I posted pics of Larissa Reis and gasp Nicole Wilkins Lee in a sports forum's section of random hot chicks just to see how they reacted and they got all insecure and started saying "who are those guys" and the thread ahs become gay or there is a certain butchiness to it. While I am not suggesting that we as a community should stop trying to grow and expand our boundaries, at the same time, we should not be so completely undone when something does not work or mesh well with what is clearly an outside world.

Liken it to the preschool shape puzzle. Try as the child might to put the square block through the circle hole, it is not going. Not even by force. Same thing here. At some point... maybe... the right fit will finally take place.

Then again, it may never happen. This also cannot be a bad thing. We can still consider the bodybuilding lifestyle (in our own respective ways) raw and pure. Is there really a need or desire to dilute that from the outside? And if so, to what extent? Granted, bodybuilding to the outside world may not be what it once was, or experience the positive attention that it once did, but good or bad, change is inevitable. Such is life. But all things considered, it still is not as bad as one would think.

The biggest problem is negative media attention, and the fact that the masses are easily swayed. If we find the way to change that, we find the way to change acceptance more to our liking.

I guess the one bright side, IB, is that you aren't alone on that board. From what I read that guy called "TheLongShot" has pretty much been taking your side so far. And yeah, guys like this are always going to frown on muscular women. TomNine found out that a video clip of his had been posted in a thread in another forum and it got a similar reaction (http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=20761935&blogId=256323472). And that was involving Melissa Froio, another figure competitor. For me is just simply comes down to ego. These guys' egos simply do not allow them to handle the idea of a woman being as strong or stronger than they are. We guys seem to have this unwritten rule that a woman can't or shouldn't be as strong as a man, and whenever this "rule" gets violated they can't and won't tolerate it. I've always considered that stupid. At this point, I'm pretty much convinced that to appreciate female muscle as a guy, you either have to suppress your ego, take it down a peg or two or dispose of it completely. Short of that happening on a gender-wide scale, however, I have to reluctantly agree that these women will never be accepted, either by most guys or the public at large. But remember, THEY are the ones who are missing out. :)

You might want to read the first page to get a perspective of what I'm talking about. We talk about weight training and OTA's and Mini -camp, Training camp and stuff like that so it is not a foreign concept to these fellows. But a slightly buff woman freaks them out. It is not even contest pics except for the first one. Geez... i'll check in the morning to see if responses have changed. I played a few cards of my own to see if there is still hope. If it does not work, nothing will.

I guess the one bright side, IB, is that you aren't alone on that board. From what I read that guy called "TheLongShot" has pretty much been taking your side so far. And yeah, guys like this are always going to frown on muscular women. TomNine found out that a video clip of his had been posted in a thread in another forum and it got a similar reaction (http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=20761935&blogId=256323472). And that was involving Melissa Froio, another figure competitor. For me is just simply comes down to ego. These guys' egos simply do not allow them to handle the idea of a woman being as strong or stronger than they are. We guys seem to have this unwritten rule that a woman can't or shouldn't be as strong as a man, and whenever this "rule" gets violated they can't and won't tolerate it. I've always considered that stupid. At this point, I'm pretty much convinced that to appreciate female muscle as a guy, you either have to suppress your ego, take it down a peg or two or dispose of it completely. Short of that happening on a gender-wide scale, however, I have to reluctantly agree that these women will never be accepted, either by most guys or the public at large. But remember, THEY are the ones who are missing out. :)


There is another guy apart from TheLongshot. He has posted a few pics before I posted. I decided to test the waters so to speak. I can get She's pretty but athletic girls are not my cup of tea, but not the outright hostility from those stupid commenters. They see a woman with muscle (and probably more than they have) as something that they could not control. They want weak women. Even if she is not weak (mentally or physically), as long as she LOOKS weak, that caters to and satisfies the male ego, putting him in the proper place in the pecking order.

In the past I have wondered if people have become more accepting of it but the truth is no they have not. This is why all the threads we made about using fbbs in movies like Wonder woman and other strong women will not work. Sad but true.

Sad but true.Back when we were still doing WPW I had a letter (back in 1985) from a sports writer who worked for large mid-western newspaper and he made a terrific point regarding an editorial I had written about how slow the acceptance was regarding the muscular woman. He had an interesting take on the public's perception of the 'new' fit female. Basically he was saying that he hoped women's bodybuilding never became totally commercialized or mainstream because it would lose its uniqueness in how women chose to display their bodies. And to put into further perceptive, he stated that we shouldn't be surprised that the general public is slow to react positively to an muscularly built female.......and here's what he said that still rings clear in my mind today........"This country has been screwing around with the problem of racism for 300 hundred years and we STILL don't have it right. How can we expect a complete acceptance of a muscular woman in less than a decade?"
He finalized by saying that he hoped he lived long enough to see enough change that would open more doors for women and their desire to challenge their physicality.
The reality of the muscular woman is moving, albeit sometimes, seemingly, at the speed of the continental drift. But it's moving just the same. I can wait. Arm yourself with patience. LOL

Even thought I think she's gorgeous, you can absolutely tell that Nicole has way more muscle than your average slender/in shape woman. Which is why I think it's absurd that people say her/bikini competitors don't work hard. You know, I agree completely.
