Did you ask to get on their wait list? If that's the host hotel, it probably has many blocks that are already reserved by the various sponsors and involved groups. But there always seems to be cancellations - maybe as it gets closer to the show. You should probably also check out some of the other nearby hotels.

Yes, I asked to be placed on the waiting list, I want to stay at the Hyatt cause it's attached to the expo so I don't need to wear a jacket, it got really hot in there and I want to be able to come and go.

hmm they dont usually let you reserve until later. I usually book mine in like may for the next year. I have never known them to let you reserve it this early...

There's a few other hotels on the shuttle bus route, so as long as you can get in at one of those, it shouldn't be so bad...
My friend and I stayed about 15 minutes away in Worthington and it actually wasn't bad at all. It was right off the highway, had a Metro Fitness about a mile away and we found a 24-hour grocery store so we were totally hooked up. Of course, we drove from NJ so we had the freedom to come and go and do all those things. Plus the hotel was decently priced and had a mini kitchen... sweet!
We had to park in the decks (most of which were always full) and walk, but I didn't wear a jacket either day and thankfully the weather was cooperative, so I didn't really need to.

ahh it might show its booked but I doubt it is:)...I either get a room at that Hyatt or the one 2 blocks over every year and we always book around May. For some reason they wont let you book now for the next year until a certain time. I will find out more and let you know. ;)

That's what I was thinking, there is no way it can be booked.

I called and talked to the lady. She said it is booked and booked me at room at 2nd Hyatt(capital square) 2 blocks over. I would keep calling. I know people book and cancel.Plus there are a few others right there. Check into the other Hyatt or the other ones close.

The reason they are booked is because the Hyatt contracts out all the rooms to the Arnold group. Thats how all the companies get there rooms, directly from the Arnold people. They usually release the rooms about 2-3 weeks before the Arnold. We talked to the manager.

Alot of people I know who stayed there arent part of the arnold group they were just regular people who knew to book early enough.I have stayed at that hotel a few times and booked my room in May.In the past while I stayed at the hotel I wanted to book for the next year and they wouldnt let me and I was told they didnt start reserving rooms for the event until a little while after the arnold was over. It seems they have changed things though. This year they charged us all 3 nights on jan 15th with no refund but hadnt done that before. I am gonna call back a few times, I have a feeling they are gonna release rooms or people will cancel.

The Hampton Inn is literally right across the street from the entrance doors to the Expo center and probably is a shorter walk than if you were to stay in the host hotel. Granted, you'd have to go outside to cross the street to get to the Expo, but you could easily forgo the jacket or umbrella or whatever and be just fine.

Here's what seems to me like good advice from Joe Bayer of HDPhysiques.com which he posted on another board:
Here's an insider tip.... most all of the downtown hotels that are connected or across the street from the conv center set aside MOST of their rooms for Lorimer's group (which are then distributed to sponsors, athletes, high rollers like HDP, etc...). The rooms that are NOT included in those blocks (every hotel leaves a few aside, even the Hyatt) *USUALLY* do not get released for reservations until late April or May, for the following year. So in other words, you need to call on say, April 15th, or May 1st, depending on the hotel. That's why so many people get pissed off every year when they leave the Arnold = trying to book for next year, and are told they can't, but then they hear that someone else booked a year earlier. Well, those who got their rooms a year earlier most likely DID NOT book it 12 months earlier, but rather 10 or 10.5 months earlier.

Joe hit it on the head with how it works but if you call around May or so and keep checking you'll find a good deal.
