Interview With Tabitha Klausen

How did you get started with bodybuilding?I’ll have been lifting seriously for 4 years, in March 2010. My husband (then boyfriend) showed me all the basic exercises, and I was hooked! I had always been interested, but never had a detailed introduction to the weights. Soon I was at the gym everyday. The discipline, and structure weightlifting provided, along with my husband, helped me to overcome my battle with eating disorders. I was fascinated with the changes I was seeing in my body. Once I got over my disorders and started eating a healthy diet, I went from 110lbs to 150lbs, this being an appropriate weight for being almost 6 feet in height!

So what is the bodybuilding training routine that you use to achieve that killer physique?I like to do allot of heavy lifting, and train hard in the gym. I switch up the way I group my body parts every week. I like change, and can get bored with workouts very quickly. I do drop sets, supersets, group sets, circuit training, kettle bells, high intensity cardio, and classes. I like to try everything, and push my body by challenging it in different activities. I really like to lift as heavy as I can, and I am very proud of my 175lb one rep max on the bench press, and my 675lb leg press! I like to train at The Montanari Bro’s Gold’s Gym in New Haven, CT. It is a hardcore gym, and seeing all the focused athletes, and receiving support from soo many people in the gym, motivates me to push myself harder, and harder.

When trying to cut down do you prefer to use HIIT or just normal cardio? When I cut down I usually jump on the treadmill and walk on an incline. This always works well for me, my body fat drops very quickly. Sometimes I will just do HIIT just to switch things up in my workouts. I am NOT a big fan of the treadmill, but it is necessary, so I do it!
What is your Diet like?I am always on the go, so I need to have meals that are easy and fast. I usually start out my day with a shake for breakfast, and then have wraps during the day. I get sliced deli chicken or turkey, and whole wheat wraps. It’s very simple but it works. I will also have some fruit during the day. Dinner is usually a wrap or if I have time I’ll cook a meal. Lean beef, or chicken and some veggies. I have a couple cheat meals during the week, and I love sweets, so i really have to watch myself around them! I honestly think moderation is everything, so if I have a craving for something I will get it. As long as I eat clean the rest of the time I am ok. I find that this is what works best for me. When I am dieting for a competition on the other hand, I am very strict. I’ll substitute in different foods like brown rice, or sweet potatoes, but I’ll keep the calorie intake the same. I have a wonderful diet coach, Jerry Montanari, who has helped me with my off season, and contest diets, as well as contest prep.
What is your supplementation like?As for supplements I use:
•Dymatize Elite Gourmet Protein powder
•Redline (for my energy and fat burner)
•Women’s Fitness Pack Daily Vitamins
Plans for the future?I have big plans for 2010. I am planning on competing in Bikini as a Pro, as I earned my Pro card at the Team Universe in New York in September. I would like to make a name for myself in the fitness industry, and help people achieve their fitness goals. I am working on creating a website for myself where I can communicate with people using daily blogs and videos, with diet and training tips. I am a fitness model with Wilhelmina Models, so I would also like to focus more on my modeling this year. I just got married in July, and haven’t yet gone on my honeymoon, I am hoping we can plan one this year!!!!!
Favorite Quote?I don’t have a favorite quote, but I like anything that motivates, inspires, pushes me, or touches my heart.

Well, she may not have placed very well this weekend, but she got some exposure. Steve B. went up to her backstage and asked it she would like to do a shoot with MD.

She also got approached by another mag, can't recall what it was though.

Everyone knows that getting your name out there is pretty big in this industry.

Look for Tab in an upcoming MD mag soon. (i'll update when I findout which month)

Agreed, here.
I think she looks great, but can't tell one bikini competitor form another. :dunno:
Give me a little time, I'll get it. Took me a while with figure too.

I hate those shoes. Just looking at them makes me angry. My boss used to wear them and I was always waiting for him to climb a tree like a monkey. grrr
