Hey just curious,

I'm following Daves diet, on days I do cardio in the morning on an empty stomach do I have my shake between cardio and lifting?

Yep. definitely a meal before lifting. Not necessarily a shake. Most people prefer a solid meal about 30min to an hour before lifting.
If you are finishing your cardio and going directly to weights then I believe Dave says never do cardio before a resistance training session. Do it after.

So idealy

Get up and do fasted cardio.
Eat first meal.
Eat second meal
Lift
Extra cardio if required
Eat third meal
Eat forth meal
Extra Cardio if required.
eat 5th meal
Sleep.

I tend to have better results if I have a zero carb whey before my morning HIIT.

For me, that is just 20grams of protein with water, glutamine and some aminos.

I and others have some theories why it works better for me than fasting cardio. But all that counts is that it works for me. It may or may not work well for you.
