I can't wait to compete tomorrow. This is by far the heaviest show I have done and ZI love this sport more and more every day. Plus the fact that on last minute decision, my girlfriend Nicholle Rothengas decided to compete after only messing around twice with me doing events. Nicholle has spent the last year and a half training and competing in female figure short class shows.

My son, dustin, did a strength demo. He is 11yrs old. He did deadlift with 110lbs, 120lbs, 160lbs. Then he did farmers walk with 120lbs. He ran faster than I could click off a picture. Travis Ortmayer was cheering him on the entire time. I got plenty of pictures of him with travis ortmayer, josh thigpen, and ryan bracewell. I can't get the pictures to show up.

ryan,
When dustin got home, he called grandpa and told him you invited him to come work out at the unit. He has a permanent smile on his face. Thanks for being so nice to him. It was like christmas for him. We will definitely be coming out to the unit. He said he wants to learn all ya'lls secrets. He especially wants to load that 600lbs stone.

I think it was about 80 today.....
Houston we get 1 day of cold (high of 50) mixed in with 6 days of heat for the winter...Christmas usually means you're running around outside in shorts and a t shirt. Sounds great in theory, but seasons are nice...a little variety never hurt anyone.

Nicholle and I had a great time in Houston and plan to come back in Feb for another show. This was by far the hardest and heaviest show I have competed in to date. The heavyweight competitors were also the best I have had the chance to compete against. Special thanks to the Texas Stone Man, Ryan Bracewell, Ashely Writ and last but not least the guy who came in second Constable Brian Vickers. Vickers I had a lot of fun competing with you and it awesome that we have established a good system for pushing each other. Nicholle and I also met so many cool people out here it was definitely worth the trip.

Had a great time at the competition. Was pretty happy after thinking about the fact that I have only touched all the events 2 times prior to the show this past weekend. Rich has been great helping me with everything. Before this weekend, I had done axel press 2 times in gym, with my PR at 105. At the show, it wasn't pretty but I did the heaviest ever for me at 110#s. I was greatful to be invited to such an awesome show, and to have the pleasure of meeting everyone that I did meet at the show here in houston. Next time I come out will be here in Feb, and will bring it even more!!

I was told 120lb, which usually refers to the weight per hand. Given the weights on the handles, it could be 60 per hand. Either weight is impressive for an 11yo

wolverine565
12-06-2010, 05:45 PM
My bad. I meant 120lbs total. What 11yr old do you know that can run with 120lbs. He will actually walk when you give him 140lbs total. He is my future pro strongman. He has been training for 8 months. Zack has only started him on weight 4 months ago. The first 4 months was a body weight conditioning and stretching.

Fantastic that he had this experience! Very cool.

Excellent. I was 15 before I got my first weight set. My step dad pulled up, popped the trunk of his car and there was a 110-pound set that I couldn't even get out of the trunk! He picked it up with one hand.

Wishing your future pro strongman continued success, wolverine!

We didn't stay until the end of the contest. My sons coach told my son on monday that they gave him a sword as a prize. So my 11yr old has a samuria sword now. I am trying to convince him that it is a trophy and not a play toy. First thing he ask was," can i go outside and try it!" I really appreciate that they honored dustin, but I was hoping the weapons talk came later.
