I appologize for the size issues, I didn't take these pics so I had to get them off of someone else's CPU and I think that i didn't say them as the normal size. Anyways here goes some pics when I was 17 weeks out in 2009 (from the Mr. SRU). I know that my legs are my weak bodypart, last offseason I had to take 2.5 months off of training quads and some hamstrings because of some knee problems. Therefore, I didn't have much time to make the improvements I would have liked.

thank you I appreciate it. I am currently in the midst of a 2 year off season to make some improvements. I am going to be competing in 2011 but I am not exaclty sure what shows i'll be hitting. I was thinking about trying to earn my natural pro card in several organizations, also thought about doing the Team Universe as well as an NGA Natural Pro Show. Seems like a lot but I plan on possibly doing around 5 shows.....I can't guarantee it but just a possibility. Sorry for the mass amount of pics haha I know I added a ton!

1. SRU was my colleges bodybuilding show that had opened/closed class, and was actually very competitive and wasn't an NPC santioned show but was judged by NPC judges as well as head judge Dr. Gary Udit.

2. The big check was from the Mr. SRU haha.

3. I'm 5'9".

HOw tall are you....what are ur weights offseason/inseason.....what other shows have u competed in and what shows do you plan on competing in after ur upcoming one.....Also like i asked b4 do you have an progress pics or anything

Yes, I do have progress pics. However they aren't up. Few people on this board will be competing against me. I want to shock everyone when I peel off back stage. If I'm coming off cocky, I'm really not that type of person, being well prepared, having every little detail 100%, an amazing team of supporters behind me, in turn causes me to feel confident about things.
I am 5'11'' and will weigh in around 210lbs morning of show. Got up to 240lbs this off season. Only goal is to get natural pro card in 6 weeks. After show is done I will talk with my camp about what we feel is best for me to do next. As far as past shows. They were as a Junior(21 and under). 6 Shows total. Won local, provincial, and national levels and competed at 2 Worlds. Now, that chapter is closed and its time to get that NGA Pro Card :)

I can slightly understand ur reasoning, me personally though I wouldn't really care about shocking the fellow competitors, I would be worried about shocking hte judges. I don't think that you are cocky at all, everyone does things differently and that is just the way you handle yourself! Having a strong team is extremly important, I personally have a very strong team of supporters and couldn't ask for me (besides someone to cook my food for me haha ;-) ).

If I were you I would not worry about being a specific weight, I would just worry about coming in ur very best. From 2008 to 2009 I personally put on around a solid 8lbs of muscle after having a short, yet very productive offseason (I would call it my first true offseason in doing things the correct way with eating a much cleaner diet and training my tail off).

This offseason I'm taking a full 2 years off to make some big gains. Thus far I am currently at 255lbs (as of tonight post training), which i am very very happy about especially considering that my abs can still be seen- not pretty but can be seen haha. My goal is to hit around 205lbs on stage this year but in all reality I just want to be bigger and leaner- if I do that I don't care much about my weight as long as i dont lose a lot of muscle!

that's awesome that you have competing in that many comps. as a junior. did you win the overall in all of those shows, if not how did you place????

David. Why the natural route? Are you one of those dudes that "pass the test" then consider yourself natural? You've got some feckin good genetics, would you consider going the NPC route? (as I said, I want to hear what makes you tick.. not interested in your daily macros!)

hahahaha no i don't just pass the test....I am lifetime natural, never have taken a prohoromone or anything like it. I once took like a week of blue up (controlled labs natural test booster) which was like 2 years ago. I could never understand why ppl take banned substances and then "pass the test" and consider themselves natural, it's not like there is a lot of exposure to get in natural bodybuilding. I have been asked the steroid question thousands and thousands of times but all I can say is I've been tested twice, passed obviously...have no reason to compete in natural shows if i was using... becuz theres not money to be made or something and that if you don't believe me I will take a drug test etc.. at anytime. I just hate how ppl cheat in natural shows, like for what dang reason it's not like ur going ot become a millionaire or make a living off of it.

As far as the NPC I've done the NPC natural ohio. I don't know about going into a normal NPC show, I've been told by several ppl that I should to see how I stack up but idk. Also thanks for the great compliment, genetics are obviously huge in bodybuilding..if you don't have the genetics theres nothing that can be done!

As far as why the natural route, I have been training since I was 13. the longest I have taken off in that time consecutively is about 3 weeks (no ride to the gym- still did small stuff at home). Never really considered not training natural. My mentor from high school is a natural competitor and from day 1 told me that I had what it took to be a great natural bodybuilder. I have made great gains naturally just from putting my heart and soul into it, rather than taking an easy route. I try to do everything by the books- consistency, hard training, rest, diet, etc... and learn as much as possible. I also have a great team surrounding me and I couldn't ask for more! I get the comment all the time that ppl think I have what it takes to be an IFBB pro with help but I'm perfectly happy doing what I am doing!

