That is great news. If I may ask, where did you get that intel? I like Ericca a lot. Check out the epitome of feminine physiques thread. I posted A LOT of Ericca Kern pics. Now will she come back as a FBB or FIT/FIG or God forbid Bikini? Nothing against the beautiful bikini competitors. I just want more muscle.

I agree, great news. However, by the sound of things she is planning at this point on coming back in figure rather than bodybuilding. Also, according to her she has yet to get permission from the IFBB to come back to competition. From her Facebook page :

Ericca Kern (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000002916407&ref=mf) If IFBB allows me to compete again I just realized that I will now have to do quarter turns in 6" heels... I was used to barefeet.... This may require a different type of coordination... The positive?... I get to go shoe shopping!!

My true love is the iron and the bodybuilding..I just don't think that after 10 years I could gain the size I'd need to stand on stage next to everyone in the BB division.

For those not familiar with her, here's a short bio and her competitive history from BB.com:

As the middle of three children, Ericca was often playfully 'tormented' by her siblings and was nicknamed "Bones" in obvious reference to her very thin framework. Though sleight of size in her childhood, Ericca always maintained an eager athleticism. However, due to her family's frequent moves, she was not able to play organized sports until finally settling in Hermantown Minnesota in 1975. At 18 years of age, what she also found was an eating disorder, albeit minor, it was nontheless quite unhealthy. Even though Ericca was rather thin (110-125 lbs) she convinced herself she was fat and would literally starve herself for days and, all the while, run 10 miles per day. She would then binge on ice cream and pizza and then run twice that day. Food was controlling her life. All that changed in 1985 when she found the tiny weight room at the University. Suddenly, she realized it was O.K. to eat and gained 35 pounds of mostly muscle in six months. It was at this time that she picked up her first bodybuilding magazine and was bitten by the bodybuilding bug.. Bodybuilding was put on hold temporarily in 1987 as Ericca married for the first time, graduated from UMD and gave birth to her daughter Jessica in 1988. After a divorce in 1992, Ericca met her current husband and begain training for her first bodybuilding show that she won in grand fashion. After a string of bodybuilding competition successes locally, in Minnesota, and at the national level Ericca and family moved to Irvine, California in January of 1995. And at the 1995 North American Championships, Ericca won the overall title and earned her Pro card.

1998 Ms. International Results, 13th
1997 Ms. International Results, 14th
1996 Ms. International Results, 15th
1995 North American, 1st Heavyweight and Overall Champ (Pro Card)

1994 NPC Nationals, 5th Heavyweight
1994 Jr. USA, 1st Heavyweight
1992 Minnesota State, 1st Heavyweight
1992 Gopher State, 1st Heavyweight and Overall Champ

That really sucks to hear that yet another great fem bber may consider something other than bodybuilding simply because she feels the girls are too big to compete. Thanks Femphysiquefan for the photos. You found one of my all-time favs of her in the black suit.

Where did she say she thought the girls of bbing today are too big? She said after 10 yrs she didn't think she could gain the necessary mass to compete. That doesn't mean she disapproves of the mass just that she feels she lacks it.

Very cool videos and bio, good sir! Thank you for posting them, Jeremy.

Kim Chizevsky moved from IFBB Pro bodybuilding to Figure competition, didn't she?* I would hope that Kern is given the same consideration.

*Googled! Chizevsky won her final Olympia (so far) in 1999 and reemerged as a Figure athlete in 2003 at the IFBB Show of Strength Pro Championship where she placed 9th.

Ericca Kern didn't. But by my interpretation neither did Carolyn Bryant.

Carolyn, imo, was saying that Kern believes "the girls are too big to compete" against. Too big relative to her own development after ten years out of the game. Here is Kern's quote again:

"Hi Myriam.. My true love is the iron and the bodybuilding..I just don't think that after 10 years I could gain the size I'd need to stand on stage next to everyone in the BB division."

You're right (again, imo), GM, Kern never stated today's FBB are too big. Just that she's not sure if she could hang.

She is in great shape. Smaller now, yes?

Clifta Coulter did the same thing. She used to compete as a bodybuilder in the early 90s. She recently made a come back as a figure competitor with a much smaller body.

http://vintagemusclemags.com/magCovers/plan/plan0101.jpgYou mention that Kim Chizevsky reemerged as a figure competitor in 2003 after winning her last Olympia in 1999. The fact is that Kim also tried Pro Fitness in 2001 when she placed 6th in the Fitness International. She also entered the 2002 Southwest Pro Fitness in Dallas and was injured during her routine and had to withdraw. Her two ventures into Pro Figure were the Show of Strength in 2003 and '04. She placed 9th in '03 and 7th in '04. Her attempts to enter the Pro Fitness events were painful to watch. She simply wasn't cut out to be a fitness competitor.
