I am terrible with make up...I'm a under eye conceler and light broner type of girl!!

Anyway, I think my make up looked "ok" at my shows last year, I did good with lips and the foundation match, but I think my eyes looked a bit drowned out. <---you can see from my avi

I want to experiment a bit more with eye make up. I read some where that my eye shadow shouldn't match the color of my suit. I got a shinny metallic green suit. What colors do you think would go best?:dunno:

I love smokey eyes....and it suits almost everyone. Don't wear a bright lipstick though, wear a beige/nude or pink.

I'm allways afraid I will end up looking like a racoon if I try the smokey eye look! Any application tips?

You can do a smokey eye with a touch of green/teal but you don't have to be matchy matchy. The smokey eye always looks good on stage with proper contouring of the eye, etc. Also, make sure you apply false lashes as it will open up your eyes even more!
I disagree about wearing bright lip colors...when under the stage lights, it will look completely different. If you wear no lip color at all, you might look washed out.
If you want more detailed information, I can make exact suggestions on what products to buy depending on your budget. I'm a MAC girl (and employee) so I might be a bit biased with my suggestions. :)

Agree w/ SC -- since you're under harsh stage lights w/ a pile of dark tan on, its pretty much all about big stage makeup. I feel like a drag queen when I get decked out for stage time. W/ the dark tan you need to have your facial features stand out. Most of the colors and the amount of make up you wear under normal conditions would be completely washed out on stage.

If you're using protan as your stage tan, you can use MAC NW45 (pretty sure its NW and not NC -- the darker of the two) as your face tan - it matches perfectly. Then you can go to the MAC counter, get a container of that foundation and schedule to have one of the makeup artists show you how to apply it and pick some good colors. You could even bring in your suit so you can show the contrast w/ the foundation and pick a nice complementary touch of color to the smokey eye to go w/ it. This also gives you a change to experiment w/ lip color if you want to see what the different colors look like / what looks best and doesnt' detract from the whole thing.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I don't think I want to spen the $$ on MAC products.

last year I bought Loreal True Match- Toated Almond. I liked the way it was on my skin, smooth not cakey, and it lasted all day. I just needed to buy a darker color (saw that after the pictures).

I guess I'll look at some nice gold/teal color shadows.
What do you think of purples?

What show are you doing Lisa? If it's in Jersey I will be there and maybe I can help.
The problem with True Match is not that you might need something darker but that when you use a foundation with SPF it will reflect off the lights and give you a white-ish cast.

Also foundation with SPF reflects light which will effect flash photography make you look washed out.

I know other ladies that have used Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse foundation there is no SPF in it looks good if you don't want to spend the money on MAC. Other drug store products that are very good with a great shade selection is NYX there eye shadow and blushes are really nice. One thing that is worth spending the money on is a good eye primer I highly recommend urban decay primer potion it will help the shadow colour pop not crease and last all day and night. Also what you apply your makeup with is as important as how brushes are going to give a way better application then any of those sponge tip applicators. If you’re looking to do your own makeup even with drugs store brands to get the best results for stage there will be a decent investment of money in products.

What colour are your eyes?

Oh wow. I didn't know that about SPF.
SW- I'll be competing next Sat the 12th at the Garden State Classic. I'm going to do my make up at home before I leave though. But thank you so much for the tips so far!!

Dayna- my eyes are brown, hair is brown with honel/carmel color high-lights.
I'll look into the Maybelline. Any shade reccomendations? I will be using Pro-Tan.

Either caramel or cocoa those are the darkest colours you could get both and use cocoa the darkest one to countour your face.

Brown eyes your lucky all most all colours look good with it. I find that a complmentry colour looks nice to with suits for green that would be red but obviosly that is a little extreme you could go with like a rust colour.

You can do a smokey eye with more then just black and greys. I would take a either a black or dark brown khole pencil (Rimmel is a good drug store brand or milani) line the upper and lower lash line as well as water line. Then smduge out the line with a finger. Take a pencil brush (http://www.sigmamakeup.com/products/708.html) and line around the upper and lower with Dark Brown. Then take a fluffy crease brush ( http://www.sigmamakeup.com/products/709.html) and apply the bronze as a light wash to the lid. In the outer crease with the fluffy crease brush use the rust colour in the trio then in the upper crease again with the fluffy crease brush use the copper colour finally apply high light to the brow bone (http://www.sigmamakeup.com/products/710.html).

If you don't have brushes you could buy this travel kit here save a lot of money and be set with good quality brushes http://www.sigmamakeup.com/products/7015.html

Get everything like a month or two in advance and do a bunch of trial runs tell you feel confidant. :)

So found a smokey eye "kit". it has all the shades I need plus picture instructions! I also got some glitter shadows to try out. If I don't like those I can give them to my daughter.

I'll be getting spray tanned next Thursday and the salon is right across the street from CVS so I'll go in to get the foundation stuff once I'm all painted up.
