How many times can you get knocked down and keep coming back for more? I don't have my answer to that because the story isn't over yet.

Two years running, I got knocked out of training and competing by injuries (broken bones). This is my third attempt.

Health issues and broken bones healed, I have a plan.

The venue is the 2010 Atlantic coast classic in Merritt Island Florida.

I started this trip on March 05 at 251lbs. Currently I am 225 lbs. and training hard.

I have had two MRI's last week for a shoulder injury. One showing no damage to the upper bicep/tricep/shoulder tie in. The second I feared would show a rotator cuff tear, but instead shows two small (but painful) tears at the joint.

After two years of taking half the year off for broken a foot, I thought for sure, I was done again but not a chance in hell. It ain't over until I SAY IT'S OVER....Im not done yet folks.....

So here is the long 132 day detail to the contest......

Leg day today....

15 minute warm up on the treadmill....level 6 at 3.5mph

Just coming off my second foot break so I haven't worked legs in over 4 months)

Squats
3 warm up sets, 135x10, 185x10, 205x 6, 205x6
Leg press
180x10, 360x10, 360x8, 360x6
SLDL
115x10, 135x10, 185x8, 185x6
Leg curls
50x10,60x8, 60x6

I felt strong and good during this first leg workout. A couple times I got the pit of the stomach feeling. Ah how I've missed that.

food was not great today

16oz coffee x 2
1. 1/4 gallon Chain'd out during leg workout (totally filled me up)
2. 3 omega eggs & 3 egg whites
3. 2 piece thin plain cheese pizza (* see meat note below)
4. 6 oz lean hamburger patty w 1 slice chz
Hamburger bun
1 cup broccoli

Had 3 diet cokes today that filled my gut. That will have to cut back immediately because I was NOT hungry today at all.

*We ran out of meat. How does a bodybuilder run out of meat? Poor planning is how.

Fully stocked up today. Grocery bill was $241 and about $150 was meat, eggs, fruits, and veggies for me. I already know tomorrow is chicken/shrimp/beef kabobs for fathers day....yummy!

That is the problem dear...I cannot stand Tuna from a can. Makes me gag. Only good fresh seafood I can eat. I love sushi and would eat it everyday if I could. But Tuna....i cannot do.

Not a fan of canned tuna but I do ok with tuna packets
and I love tilapia.... Love eggs too
not loving the veggies days I have to do 2 days a week but I am losing weight so I will keep with it...plus I need to kick Mike's butt:p

I can't eat tuna either, D....my mercury level is high. I just do a lot of protein shakes, cottage cheese, eggs and chicken

I stocked up on chicken, steak, and eggs today Mike. I am a little burnt out on cottage cheese so I am taking a couple weeks off from it. I have a bag of O.N. whey at work and one on my fride here at home and a bag of dried egg whites too.

Today's food:

1. Coffee
Whey protein

2. 3 eggs scrambled
2 oz sausage
2 oz cheese
2 pc wheat bread

3. Whey protein

4. 1 beef kabob w/ peppers and tomato
1 shrimp kabob w/ peppers and tomato
2 small ears corn

I should be at 5 meals starting tomorrow and trying to work up to 6 with no more than 2 shakes.

Food today was decent except breakfast. Somebody handed me a friggin muffin in a meeting and I just was talking and talking and the next thing I knew I had eaten almost the whole damn thing! I was so pissed at myself!

Meal 1 - Banana nut muffin (DAMNIT)
Meal 2 - 3oz chicken 1/4 cup peppers 1 diet coke
Meal 3 - String cheese
Meal 4 - 3oz steak 1/4 cup peppers
Meal 5 - Nectarine
Meal 6 - 6oz chicken 2 cups asparagus
1/2 gallon water

Bad storms up by me last night kept me up until almost 1am. I still managed to make the gym although a bit late.

Still workin up to norm in chest from the injured shoulder but it's looking stronger.

