View Full Version : What's In Your Gym Bag?

I'm shamelessly stealing this from Will Brink, who did a video on this topic a few months ago. Let's share what we consider to be essential stuff for our training; stuff that's either in our gym bag or that we use on a regular basis.

I'll start:

IPOD, loaded with classic rock, heavy metal, alternative, etc.

Bose earbuds -- delivers great sound quality

Tommy Kono Knee Bands -- these really help my problematic knees

Risto Squat Shoes -- for back squats, front squats, split squats, leg presses

Workout Journal-- yeah, I'm one of those obsessive geeks who logs his workouts. But the name of the game is PROGRESSIVE resistance; how do you know what to progress to if you don't recall your prior performance? Besides, if it was good enough for Zane,, it's good enough for me.

Beverly Uplift -- I don't like stimulants; I don't even drink coffee. Uplift is a stimulant-free pre-workout mix. Gives a subtle boost.

Tricep rope and Pulley D-handles, since the gym's are often in use.

Forearm band -- for when my lateral epicondylitis flares up.

Weightlifting belt -- I still own the first belt I ever bought, back in the 1970s. I use it only for overhead pressing or standing curl or tricep movements.

Not in my gym bag, but still part of my regimen:

Foam Roller -- works out the kinks

The Rotater -- just bought this to assist with my rotator cuff issues:

http://therotater.com/wp/

Okay, folks -- what's in YOUR gym bag?

haha, i have to get a new bag about once a year because the handles or strap break.

luckily I own my own warehouse gym so i just toss it in the floor and start pulling shit out, and leave it there the whole workout. If I trained at a commercial gym i wouldnt take half that stuff with me.

Honestly I just use the notepad. I have a couple fitness / exercise apps but for some reason always went to the notepad app that comes with the phone.

The two apps I have are "BodyFitness" and "Fitness Pro"

I'm amazed at the posters on this thread that I have never seen in the masters zone before...just a matter of asking the right questions, lol.

My bag: ( I use a swiss army carry on bag, hold a lot, sturdy and is half the size of my last bag)
atp wrists wraps
atp convict knee wraps
tommy kona neoprene elbow sleeves
atp comp elbow sleeves
rehbanb knee sleeves
schiek light lifting belt
bob's belts custom 13mm belt
ipod w/skull candy buds (trading up for wireless, tired of jerking the freakin things out of my ears)
atp custom lifting straps w/ AXI (right strap) OMA (left strap)
gloves (coming out, don't use them anymore, clients just have to accept I have callouses, most female clients say they don't mind it, so...)
water bottle
shaker bottle w/After Glow for post w/out
inhaler
journal (coming out as I post here)
Chuck Taylors ( I love these things, they always smell like new rubber)

Yep NotePad, that's what I use too.

The apps I have seen all show HOW to do an exercise with some input to reps and weight, but they all lack being easy to use. Haven't tried Fitness Pro.

I want to log them in the iPod and have easily selectable weights, like the last time you did an exercise, the previous weight and reps are entered for you, and a quick click to change reps or weight. I want easy viewing of previous workouts, calculating total sets, reps and volume and then graph it over a selected date range.

Being a nerd programmer I should apply it to this purpose but learning how to program an iPod/iPhone is like Chinese to me compared to what I am used to.

Suave_Howss
12-02-2010, 03:06 PM
Yeah I think Fitness Pro is somewhat like what you described but its not that user friendly. The interface could use some work, but then again the app is free.

No bag, but this is what comes into the gym with me:

All the time:
-car keys with membership card attached to key ring. If I didn't have 'em, I'd be locked out of my car LOL
-water bottle (necessary so I'm not constantly traipsing over to H2O fountain)
-Log Book (or at least a note card to write w/o down) (I can't remember what weights I lifted after I leave)
-Pen (to write in log book)

Sometimes:
-Gloves (for back day but I don't always wear 'em). Just bought a new pair of Valeo "Ocelot" gloves. On sale! Yeah!
-Belt. Use it sometimes for D/L or squats.
-Book to read between sets. Just tried this today. Not sure what to think of the idea. Sorta beats staring at the wall or watching people w/o.
-Reading glasses (necessary to read the book with LOL - this IS the Masters' section...)

Maybe but not now:
-Shaker cup w/protein
-Change of clothes (that would need an actual bag)

The times that I did carry a bag, usually when riding my motorcycle, I always put it on the floor anyways. No one ever said otherwise. If they did, I guess I would move it.

I like to keep my Belt, liquid chalk, chalk bag, CoC grippers, couple tubs of powerchews (bcaa's and glutamine), wrist roller, and a pair of vibrams. Pretty much everything I need and it fits in a small duffle easily- lifting gear and intra-workout sups.
