This is always a super show and plan to be there again. I have a few friends competing and others attending, so it will be fun to catch up with everyone.

Jeff and Rick, have seen you compete before and look forward to seeing you on stage again. And best of luck to all the competitors.

Are you chittin me? whats the point of that? I want to have to earn it! Yeah I competed in NPC events but I was told I had to win my class at this regional qualifier coming up!

Oh well I need to win this qual anyway. Its a big deal show round here. The promoter is IFBB Pro Mike Horn and its a big deal. Hell Dave Rx P. the man himself is coming to cover it!

You know it would be great if Dave would make an appearance on the Master forum to acknowledge the level of excellence on HIS site. Rally the "team" if you will. He may very well have some potential pros on this forum.

I may do the over 50 (not sure what weight class) if I can get in condition.
I'm finding out that I have extra skin that I don't really need..... where did that come from??? LOL

hifrommike65
04-29-2010, 05:23 AM
As for tanning, Jim Hampton blew the 50s Masters Nats contest in 2004 by walking onstage with no tan at all. I heard he felt it wasn't necessary & the emphasis should be on physique alone, but he looked like a ghost & it may have cost him first place in his class (he got 2nd). The head judge at the end of prejudging lineups literally said, "That's all, men. Please put on a tan offstage." Hampton came back in 2006 with a tan & took the class & got his pro card in the 50s. He did bring an overall package that was better that year, btw.

Mentioned the same to Eric, and don't think he will make that mistake again.

No one was beating Efferding last year anyway, regardless of color, but Eric could have been 3rd with a solid tan.

HeavyDutyGuy
04-29-2010, 02:17 PM
Efferding was just too tough. Take notes guys- powerlifting- 800 deads and squats bench has to be around 600. then used that ungodly strength and high repped it with Flex Wheeler for afew months (ok probaablby had Flex's stash too, but still...) . Got my ass kicke dlast year. Wont make the same mistake again (Attn reviewer for RX- I dont want to read "undersized, conditioning is off"- wont happen next time.. Note- Eric also did powerlifting I thin he had close to a 800 dead-- sense a pattern emerging here?

I totally agree Power lifters make the best BB's My training partner like wise: he stays around 290 offseason and diets to 235-250 squatted 900, deads 800 and I think his bench was close to 600 maybe it was 550 but he does bunch of reps w 405 on the incline still now hopefully we can get him his pro card this year conditioning is the hardest part for you monsters! Hell now that I said that it is the hardest for me too!

I began my quest to compete again October 2007. Competed in the NPC Mid-Michigan April 2008, 3 months training then 3 months dieting. I have been attempting to add quality muscle, training through and dealing with multiple minor to moderate injuries.

I begin my prep June 6 for the October 2 NPC Natural Northern Ohio in Lakewood (Cleveland, OH area). Then I plan to reassess training, nutrition, SUPPLEMENTS... and train for 2 years solid before attempting a state level open show in the 40+.

My goal is to compete at the Masters Nationals by age 45.

Best wishes to everyone competing this year. I hope to actually attend this event in 2011. But now it's balls out training plus work for me...

There was a rule change this year. Here is the link:

http://georgia-bodybuilding.com/NPC%20%20Updated%20Rules%20BB2.pdf

If it doesn't work for you, google "NPC Bodybuilding Division Rules"
I was prepping for the Masters National and didn't find out about this until a few weeks ago. I've decided to do the All Forces Nationals instead.

Thanks, had heard same about the tickets.

Best of luck VMAN.

In night show starting at 5PM, all competitors in a class are introduced, but only top 5 in each BB weight class will pose, max of 60 seconds. In the past with class of 6, all six posed and received trophies. Thinnk that will remain. But 7 or more in a class, it is top 5 only. Class winners in a division (over 40, over 50 etc.) return for comparisons and pose down after all classes in that division have been judged.

THEVMAN

Thanks! I read that in 2008 there were 400+ competitors for Masters Nats and prejudging met at 4pm and got out at midnight - wow - does anyone know if you get plenty of lead time to pump up, I heard the State Calf show went from 8am to 3pm and my friend came in flat with the bad timing and no lead on when he would be judged. I know we have to be prepared food wise, but peeking timing I guess can be a challenge at some shows.

Great, Anglican. I landed in 2nd and 3rd rows last two years. Great view.

Best of luck, Chris D.

In 2008, men's Friday pre judge was at 5pm and I think it ended around 9:30. This year it starts at 4pm. Night show has gone past midnight on Saturday, and over 40 men are the last group to compete. So peaking can be a real problem.

Pump room is small, should have some time to pump up. No dumbbells allowed, have to bring towel or exercise bands for pump up.

No problem, have been to eight of the last nine shows working with different competitors, so I know the drill by now. Will be a fun time.

Let me comment on the quality of the mens Masters competitors at the Nationals. Across the board in the O40s and O50s there is amazing depth in all weight classes. Most other Open shows I have seen in person or on the web pale in comparrison. Yes they have a man here or there that stands out but not like the Masters Nationals. This IS the best show out there. I though the O60s and 70s last year were surprisingly weak after such a show of force in the 40s 50s.

So if you are competing or attending you are in store for long days and nights and a guaranteed Bodybuilding feast of quality muscle.

Tough show. Unless youre going to do the regular Nationals or USA's I dont think youre going to find a much tougher show. Of course that will be part of the fun, beating the best amateurs and being the best yourself... If that isnt motivating, then what is?

Amen, this a very difficult, competitive but also a fun and rewarding and motivational show. I have seen competitors return year after year just to compete.

Chris, you will get through Saturday night. Look forward to seeing you.

Last I know, Rodney Roller is not competing. He decided to wait for North Americans. Not that any of the classes are easy.

This year over 50 will have same classes as over 40 (including welter). The over 50 gets better and more competitive every year. Should be good.

Form Gary's site:

MEN - Over 40 and Over 50

Bantamweight:Up to & including 143-1/4 lbs
Lightweight:Over 143-1/4 lbs up to & including 154-1/4 lbs
Welterweight:Over 154-1/4 lbs up to & including 165-1/4 lbs
Middleweight:Over 165-1/4 lbs up to & including 176-1/4 lbs
Light Heavyweight:Over 176-1/4 lbs up to & including 198-1/4 lbs
Heavyweight:Over 198-1/4 lbs up to & including 225-1/4 lbs
Super Heavyweight:Over 225-1/4 lbs
MEN - Over 60

If all of you come in at your best, then you are all champions. Can't control what happens on stage, only yourself. Be your personal best, and that is a victory. The rest is out of your hands.

Should be a very competitive event. look forward to seeing everyone.