Warm up with 3 sets barbell bench x 25 reps
Hammer iso wide chest
90/10 140/10 160/10 180/9 180/8
Db incline
35/10 40/9 45/9 45/8

20 min cardio

I think by next week I can add the third excercise but we will see.
Getting in late messed up cardio but I still got 20 in

Meals were pretty good today. I was given high protein cereal by a trainer at my gym. I'm not sure I like this but I am trying it a few days.

Meal 1 - High protein cereal (I don't care for this much)
Meal 2 - 2 String cheese
Meal 3 - 3 oz chicken 1/4 peppers
Meal 4 - 3 oz steak 1/4 peppers
Meal 5 - nectarine

Decent back work. I have upper width ok, I need to work on thickness. I suck at deads (weight wise) because they are at the end of the workout. I found if I put them first, I sucked at everything else and can barely walk. As long as my lower back feels the pump and gets sore, I'm ok with that for now.

Definitely seeing physical changes. Shoulders and traps are defining themselvs from bi/tri. I actually have a bicep veign coming out. I can see a delineation between the lats and intercostals, although there is still too much fat to see the intercostals themselves. Small cuts are visible on my chicken legs even. Good stuff

I'm not sure what type of cereal it is, other than he said it was some high protein stuff. I have seen it on the bodybuilding.com site a few times. I will try to remember to ask him. It is not very tastey.

3 plates on the t-bar....For a long time I didn't have much to work out with so I only did bent rows and t-bars for back. I can't deadlift worth a damn (225 is my max I think)...so if that is all you can do for a long time, you get decent (not good) at it. I really focused on back and shoulders because I was so fat. I wanted wide shoulders and a big back to make me look bigger instead of fat. Eventually I learned...HEY....Just lose the fat dummy!! And now I look even bigger than I did when I was 70 pounds heavier

The salad from Panera was way bad compared to what I thought it might be.
I'm still seeing changes so I am "ALMOST" satisfied with the progress. I was told twice today I am looking big and fit. That was good to hear for sure.

A buddy at work left me a movie to watch and saw my vitamin case on the desk. He made a comment that he snagged some of my little pills that are making me not fit through the door anymore.....I thought that was funny.

The shoulder is still a bit tender so I was not able to press anything overhead. I tried...but stopped that pretty quick.

Bent over lateral raises
20/12, 25/10, 30/10, 35/6/2, 35/5

Seated db press
35/10, 40/4....pain hit...so I stopped

Upright rows
40/10, 60/10, 80/9, 80/8

Db Shrugs
90/10, 80/9, 70/5 I tried to run the rack but died right there!

Worked shoulders this morning. Great workout. I am seeing daily changes now and loving it. I had veins popping in the shoulders this morning and that has never happened before.

I will post the workout tonight but it was good volume and decent weights. I am careful with the shoulder still. I tried Barbell press but 3rd set at 95 I had to rack it because the pain started back. But so far, that and incline bench is all that hurts it.....so far.

I have been lowering my carbs every week but as I just started to log my food realized, I AM WAY OFF. So, as of yesterday I got an app for my Iphone and the food goes in a journal (with my workout stuff) and then in the phone which gives me back a report.

Thats good info Axioma. I have not had issues until I hurt it recently. It has not healed completely and I tried Db presses but not Hammer. I will give them a try next.

LOL....Yes...Pill food is to help the crazy drugs, I mean blood pressure and other crap that I have to take stay down. I tried with fruit, juice, protein shake....only the toast seems to keep them from making me hurl. I sure hope I don't have to go to zero carb anytime soon.

Not too bad of a day
1100 calories
50g Fat
41g carbs
129g Protein

As I noted previously, my numbers were way off so I am trying to get them in line. I will be adding in protein shakes late night next week for another 25-50 grams. My goal is to get up to 200g per day without shakes if possible, and that will bring my calories up a little too.