Very true about shocking the judges.
Not worried about weight at all, just know roughly thats where I'll end up this time around. We only go by appearance, no weight class in the overall! :)
I personally don't want anyone touching my food. Like to make sure it is cooked and weighed to my standard. Off-season though. BBQ me some chicken breast please!
Wrote in previous post my placings, for the most part. Oh yeah, jr. is all one weight class so I guess thats what you meant. No overall for Juniors. Open, one class.

Yeahhh buddy, thats good sometimes ppl get tooo caught up on their final weight. In reality if you are leaner you will look bigger... Sorry I misunderstood your competition history b4, I've competed in the Junior class at the NPC Natural Ohio (23yrs and younger) and actually was fortunate enough to win the class (around 20 competitors or so).

I'm def. looking forward to see what you bring to the stage, at least let us know how the prep is going.

Prep is going well. Longer I been training the more dense and mature muscle looks. Skin is the thinnest it has ever been and we still have 6 weeks to go. Made some changes to diet and up'd cardio slightly starting Monday. Haven't dropped any carbs since diet started at 14 weeks out, usually we have to drop back 10-30 grams every few weeks but this time around we haven't.Only 2 cheat meals so far in 8 weeks of dieting and only because we felt I needed them. I don't expect anymore though. Hopefully just cruise on in the next 5 weeks and then enjoy the carb/slightly fat load week of the show.

David Turk has an awesome physique...comes close to a Jim Cordova. There is no getting around the hard work that has been put in.

I know a few guys who do NGA shows and they use prohormones...the competed passed the tests and did very well.

NGA under there drug testing policy allows prohormones, Turk's physique looks like prohormones. This is what is said about their testing policies on their website.

Note: DHEA and all other hormone precursors are not banned by the NGA.

I dont get it

Hey David I am a natural athlete as well. I was wondering what is your regement for the off season in terms of nutrition?
How many calories per lean pound of bodyweight or bodyweight do you consume? What is your macro breakdown?

Throughout my offseason diet I make consistent increases to my macros to increase my calories. I don't just jump into my offseason and raise my calories extremly high. ATM my calories are somewhere around 4,800......around 350-400Protein/500-575Carbs/110-130Fat depending. I don't follow any kind of calculation I just slowly increase my protein carbs and fat. I tend to increase my carbs more than anything and will make small changes to protein and fat! I hope this helps.

I attended the NPC Pittsburgh this past weekend and must say that it was an extremly exhausting day....but was an incredible show with unbelievable depth! It seems like there was a lot more competition since Feroce won the overall last year. The guest posers were amazing as you can imagine! Dennis Wolf was standing about 1 foot directly in front of me hitting poses in the isle.

One of the best parts of the show was when a guy walked by me, took a double look, then turned back around and was like "Is your name Dave Turk." Of course I was confused and said "yeah man do I know you"....and he said something along hte lines of... "Dude you are amazing! I seen your 20 week diet progression video that is unreal man, very inspirational!" Obviously I was shocked and taken back that he knew who i was from that video but I was very grateful and humbled that he noticed me and was excited about it! haha

Recent video of me squatting at Pure Athletex Gym in Wexford PA. The gentleman spotting me is Optimum Nutrition sponsored athlete Derek Ciocca!

This was the first time I've ever gone this heavy without knee wraps/knee sleeve due to a knee issue. I was extremly happy with how it felt and went especially because for the past month of so I've been only staying around 315 and hitting high reps!

Hey John thanks a ton, I am very suprised to see you on my thread! I am still hitting it very hard and after my 2 year offseason is all said and done I am hoping to have a solid 10lbs of lean mass put on! I think that it is a realistic goal considering that my legs need to make a lot of improvements which i think I've done a good job of thus far and am still hoping to do more of in the year i have left. Thanks again man it is very motivational for you to stop by.

what training methods do you advocate the most? HIT volume DC or max OT...? im about your size as well and am always looking for good ways to switch things up that i might not have thought of.

I have done Max-OT in the past and have really liked it for strength gain, the only issue i had with it was that there wasn't enough change in the training system.

A training system that I really liked and seen a lot of great results off this offseason is the P/RR/S (Power/Rep range/Shock) training system by Eric Broser. It is a 3 week rotation that I think is great because you get a combination of a strength week- good for gaining muscle because of the improved strenght you will see....rep range week for muscle gain and a shock week which is great for keeping your muscles guessing. I personally changed the system to fit my needs and really loved it.

