ignorance is bliss. She has no clue the logistics of what we are doing...I'm the military guy...got it all in a folder. Thanks.

Yesterday: 1.5 hrs cardio, split stepper, stepmill and recumb bike.

This is preaching to the choir to all of you who work, train and compete, but just my slice of life here...

I have pneumonia. Probably for a week now. Last week when I picked up the cardio to 2 hours, my work load also went up with clients wanting massages in anticipation of my being gone. Had one FUCKING asshole show up at my office sick as dog and I think my immune system just caved in...
My day:
3 hours of cardio/training
6 deep tissue massages a day (these are people that I have to work DEEP, no fluff)
1.5 hours of other business demands.

+train Xiomara and work on her posing.
+food prep (Xiomara and I share this duty)
+ just got hit with two major bills: one vehicle needs new transmission and the other needs new a/c compressor + major tune-up=$4000.
+ relatives in Honduras need money.
+Just got daughter's private college tuition bill.

Hey, I just tell myself I am not the only one...I am foregoing antibiotics because of possible water retention, etc. Just going to try and relax and think positive and let God take the wheel from this point on.

I know I am preaching to the choir here, lots of you have had to squeeze into a class, however I just was not prepared for the brain dead feeling. I am like a stoner without the high...nothing but short term memory loss! I have to write lists for everything. I know I will turn the corner soon...This is the toughest physical thing I have ever done...Period.

advair is what I am using and improving on. I was waiting to hear from someone if antibiotics would screw up condition and they said no, so I will start the round today..a Z pack. Things are looking up, getting what needs to be done with minimal bs.

Those last couple of lbs damn near killed me...led to the pneumonia no doubt. But I made it....201 for the past three days...eating good...just not looking forward to the drive...I will take a pickle jar:hmn:

Economic stuf-moving , no job, getting one, psycho family members, daughters breast cancer scare... so I get it. It hasnt stopped- thanks to friends who helped and were there wehen I needed them.

ok, quick impressions:

I made the 198 cutoff at the early weigh-in, so been able to carb. feeling the strength coming back.

Xiomara made her weight this a.m., 45+ mid weight.

Judging by what I have seen of the lt hvys 40+, I will be LUCKY to make to 5! The class is deep and top notch. This is going to be an education.

Xiomara and I have been hanging with Marijan Lipsinic and his wife, super nice people. Very caring and I am learning alot from this man. He will be a PRO.

Baldie: the guy is dialed in and ready to do battle. Love this guy. The t's rock, heard Dave P say they were freaking awesome!

Dave P: didn't really say much to me, even though he has been helping, just nodded his approval when I hit some shots at weigh-in, guess that is good enough. Does this man ever sleep?

it was so cool seeing bodyhard, abp and espendido here, wishing us rx guys luck. really was great.

DON'T FEEL LIKE I REPRESENTED VERY WELL. I THINK MY NERVES GOT TO ME, JUST COULDN'T KEEP PUMPED.

I RUSHED THROUGH MY POSING ROUTINE, THINKING I WAS SAVING SOMETHING FOR COMPARISONS, HOWEVER THE POSING HARDENED ME UP. SHOULD HAVE TAKEN MY TIME.

I WAS IN THE SECOND CALLOUT. NOT REALLY DISAPPOINTED, HOWEVER THERE WERE A COUPLE OF GUYS IN THE FIRST CALLOUT REALLY SMOOTH. RICK SEEMED TO THINK I DIDN'T MAKE TOP 5, HOWEVER ANOTHER GUY SAID THAT WASN'T NECESSARILY THE TOP 6 IN THE FIRST CALLOUT. I HAVE NO IDEA.

I WISH THEY LET YOU KNOW. REALLY DIFFICULT TO STAY ON POINT, PREPARE TO POSE AND THEN WALK OUT AND THAT'S IT? I WILL DO MY BEST TO GO OUT TOMORROW NIGHT, PREPARED FOR ANYTHING. MARIJAN PUT IT IN PERSPECTIVE FOR ME: I GOT A CALLOUT MY FIRST TIME AT MASTERS....A CALLOUT!

Ate a burger and fries and 4 dr.peppers. Feeling really filledout (and filled up). I think i will do the same about 3 hours before night show tomorrow. Rice cakes just don't cut it for me, maybe i'll try some gu before posing.

Exhausted, worked with xiomara on her posing. She looks awesome, will probably place higher than me...hell, she did at state for that matter. There are some really big girls here, however xiomara has uber conditioning and great lines. Her shoulders and tris are nuts. She is nervous as hell, don't blame her, so was i. Just the atmosphere ramps up the bp.

Going to bed now. I promise i will be ready for a beer tomorrow night. Baldie, rick, bh, abp, neal...hdg (think i saw you prowling around looking like a monster)...goodnight and godbless. Thanks.....see you tomorrow.

xiomara looked great. we knew that she was going to a...ahem...tentative poser, but she pulled it off! She will probably get fourth (out of six) and maybe as high as third! In her second freakin show! i am so proud of her, baldie said she just screams potential. wow.

I was going to post in central, but why? I will stay with family...right here:

1. RX crew, you are great. I didn't get a chance to meet or talk with everyone, weekend was a blur, especially with both of us competing. Mac, thanks for photos. I think I saw Gman talking to HDG, LOOK just HIT me in the freakin' head next time guys!

2. Baldie, my daughter is now your biggest fan! Amidst all the hubbub, just talking to you calmed me down, made take stock of what is important and appreciate my family even more. Yes, my friend, life is bright and beautiful at any age. Thank you.

3. Marijan and Sandra Lipsinic: I truly hope that Xiomara and I will continue to nurture this new friendship and we are there for you as you have been for us. I could not have done as well this weekend without your support and friendship. You are both beautiful people and what makes this sport special. Marijan, you will be a pro. YOU are the kind of representative this sport needs and deserves. We love you both!

4. HDG, you are a beast! Rick, thanks for the constructive criticism...just wait a little longer than right when I walk off stage...lol! Neal, you are a gentleman and great for the sport. Gerry T, sorry, when I mentioned you earlier, I thought you were someone else! You have some tremendous insights and a great eye. Freebird, where were you? I missed you. To everyone else...sorry if I didn't say hello...just a deer in the headlights.

Just read Baldie's posts...I concur, for me. You did not get the best I could offer up there. I am now 210 without sacrificing cuts and am full. I pledge this to all of you:

1. No more gurus: I will know my body and will not second guess myself.
2. I sacrificed my health and muscle to try to squeeze down to 198 when I was ready at 208. The reason: I was told I would be MORE competitive as a light heavy...more competitive as the tallest one in the class and the most competitive class in the whole contest? Doesn't make sense.
3. I would have been a small heavyweight, however I would have had more time in front of the judges to make an (any) impression.

My pledge to all of you: I will be on stage next year at 215 with the same level of conditioning as this year...bet.

Got a sinus infection...guess my body just made it through the show and then kaplooey.

Serious sciatic pain, probably from driving 1,200 miles and not wearing my orthotics all weekend: seeing my acupuncturist this a.m.

Just in a general malaise...with mayonaise...feeling a glaze as I peer through a haze...fall back on the chaise...head a daze...gotta ways....to go....yea.....carb high....yea.....

Two of us. 215 is where I will be. Up 28 pounds. 202 being my true competition weight...13 pounds in 12 months. We will do it!!
