Both of theses are bad for your heart if to high, so how would one treat this if to high or keep it at a normal range???im sure many of you had blood work done its on the copy you get... thank you

Niacin is one of the most touted for this solution.

The best product to lower LDL would be 10mg of Policosanol. In clinical studies it dropped LDL 21-29% and increased HDL by 15%. It is just about as effective as statins plus it raises HDL. Get the one derived from sugar cane as its most potent.

u could take a fish oil supplement, also animal products are high in cholesterol... watch ur oils and saturated fats, and always look on the nutrition facts for cholesterol. a healthy range would be no higher than 300mg of cholesterol a day. Lastly regular exercise increases HDL output.

Dietary cholesterol does not always relate to LDL and HDL in the blood. There is much much more to it than that. Policosinals are the most potent reducer of LDL aside from statin meds which are very hepatotoxic.

From what I have read most of the reseach on policosanol was conducted by a single research group in Cuba that owns the policosanol patent.

Independant research has been less conclusive.

Ya I just searched my schools online journal data base and found many inconclusive studies on it. A few of my teachers were talking about the wonders of sugar cane derived policosanols in a alternative for hypercholesterolemia so I wonder where she got the info from. Maybe more recent studies have been done. Ill have to ask.

And here are some more I found:

Garlic about 4g/day which is about 5-20 fresh cloves a day!
But somewhat controversial like policosanols

Guggal lipid
500mg/3times per day
Indian J Med Res 1988; 87:356-360.

Fenugreek
-25 grams of powdered fenugreek seed, divided into two servings and consumed as soup 15 minutes prior to lunch and dinner
-hypoglycemic and hypocholesterolemic effects
After 24 weeks it decreased LDL, TGs, and VLDL. Also a 10% increase in HDL

One thing that you might want to look into is a product called Sesamin. I do not have any studies on it, but I have been hearing that it is really good at lowering cholesterol. Not sure if it is specific to LDL though.

There are two types of LDL, the large fluffy boyant type is not dangerous to your health, which is what increase from fats. So just checking LDL is useless.

Avoid statin drugs like the plague unless you want to develop the statin-shuffle walk.

I see doctors posting in major newspaper in Sweden that it is actually worse to medicate high cholesterol, since it is the way body protects itself.

The smaller LDL type is coming from sugars and carbs and is the the dangerous one that can actually cause inflamation in the wall of the blood vessels.

I suggest giving up completely on sugars, stay low on carbs if you have carbs have them in original packaging by nature, non refined.

Bump your fats also saturated fats from butter, cream, steak etc.
