Building some legs.

I don't know why James shows the 755 squats on YT with little depth. I posted pics in here I took about 3 years ago with him doing 610 for 10 reps DEEP. Also instead of these 1450 leg press YT partials I posted pics of him repping 1000 pounds with knees buried in his chest. James can you dig up those old pics?

I couldnt find the pics on here. I'm thinking you posted them on your old journal. I think the whole journal was deleted? Too bad.

James, I don't understand your training practices and methodology.

I thought you are a bodybuilder. However your exercises consist of very low ROM, extremely heavy weight and often times singles with a rest between each rep.

I have not seen anyone else employ this type of training and want to understand it. Can you explain what the benefits are and why you do it this way?

HeavyDutyGuy
07-10-2012, 10:23 AM
On that machine, that IS a full ROM, your arms go up and arc in.I posted those just for that reason. I do low reps- sometimes - rest pause/Mentzer style, but other sets are 20 - or more reps. I just didn't video the first warmup set. Calves tend to be higher reps as the stack isn't very much, its whatever reps take to get to muscular failure- whether it's 4, 14, or 40. I don't do the traditional 4 sets of 10 or whatnot because it's too arbitrary and that didn't cause me to grow when I do try it. I'm not a pumper- I power build.

Ever try STATIC shrugs?- no ROM and one of the hardest things I've ever tried. At one point in 99 or so I was doing a lot if statics-get the weight in fully contracted position, hold until strength goes and lower with a slow negative. How many reps?-1, never more than two. Mostly worked on leg extensions, pull downs, and Amy exercise where there was resistance in the fully contracted position.

Straight Arm Pulldowns - 50 x 20 2 sets, 87.5 x 8, 125 x 4,
200 x 4 RP- felt very heavy!

Close Grip Pulldowns 200 x 6, 275 x 5,
357.5 x 2 RP
Rp drop 312.5 x 2 RP

Yates rows 135 x 15, x 10, 225 x 6, 315 x 6, 405 x 6, 495 x 7

Rack Deads / from top of knees 765 x 5

Matrix rows - break in. 5 pl (270) a side x 5 + 2 FR + 2 neg!

Rack deads 1035 x 6 - tough time today, someone put the thick bar on a bench so couldn't use it, this was the most I could get on this bar. Strap kept slipping and when I was setting up some black female trainer was lurking, all added up to sub standard.

Biceps

225 x 7

One arm cable curls -break in 60 x 8 + 2 FR + 2 neg.

BW 252 - empty stomach, just creatine punch and some coffee.

Tough one!

Been off HRT since March and have regressed in hardness, but strength and weight have held despite dieting. My new HRT is here now, so may start over the weekend. Hello 275 by DEC.

KeithThanks Keith! It will, I may add an extra training back in. That should help with the hardness as well.

Day off from work- I don't get those much-and no workout, so we're going out., taking a couple kids- our ex roommates kids actually-to Railroad days- you get to visit up to 8 local museums for 15 bucks and they shuttle you around. Sounds fun and tiring lol. We haven't taken them out since right before I lost the corrections gig, so we're due. For some reason they like hanging with us.

Railroad Days was a blast!- 5 train museums in 6 hours, including the "Mind Bender" exhibit at the Durham museum. Too packed to even get to all the activities to get the "hall of fame" certificate, you had to do the activities, get clues, enter each "vault" and get the passwords. So I got one, hacked the vault by guessing the other two and we went from there, lol! Got some cool pics too

Smith squats 1 pl ea side x 2, 2 pl, 3 pl, 4pl, 5 pl, 6 Pl ea x 2, more for the neuromuscular facilitation than to raise core temp to warm up,
8 pl a side x 6 + 1 neg.

Seated thy leg curl 140x 10, 207.5 x 11 + 2 FR + 2 neg- ouch!

Toe press on Matrix leg press 415 x 25- very strict, calves were burning bad! , x 14.

Mike and Keith, all of my warmups usually look like that. It's hard on barbell exercises to go really heavy and keep it strict sometimes. But this will be
my focus in the coming year. I really don't need to get stronger, or handle heavier weights. So it's all about contraction-whether I'm doing positives, statics or negatives. I will be using all three- in good form.
The plan is to gain 15 lbs of muscle (not body weight) and come in next years show st 250, and drier than I was at 237 2 years ago.

OK James 256. About 300 more days to hit at least 275. 1 1/2 pounds a month. Remember to eat like a 275 pound man not a 256 pound man. About 250 xtra calories per day every day. One xtra scoop of whey and a large sweet potato added onto your present diet would do it.

BaldieThat's basically the plan, though I hope to get a bounce back up to 260 shortly from starting HRT and from not dieting , still mostly eggs, tuna, but adding back in multi grain bread and pasta dishes for dinner. Once I hit Valentines Day, the carbs start getting cut again. I figure that's 7 months to gain 15 lbs of muscle- balls out training and aggressive HRT program combined with the higher carb intake while staying on creatine throughout til Feb should give me a shot at it. It's not going to be easy once winter hits here so trying to get it done as much as possible by Thanksgiving. We will see.
