I'm sure everyone has their own interesting story on how they got into strongman, but I'm looking for more the 'trigger' that actually got you going...
Example: Was it watching WSM, looking up to someone"s accomplishments like Kaz, or meeting a pro or am in your local gym?
How many of you actually attended a strongman contest PRIOR to competing....or was it more trial by fire?

I was sick of having gym strength, I wanted functional strength. Kind of a stupid story on what was a trigger for me but I was a sophomore in college and was out in the woods in the spring just monkeying around and I was taking the chainsaw and cutting up chunks of logs and then I would take them and see how high I could throw them. Well I couldn't throw them too high, like only a couple feet above my hands and was like damnit! And from then on, I wanted to do strongman. I had seen it on ESPN, but out in the woods that one day is what triggered it and I took a real interest in it.
Now I'm hooked on strongman and it has become my life. My life revolves around training

fat kid, comic books, saw first WSM (yes i am that old), concrete filled weights, football, Quads gym, Marine Corps, weights...then i stepped away...went back to lifting in my 30's, met a pro, talked his ear off about strongman, tried stones once and i was hooked (first stone i lifted was 300lbs), 7 years later still at it.

yeah I remember watching WSM when I was a kid watching guys like Superstar Billy Graham, Franco Colombo, Bruce Wilhem
I also remember going to the circus and seeing the strongman, bend bars, rip phone books, blow up water bottles, crush full cans.
which is the strongman stuff I do and am into the old style strongman stuff

I started to lift weights because I was a little bit chubby when I was little and I wanted girls to like me. Then I got hooked on how it made me feel to lift weights. I don't want to be "normal", so lifting weights keeps me from being normal.
I naturally carry around a decent amount of bodyfat and I hate dieting. So strongman was a natural progression.
