Canada is ripe with industrial work, and sitting right in the middle of it on an unassuming through road, in an unassuming building in the unassuming town of Port Coquitlam is World Gym PoCo, a testament to all that is good and holy in bodybuilding.

I spend my Tuesdays here, training legs with Dawn and IFBB Pro Carlos Rabiei, and nothing says "Shut up and dig deep" like being in this gym with those two looking on. Even without them (as will be the case with anyone else), one cannot help but get sucked into the sense of urgency in their lifting that the serenity of this place will inspire.

'Serenity, you say?' That does not exactly evoke feelings of malevolence and sadistic self torture in the gym, one might ask. By the textbook definition, and what we know as 'serenity', no, it does not. However, this is a no nonsense place. No frills. No fringes to speak of. No posers, getting in the way. Just you and the weight. It looks good. But do not for a second think that you cannot get down and dirty here. Not every place has to look like you need a tetanus shot before entering (not that there is anything wrong with that, because personally, I dig that look). But I have said it before, and I will say it again now... when a person goes into a gym, a person needs to lift. World Gym PoCo most certainly gives you that opportunity.

Fitted with equipment that is hardly ever seen these days... and even a custom made leg press that allows for a whopping 24 total plates... training is made easy (relatively speaking) here. There is so much to be able to choose from, and in such an abundance... hardly ever a wait for anything here. The cardio, aerobic, and stretch area are on the second floor, overlooking the main area, perfectly settled away from the throw down going on below. A full service juice bar is on hand, AND... in the event that you find yourself with your little one and have to train, there is child care available to you.

This is one of the only places I have seen so far that does not have, or necessarily need a certain hardcore atmosphere to drive it. That must be because of the working class area that it is in. Just driving into the area, pulling into the parking lot, and walking into the gym... it all screams, "Time to punch the clock, and go to work".
Time's a-wastin'. And World Gym PoCo is waiting for you.
