Now that it's a day after St. Patrick's Day, it's probably a good a day, as any, to discuss your favorite alcohol hangover cures.

Here's one suggestion:
1. Consume additional water before going to bed to combat dehydration.
2. The morning after, some orange juice or orange juice plus a banana (good potassium source) would help increase the glucose content and potassium content that is probably low during an alcohol related hangover.
3. If you can tolerate aspirin, that would be a better headache remedy than Tylenol (acetaminophen) because even in normal doses, acetaminophen can cause (usually reversible) liver damage, especially when used in association with alcohol.

Milk thistle

Alka seltzer & gatorade

Know your limit and resist the urge to binge so you don't get a hangover.

drink a glass of water between every beer.
works every time.

another one is to front load your drinking early in the evening, then switch to water or soft drinks, you end up sleeping through the worst of your hangover

Here's a crazy idea: dont drink too much.

#2) drink Propel the night before and in the morning. Take aspirin. Preferably powdered upon awakening. Powdered asprin, or chewable has a pretty immediate onset.

I sometimes mix my booze with gatoraid.
Most of the time I can't cure it though it's there and the only thing that helps is sleep.

Before bed I would wash down a big glass of water with 2 Tylenol and 1000mg of Vitamin C. Never had any liver issues with the Tylenol.

Amino Acids or another protein source before bed and again upon waking. If that does'nt work then i take the traditional route of a greasy hamburger, french fries, and Coke from McDonalds.

Alcohol inhibits the antidiuretic hormone, so more pissing and more dehydration. Simple solution is hydrate when drinking.

What you said is so important. Hydration is very important to help cure a hang over.

As an addiction doc, I would be remiss not to add:
If continued hang overs occur time and time again over at least a year's period of time and leads to multiple adverse consequences in that year, you may have an alcohol concern that you can address with a health care provider.

There is no possibility I would be able to understand the complexities of making a protein shake when drunk. I don't drink often but if I am I usually have water during the night and ask for a pint of water before leaving the bar, always works for me.

Drink a ton of water, tums, and motrin always works for me :) Water's the key! That horrible eye closing head ache is usually just dehydration.

After your night out try have a decent size meal and drink 1.5 - 1.75 litres of water.

Upon waking drink a bottle of lucozade, a protein shake and eat a bannana or two. Give it 45 minutes and you'll start to feel a bit better, fact!:D

A Full Irish breakfast is also good if you can eat it.

hmm, 3 advil, a fat greasy burger and gaterade works for me, its been a while though. I do notice that if you take liver cleansers on a regular basis you are much less likely to get a hangover, oh and the number 1 rule dont mix your alohaul with anything with lots of sugar