Right now I am doing a 4 week rotation, which is basically: Power, low to high reps pyramid, high to low reps pyramid (I call it progressive overaload) and then rep range (10-12).

I hope this helps.

Hey everyone, just a little update on whats going on....

Currently in the process of doing an 8 week cut (i'm just about 4 weeks in)....I started the cut right around 260lbs and am down to 241lbs (as of friday). Still hoping to get down to hopefully around 230 if not even a little lower!

The reason for the cut was that I was maxed out: I have never been as heavy as 261lbs. I was very happy with my conditioning at that weight especially because I made it to that weight following a very specific offseason meal plan. I also knew that I was at my limit for not looking terrible......my abs could still be seen (obvioulsy they werent shredded) and if I would have gained more weight they would have been adios!

I see this opportunity as a great chance to grow. I have had a little over a full year of an offseason which I believe has been extremely productive. After this cut I am going to go back on a mass gaining offseason meal plan and hope to get a nice rebound from the short diet.

Besides taht everything is great! Training is still going great, hitting sum of my best numbers still so the diet isn't affecting anything. Take care everyone.

Hello Gentlemen, I finally decided to get some pictures taken- the quality is not the best because they were taken with my cell phone but they did the job....

Right now, I am currently in the midst of a mini-cut, I started right around 260lbs (sorry no pictures, I was very busy at the time...wish I would have got some) and took these pics right at 240lbs (currently I am around 236lbs).

These pics were taken after hitting chest so I actually have a pump for once when taking pictures! I really feel that I have made my best improvements thus far, that is thanks to Joey Salorino helping me this year with my offseason training and dieting plan. Also, I've had some amazing training partners to push me (Steve and PJ earlier in the offseason and I finally reunited with Big Derek and now have Anthony training with us as well- who is a pure strength beast).

For the offseason dieting plan I actually followed a specific eating plan which made things sooooo much more productive. For my training plan we utitlized different techniques and I completely changed my form on just about everything- increased my range of motion and kept more of a strict form.

Let me know what you think!

I think that you did something similar to what I did for a full 12 or so months in 2009. Basically, I skipped last year as a Jr. because I did the biggest shows I could and wanted to focus on packing on enough size to stand with the big boys and compete for natty pro card. I got up to 240lbs and competed at 195 with a lot more size, fullness and density. So mission accomplished. I am assuming you are doing the same thing for your first pro show and I think it is whats needed every so often to get to that next level so to speak. Only thing is when your that big it is hard to see improvements untill fat comes off cuz everything looks BIG.

Whats up amigo, haven't been really active on any of the boards but I def. always check up on everything current in bodybuilding. My training is going great, my training partner and I just began a new training program.

We tweaked it slightly to fit our needs but the main principles comes from NGA Pro Eric Broser's P/RR/S (Power/Rep Range/Shock).
www.prrstraining.com/sample.htm (http://www.prrstraining.com/sample.htm)

I did an alteration of his training system during the 1st year of my offseason and really loved it---mainly thought that it has helped me progress without plateauing off. This time around I'm going to follow it more to how he has it planned out.

hahahaha no i don't just pass the test....I am lifetime natural, never have taken a prohoromone or anything like it.

Also thanks for the great compliment, genetics are obviously huge in bodybuilding..if you don't have the genetics theres nothing that can be done!

awesome thread david.. very informative and your transformation is very inspiring - reminds people like us to give ourselves plenty of time to do what we gotta do to get in shape..

was curious about this comment on supps.. - is natty test boosters like blue-up considered not natural? or is it on the list of banned sub for nga? i figured stuff like PH/DS would not be legit but natty test boosters are not good?

Natural test boosters are legal but I just don't like the idea of taking them. I have nothing against them or anyone else who takes them, I just don't see them as necessary. Also thank you for the great compliments, always appreciated!

I am currently mapping out my 2011 competition season. Still not exactly complete/fully accurate but at this point I am possibly looking at the IFPA Gaspari Classic in October....if I place top 5 in my weight class then the IFPA Yorton Cup (Biggest show for the IFPA). Then in early November the NGA Pro Universe. (Will be using my NGA pro status to compete in IFPA shows.)

I thought about hitting the NPC Team Universe in July, but was sick etc... for a month and have just been getting back to where i was. Also, I would have to qualify at an NPC show around the time period and I can't find a full NPC schedule....

Besides that i wanted to hit some natural shows-IFPA and NGA (NGA to keep my natural pro card) so if there is any advice or suggestions i'd appreciate it.
