What do you wear for squats and deads? I have been lifting in plain old Converse Allstars. Is there any advantage to moving up to a commercial weightlifting shoe?

Thanks!

Chuck Taylors are good for squattin and pullin..They are sturdy and the flat sole allows u to activate ur hamstrings more.

There's only 1 shoe that's acceptable for squatting and deadlifting:

I be used em all cons, swat boots, max 360, shox, all of them. My current favorites are-
-Vibram five fingers( for squats)
- otomix stingray( for deads)
- Nike free 3.0(cardio/ basic gym shoe)

Adidas Iron works II for squats (best investment ever) and socks for deadlifting.

Are those weightlifting shoes? I wouldn't use them for powerlifting style low bar squats as they force the knees forward and inhibit your ability to sit back.

Don't know too many PLers that don't squat wide. Do they?

For olympic style squats they work great.

I was only talking about power squats.

I use asics for deads but I always squat barfoot. It seems to work good for me but I am very young so who knows if thats right or not. Try it and let me know.

i often squat barefoot myself. lack of arch support will cause the foot to flatten out over time if your foot is constantly under strain which seems to be the argument most often against bare foot squatting. ive been doing it for years and havent had any issues. i dont think it is a problem if the weight is being kept over the heels and your not squatting 5x per week.

I deadlift and squat on flat sole shoes such as my high chucks. But any other day, I lift in tennis shoes.
