OK. This forum is for us Masters that work our asses off in the gym, some of us compete, some do not. It doesn't matter. Some of us are as short as five foot 3 and as tall as six foot four. So I know measurements don't really matter except as an interesting conversation. It doesn't matter whether your in offseason or getting ready for a show just note that when you are giving them to us.

Guys give real true measurements. Not inflated ones.

Kevin Couch (6 weeks out of Nats before I got hurt)
Date: 9/7/10
Height 5 foot 5
Bodyweight 177
Upper Arms: 18 3/8 (cold)

Now: 10/1/10
Bodyweight 187
Upper Arms: 18 5/8
Chest 47 1/2
Waist 30
Upper Thigh 25 (atrophied a bit because of not working them)
Calf 16 3/4

Come on Guys and Gals Let's See Them!

Now that`s a tough stat to beat.
All bullshit aside
I`m 51 yrs old
5ft 11in tall
225 lbs
ARMS I`m measuring them now sitting at my desk
17 in. maybe a little over
all other measurements seem to be equally unimpresive

Kevin Read post 3. I was kidding. I am grateful you made this thread. This gives us a idea where we stand and helps with our goals. Your honesty is golden as the pro's inflate thier numbers if they give any at all. If you delete this thread, I will have to neg you.:) (not really)

Man..You had me going! That's what this thread was meant to be so we could talk about our goals and what certain bodyparts we need to bring up. I know that when standing on stage the judges could give a rats ass what your measurements but it is a stat that allows you to see if you are growing in the right areas...

You really had me going. I"ll get you back, I promise!

Yes...arms and chest flexed. But not pumped measurements.
Nuf about me...You gonna share yours now?

This Thread wasn't meant to be about my measurements only guys.....Feel free to share. I know measurements can be deceiving for instance
I need to bring up my chest even though with a 47 1/2 inch chest at my height you'd think it should be ok...Most of the chest measurements comes
from your back width...

What you see in the mirros IS the MOST important thing MacTech.
I just take measurements about once per month to see where I've gained
and where I haven't.

Don't know about the genetic freak and all but I'll tell you at 44 years old, I'm really feeling the aches and pains of training since I was 13 years old.
Besides my latest back injury my osteoarthritis in my knees light me up when I work legs. Good. I'm 10 years older than you. First time I was glad to be older! About the aches and pains. At 54 my new goal every session is to be able to walk out of the door unassisted. I trained for 27 years before I had my first serious injury and my second came 3 years later. I have facet joint arthritis and the first 2 hours in the morning are always an adventure. My wife has put my shoes/socks on for me more than once. Every joint in my body is stiff and achy all of the time. It literally hurts to be me. Now, recently, the gh I'm taking is giving me horrendous carpal tunnel. I wake up in serious pain every 90 minutes. I have to get up and move around to ease the pain/numbness. I still have 27 inch quads and I still train them as hard as my connective tissue will allow and all in all I still love it!

You know, this will be the first time I have measured in years, other than my biceps. I find that I am alot smaller than I thought when compared to you guys, I mean Kevin is 20-30lbs lighter and his arms are the same size! Really comes down to the smoke and mirrors, as long as you look big.

I will measure this coming weekend, end of current routine and the start of my bulk cycle, so it will be me at my smallest. Current weight: 217

So you find yourself smaller, and I am 50lbs lighter than you! It must be my small waistline that keeps my weight down. Not quite ripped but now sporting a 6 pack and lots of separation.

Kevin's arms are f'n insane for his size. I think it's his best body part. I am still trying to figure out how they grew so fast overnight.

Hell, rick's pogo sticks are bigger than mine!

I doubt that. Your legs look twice his size based on his last competition photos. Bigger does not always mean better.

Ax,
You got some serious feedback on your comment. You have a the size and symmetry my friend!! You are a legitimate heavyweight and you're going to prove it
in July. Doesn't mean you don't need to buckle down...we ALL do to get ready for the Big Show in Pittsburgh. That's what it's all about!!!

hahahah...how did you know? Thanks for the feedback, not trying for pity here...just always need to keep pushing, never satisfied, we all can relate to that. However, there is always going to be that freak, no matter how hard you train, sacrifice and suffer, always that sonofabitch who has it all...thus the nature of competition.

Also live in an area that is completely in the dark regarding bodybuilding. Really contemplating moving to another city, or better yet, to my wife's home country of Honduras.

I appreciate the votes of confidence...I know I am pushing harder right now that I have in any sport (football, triathlons, powerlifting or martial arts) in my life. As Rick says, if you ain't living on the edge, you are taking up too much space....I am pushing the edge EVERY workout, as we all are.

Means a great deal to have a forum where we recognize the pain and sacrifice of our peers.