I hope everyone had a fun and safe 4th of July. I had a buddy ride his motorcycle 440 miles to hang with me for the weekend. We had a blast going to a street festival in Chicago, and closing 2 bars and staying up and out all night two nights in a row. Man i am too old for that crap.

But while we were in the city, I did something I have never done. I have always been too fat to do this but I took my shirt off and walked around for 2 hours without a shirt. That is a major deal for me.

Afterwards, I had an improptu posing session in the parking lot so my bud could snap some shots of me to see my progress. I will post them shortly. I was really surprised!

I rode mine 140 miles today, the longest trip I ever have taken one way on a bike. My f'n back is tired as hell. But mine isn't a full dresser suited to the highway.

The shoulder is still getting better by the week. I could barely press even with the machine last week so this workout is even better. Not good yet but better.

ISO Decline press
90/15, 90/15, 180/12, 230/9, 230/9

ISO Incline press (I had slight shoulder pain with this one though, so I kept the weight low
90/12, 140/10, 140/10, 140/9

Peckdeck
60/12, 70/9, 80/9, 80/7

25 minutes on treadmill incline 5 at 3.3 mph

I had a good sweat going because I moved fairly quick through the weights to keep my heart rate up since I knew I would not be moving any big weights.

The workouts are going ok and I have added another night of bowling. So I am league bowling 2 nights a week plus throwing another 25-40 practice games per week. For those that don't think bowling can be a cardio workout, go throw 6 games without stopping! you will be sweating and huffing.

Thanks G. I do feel better. It was friggin AWESOME to feel comfortable enough to walk around downtown Chicago with a shirt off. I haven't done that in public in probably 20 years.

I even had a guy walk by me and try to flair his lats out. Unfortunately, I hate to admit it....but I laughed at him because he had no lats! But the point was, my entire group saw it and commented how great I looked compared to being there with the same group last year.

I catch myself in the mirror sometimes and think DAMN!!

Nice work...stretch that shit out all day. Mine gets tight occasionally from deads or rack pulls and I just have to make sure and keep it loose throughout the day.

I usually just do those stretches to the side and pop my lower back a few times a day. That seems to help. Then if it's really tight still, when I get home I do some stretches and exercises I had to do for PT when I injured my back.

I can see some small changes this week. Things like vein in the lower left bicep, some splits visible between tri/bi's and better looking traps. My legs seem to have lost even more shape....I didn't even think they had enough shape to lose any to begin with but apparently so.

Also, the shorts you're wearing in this week pics are elastic and can give the illusion of thicker waistline. IMO, take pics for progress in similar clothing, if not the same clothing, and at the exact same time of day.

In between shoulder sets, I posed for 15 seconds 2 different poses. Holy crap that takes a lot out of you.

Starting to see consistent change. Shoulders and traps seperating. Veins in the front shoulder. Bicep/Tricep starting to show some definition with the left bicep showing a majority of the time.

Diet is on point until sweet tooth night time. I have to combat that. Last night I combatted it with a sugar free banana popsicle but I'm not sure that can hold me off.

I do not have anyone doing my diet for me so yes and no. I did well with them once a week with Palumbo but the zero carb diet didn't work well enough. So yes, I can have cheats but they are coming more than once a week right now which is bad!! I didn't have an issue with food last time, it was training. Now I have training under control and cannot control the food.

I upped the cardio as of yesterday from 30 to 30x2. One in the morning at 330am and one at night except Tuesday and Thursday. I am dropping fat and gaining muscle just not dropping in the gut

There is a definite difference in the way I look. My shoulders and arms are showing seperations I havent seen...ever. Legs are smaller than ever looking but actually up a 1/4 inch and showing some lines. Upper back is getting there as well. I am definitely bigger by tape, for sure. I will post those numbers tomorrow for comparison but my gut is only down 1/8 inch......it will come

Getting up at 3:30 am to do anything blows man. When I did my big cut in 09, I was up at 3:30 or 3:45 every morning to eat and go to the gym for weights and cardio, then work all day and go back for more cardio after work, then eat, shower, prep meals, sleep 6 hours, and repeat. The end product is worth it though.

