View Full Version : Bill Phillips Ruined my life

After seeing BLP's post to shawn Ray I was inspired to write a letter to my
former idol. Bill phillips.
Dear Mr. Phillips,
I'm sure you probably don't remember me (see photo's). I competed in your first Body for Life challenge. Bill, I'm writing you this letter to finally get some closure after all these years.
You see Bill, you were my idol and all I ever wanted to be was an EAS spokesperson. You convinced me that even a lazy, fat fuck like me had a shot at winning. I gave my heart and soul to that contest for 90 days.
I did just what you told me. I visualized myself driving that Lambo down South beach pulling hot bitches. I chanted my mantra's. I lived, ate and breathed EAS.
So what did I get for all my efforts? Well, certainly not the Lamborghini or the spokesperson contract. I didn't even get the free T-shirt you promised me. Oh sure, you offered to sell me one of those bad ass leather EAS bomber jackets.
But after you finger fucked my wallet for all those supplements I had to buy, how could I afford it.
All I got for my efforts was a massive credit card bill. And who knows what long- term effects taking all that shit will have on my health. To this day every time I pass gas, I swear it smells like Phosphagen.
I just want to know why Bill? why didn't I place top ten? Did you not think I was natural? Was it the bad hair piece in the after photo? All these years I keep asking myself Why?
In closing, I just want you to know Bill, I was much happier fat, hairy and pale with a little cash in my pocket.

Bill Phillips changed my life. Body For Life taught me the basics principles of good nutrition and working out. I didn't win an EAS contract but the prize I did receive was the gift of a healthy body and lifestyle. I wouldn't change that for all the leather EAS jackets in the world.

Good read and great transformation. We have to give credit to Bill and EAS for initiating the onslaught of transformation challenges. Very innovative. I had a flurry of business as a trainer back in 97-98 for people who wanted to train for that "contest." I believe the average "competitor" was spending $500 a month on supps.

" I believe the average "competitor" was spending $500 a month on supps.
50,000 competitors + $500 PM + 3 months = fucking genius
If that's the body he got from Bill's training, nutrition, and supplement protocols, then I would think most would be happy with it. I don't think he said he's turn someone into Mr. Olympia. And he could very well compete in the new men's physique division with that look.

Exactly, thats supposed to be the reward which is more important then anything he mentioned. I dont get what he is upset about:dunno:lol You wanted to get in shape and you did. You were happier fat? You didnt make this a lifestyle which is about setting personal goals, enjoying the challanges/changes ,being healthy and looking/feeling great. Theres no better reward then that!

Bill was very smart at making money.
Maybe some of the older guys might remember about Bill in the 80's? He was a major supplier back in the day and heavily involved in US distribution of gear. According to some of his "partners" Bill had this great idea of upping the profits on gear sales. :yep: Get your own containers and label makers, add oil and tabs with no anabolic steroids in them, and sell them!! This was pretty much the start of the "BUNK GEAR" era. Remember there was no internet so there was no bad feedback, just word of mouth. All the guys that competed in the 80's and into the 90's probably remember all the bogus Dbol, anavar and other shit we had to sort through. In the 80's I got a doctor script for Test and Dbol which opened my eyes to real gear. Later on it is speculated that he realized he could use his skills to sell supplements........and the rest is history.

Life was much simpler before Bill Phillips transformed me in to a wana be bodybuilder. Ignorance was bliss.
I could eat whatever and whenever I wanted.
I didn’t have to waste valuable time working out.
I didn’t always need to see my abs.
I could walk by a mirror without flexing.
I didn’t always need to be tan.
I didn’t have to routinely shave my ape like body.
I wasn’t always broke from spending all my money on supplements.
These are just a few of the nuisances I now have deal with on a daily basis.
Thanks a lot Bill.
Thread of the month material.

:yep: x2
I read the book and that is when i went to 6 meals, using protein powder or mrps, creatine (never spent close to $500/month)
I wouldn't change what i learned or gained from reading that for anything
I will take the constant dedication to eating and training over being a fatass any day
Dre23
01-25-2011, 02:34 PM
I'm not saying that we don't need more protein than avg. person, but I doubt Bill really cared about anyone else health/transformation. It seems (and I may be wrong) that a lot of talk of eating 5-6 times/day came along circa Bill when he was trying to get you to eat 2-3 of his shakes/day.
He was a marketing genius.