Just giving myself some tough love. If I don't tell myself every day that I am puny and weak, then I might let up. That is why I am training with Big Country, the cornfed freak. I must push harder so that I WILL be noticed, if not by the judges, then by the crowd.
I have always been an intense trainer, but I have taken it to the extreme...I will grow or I will break...Jeez, no more hijacking...I will take this shit to my thread and quit cluttering...gotta go eat some cowpatties or something.

Come on, Ax...you saw me at the MN's! The fact that I was a foot taller than you didn't stick out? LOL!

And my legs look skinny even at 28" because they're four fucking feet long!

You know, I get shit only on this board about my legs, as if I don't train them hard enough or I don't know what I'm doing. For the record, and for the last time, I returned to bbing at 47 years old after a 14 year complete layoff....NO training during that time. When I started back I discovered, painfully, that I had acquired arthritis in both knees. The pain was excruciating when doing leg work. I could not squat. It took 3 years to get to 1000lbs on leg press. I tore my fucking quad tendons off both knees trying to get deep and heavy on leg press to build these unhealthy wheels up.

Now, for the naysayers who infer that since my legs are weak that I don't know shit, I'll put my upper body up against any of you wannabe mofo's any day, anytime. I'm usually a pretty easy going guy who talks straight, but I've had my fill of this leg bullshit.

Easy big fella. I don't think anyone is questioning the veracity of your knowledge and/or advice. Look how many hits and views your AAS thread has. I don't agree with everything you say, but you definately know your shit. Just looking at where you have taken your wife speaks volumes.

As far as upper body kicking "our" asses, your chest is incredible and your shoulders are excellent.
Your back..well, since we are talking straight, lacks width, in spite of incredible thickness.
And your arms are really not big enough for the size of your torso.
But hey, I suffer opposite, yet as compelling frailties...just calling it like I see it, as you do without equivocation.

I got into bodybuilding at age 42, garnered a state masters title and top 10 at masters nationals in only 2 1/2 years of training. I have put on 30lbs. of sustainable muscle in that time. While Xiomara isn't quite up to the level of Gunz, I did train her to a Open State Championship her first show and a third in her weight class at Master Nationals in her second. But hey, I'm just a wannabe mofo?

Not trying to get into a pissing contest here...guess some tension still floating about from the HDG thread...no big deal and Water under the bridge.

'nuff said by me regarding the legs...just joking, however understandable you ain't in a joking mood..you ARE a knowledgable, thick ass, strong, bow-legged old gottabe mofo! oh, damn, I mentioned the legs....lol

It seems that even Master body builders are some competitive S.O.B.'s. Actually, for the amount of incredibly hard work, pain, suffering and self sacrifice body builders have to endure to be in the hunt it's a bit surprising we're sociable at all. I'll be the first to admit that losing SUCKS. I don't do all the contest prep, starve and inject myself with potentially harmful substances to make the top 10 or 5 or even 2. If I don't win it's a fail for me. Still.

I don't think you have to any of those things to be competitive. I don't believe in starving, contradicts the whole term bodybuilding. However, the last week might be uncomfortable, but that is it.

As far as harmful is defined, you can use amounts of AAS that have been established as being non harmful by virtue of, if nothing else, having been used by tens of thousands of bodybuilders for 40+ years now. You can easily attain tremendous gains on dosages that are "hyper" therapeutic, which still keep you within, or slightly above the high end of normal. Don't use that as an excuse. If you choose to do it OTC (which may be worse), then more power to you, just hate to think you were "this close" and you worried about a pretty small issue in the grand scheme of things.

No, eating cornbread, grits, pork chops, pecan pie, cheesecake....you name it. You know...if I was at Bev's Gym...I would ACTUALLY weigh 265! God, it is so funny listening to Dave P on all the vids saying that....he is benching 405, but in Bev's universe...actually 600! Wow! Maybe it is an accumulation of boogers over the years or something....just kidding.

I know I will drop 5-8lbs really fast, lots of water. However, I think 235 was my real gain, so I will fight to maintain.

If I do well, I hope that potential clients will recognize that I do not have a guru telling me what to do eat, what to inject. I have to establish myself, not promote a guru. I think if I get on stage between 210 and 215, a 12lb+ muscle gain in a year at 46 will be pretty impressive. Gotta make it happen.

Muscle Mayhem in KC on May 14th, our State Show in the Middle of Aug and not sure if I'll do Red River in OK or go up and do a new show Chad Nicholls is doing in Saint Louis, both are in Oct.

I'll do the Masters 50+ in all the shows plus the open MW in AR State.

If I do well this year, I may see you guys in Pittsburgh in 2012.

Bodyweight 187, 195 1/2, 198

Waist 30, 30 3/4, 31
Upper Thigh 25, 26, 26 1/4
Calf 16 3/4, 17, 17 1/8

Well I accomplished what I set out to do with my leg size now would be the time I would be planning out my precontest phases. At 198 I still have clear abs, quad seperation and glutes (not completely striated) but they're there. We'll see after my Mom's Mother to Son talk with me I may still try and do the Nationals in the fall. We'll see how things go over the next few months.