I see some good progress there. Nice job getting those shoulders to grow! Once your waist starts coming down quicker, you're going to have a good taper w/ shoulders 52" or more.

Thanks Rich. I am down another pound this week. I am trying to make it 2 by Sunday weigh-in. And, the best part is the gut is starting to come down now with 2 a day cardio and cutting back on the carbs and really making sure I records everything I eat to the ounce now. No rounding or guessing

Started today with Treadmill work for 30 minutes.
I jogged at 3 minute intervals to get my heart rate up. Then walked incline 5.5 at 3.3 mph. My heart rate stayed around 125-130 the entire time.

I still cannot seem to bench without shoulder pain for I am using Hammer equipment.

thanks. I literally have been too heavy to jog for about 10 years so that was a huge accomplishment for me. I was all excited about it.

I love the Hammer equipment. It seems to fit me for some reason. And doesnt reinjure the shoulder. Only the Incline Hammer hurts for some reason so I just don't do it.

I couldn't run because I was too fat and out of shape. I know as bodybuilders, we don't really want to run for cardio but I really want to burn up so fat so heart rate had to stay up.

You might be right about the angles because it hurts like hell when I try them on a regular bench, and they no longer hurt any other time.

So, I accidentally discovered my snooze button today. I turned my alarm off at 345am. Then at 355am, then 410am....I really did not know where the snooze was. I kept turning it off and thinking it was time to get up.....WTH?!

Needless to say I was mega late for the gym.

20 minutes on treadmill, incline 5 @ 3.50mph
I decided i wanted to work legs twice a week and have not been able to fit it in, so i decided today was a good day to get some blood flowing in there. I ended up with a spotter on hacks and went beyond failure. Stuck in the hole on my 3rd set (lost the spotter)

So it may not look like much, but for whatever reason my quads were fried from just this!

Hack squats
sled only/15, 70/12, 90/10, 140/10, 180/12, 230/8/7/5(stuck in the hole)
Barbell lunges
Bar only/10/10/10/8/4(couldn't get back up)

I'm not sure why my legs were spent but for whatever reason, they were.

I will keep that in mind. It has been obvious that I am struggling with energy as I want a nap during the day, get home change my clothes and pass out for 30 minutes on my bed until the wife gets home.....and then i can barely make it to bed time. It will just take some time to get use to the lower calories.....and maybe some pharmaceuticals....

I hate when Idon't wake up for 330am cardio and have to do it at the gym. That means a shortened weight work out. Only dropped one excercise so not terrible.

Food has been on point all last week and all weekend. Knowing I am always hungry, and the family gone all weekend, i thought for sure I would inhale everything in sight but that was not the case.

I have this little voice in my head of my best friend telling me "If you are going through all of this, working out so hard, and taking all of this stuff, you cannot go easy on the diet just because you think you can get away with it. You need to focus because if you cheat it, I'm going to be pissed!" She was right.....All this work and if I half-ass it.....not only will she be disappointed in me, but I will be disappointed in me.

Food yesterday was decent. Protein still needs to come up though. I think I might have a better handle now:

Calories 1883
Fat 85
Carbs 110
Protein 130

I added some almonds yesterday. About 2 ounces. That drove my fat intake up almost 30 grams. Probably not the best idea but I was starving!!

Cardio done this morning was 35 min on treadmill at inclie of 5 at 3.50 mph

I am hitting legs twice per week. Wednesday and Saturday. Wednesday I am hitting quads only though.

Smith machine squats
Bar/20, 90/10, 180/10, 180/10, 180/10 (Rest/Pause), 180/8 (Rest/Pause)
Leg press
270/10, 360/10, 360/10, 360/8