I'm with you 100%. Bill jump started me and made me believe I could change and you know what, I did! Did he make a lot of money in the process? Sure but I got my life back and now 10-12 years later I am still living a healthy lifestyle.
On another note, Bill is an absolute marketing genius and he tapped into a market segment that most supplement companies would kill for that revenue.

The "challenge" continues. I still have the VHS tape called Body for Life, which he sent for free to anyone who asked for it. The group being profiled for a contest finally voted not to have the contest, because not everyone could win it & it might hurt someone's self-esteem if he lost.
BTW, I think it's bullshit that someone blames Phillips or anyone else for not getting the results he wanted. You pay your money, make your choice, & hope for the best. But there are no guarantees. & if you're training for the wrong reason, that's your fault.

He's also contributed tens of millions of dollars to the make a wish foundation but just because he turned his back on hardcore bbing he's a douche?

BC, NICE LETTER !!! I LOVE IT ! This thread sat and got dusty for 11 months, and I had never seen it before. THANKS to whomever found it and posted to bring it back up to the top.
I love all the things you listed... Have to add....
I miss....
ONLY wanting to nail my wife ONCE a day.
Drinking beer and eating all kindsa rich food till my big toe hurt. (young guys won't get this.....).
Being able to eat pizza 3-4 times a week.
ALWAYS having a gallon of ice cream in the freezer ready to go. (my girls REALLY HATE that one.
The taste of two Dr. Peppers a day.
Always drinking soda, or something with 10 g of sugar in it so it tasted good.
Never having to drink water, much less a gallon a day.
Having the kitchen countertop clear except for the mail, and not having to work around the big protein and Waxy Maize tubs that take up so much room you can't set anything on the counter.
Having things in the kitchen that were color coordinated...not like the NOW Foods ORANGE, or the SPECIES GREEN !!! They don't match anything.
Having a doughnut for breakfast, and more often two.
Eating Mexican food at least twice a week.
Being able to taste my food due to the high salt, sugar, or butter content.
Not being OCD on reading Nutrition Labels on food.
Not having to wear my readers to the grocery store so I could read labels.
Not having to meet the guy on Sunday afternoon when he comes to town to buy a couple gallons of Raw Milk.
Eating Pop Tarts.
Eating Sugar cubes.
Constantly talking to people about how to incorporate worse tasting food into my diet.
Waking up without a boner all the time.
MacDonald's French Fries, double sized.
My life used to be so good.

Bill Phillips' facebook status today.. all that money buys some awesome drugs
"I'm sitting at my fitness center right now waiting for a leg press machine to be delivered... and I'm thinking... you know... to me it seems that reality is filtered, organized, individuated, and interpreted by each person's mind. Each mind has been shaped by the experiences, traumas, successes, setbacks, beliefs, discoveries, feelings and feedback it has received from its environments... along with a bit of genetic influence too. Therefore, it really does seem to be true that a human being doesn't actually see the world or reality as it is; we see the world, and the people in, as we are. Life 'out there' is a reflection of the inner self--a mirror of sorts, which allows us to see and know more of who and what we are. So how does the world, and the people in it, look to you today? Like what you see? Or does it make you angry? It is beautiful? Or ugly? Want to change what you see 'out there?' If so, I believe the way to do that is to start within... change yourself... and do it from the deepest places we can go into mind and heart. Of course, when we successfully make an inner change like that we immediately know it. How? Well the entire world changes in an instant... for me it was like the whole world was suddenly rich with vibrant and beautiful colors which were being enjoyed by kind, caring people... before...well before I would have to say it was more like muted black and white. So as it see it today, changing the world is quite literally and inside job. Anways, I hear a truck... I hope that's the leg press I've been waiting for!! =)"

With a name like Freak--it sure doesn't fit your whining post--I don't say that to be nasty but to be honest--man up guy--move on--you learned many things, good and bad--your sniping and complaining will get you no where except to make you a loser at life.

Hey Freak this is a follow-up to my other post about your whining about Phillips. And, this is to all you others who rip Bill too. Anyone of you perfect? The guy has given $5 million over the years to The Make A Wish Foundation and changed the lives for the better of thousands upon thousands of people. What have you people done with your miserable lives except b*tch about Bill and everything and everyone else. I thought weight training was supposed to make you a better person inside and out? You people are pathetic.

A check of their Profile page to see when the Last Activity took place would be a good indicator of whether or not they're still around on the forums.
